"Apart from a few niggly defects the holiday over the Christmas week was excellent."
The property had all we expected and required for the festive period. We brought to Sykes attention during our stay that it was impossible to remove the key from the front door after locking. The wifi had previously been reported as near to non existent, but we found that changing the lead for our phone charger the wifi worked satisfactorily.
Other Comments: The property could be enhanced by some over-due maintenance:
The door to the patio from the bedroom has a warped frame and cannot be secured by the secondary catch on the trailing edge of the door.
This leaves a considerable draft gap 5 -6 mm over at least half the height of the door, not good in windy and below freezing conditions.
We appreciate that the whole area was still suffering from the effects of storm Arwen but would have expected the leaves to have been cleared from the paths and bin area. Floor tiles in both bathrooms had cracks which is possibly a defect from construction.
The heating controls are very complicated for short term letting.

"We had a fabulous few days, and have already booked for next year."
Only recommendations , would be to have part of the verandah covered, so you can still sit out even if it's raining, install a pathway from the side gate around to the verandah and lastly, a hot tub would be a bonus. Would definitely recommend this lodge, especially if you just want to sit back, relax and recharge, listen to the sounds of nature, and see amazing dark skies.

"This is a spacious cottage in a pretty and secluded spot."
It is adequately equipped. To even mention internet in the description is a joke. It lasts just seconds before failing. We had cold water only on the 2nd morning. It was fixed but then failed again the same evening. Sykes were quick to respond….. you need to report concerns through them as no other contact details are provided. A mirror in close proximity to a socket would allow convenient use of a hairdryer…… and if you do use one routinely, pack it as none is provided!
In terms of value for money……well over £800 for the week, this does not stand well against other properties we have used. Finally….. and just a small point I know, but we had to go out and buy toilet rolls as what was provided lasted only 5 days. I have rented many cottages over the years and this is the first time such a purchase has been necessary!

Would be lovely to have a more direct route down to the river.

"This holiday lodge was perfect for us."
The idyllic location was made better by the clean lodge and the massive beautiful garden. The kitchen had all the crockery and utensils we needed and a lovely touch was the welcome box. There is so much to do in the area. The only one very minor improvement could be if they fitted a heated towel rail or similar as we found it tricky to dry things when the weather was wet outside as the whole place has underfloor heating. Not a major issue as we had sunshine most of the week though! Thanks.

"The directions to get to the accommodation need to be improved."
But once found, the location was nice and remote. The fenced garden was great for the dog. Plenty of walks nearby. The lodge was nice and spacious.
However, the heating needs to be reduced to a more suitable temperature. It was too hot. Easier to increase with temperature boost, than to try and cool the lodge down. Kitchen could be better equipped. WiFi is non existent.

"Lovely lodge and location let down by poor maintenance."
Should not have listing for WiFi as practically non existent.
Toilet seat broken, surely cleaners should have reported it, paw prints on bedsheet on double bed, dishwasher broken and dirty.
Arrival 4.30 departure 9.30 plenty of time to deep clean and fix problems

"Firstly I have to say the directions to the property are inadequate as there are notable landmarks that could be used."
Also, the flag marked on the map is incorrectly placed which is quite misleading.
Thé property is in a lovely setting and, in the main, met our expectations. However, there areas for improvement particularly given that the cottage is quite expensive to rent.
Given the extra time allocated for cleaning one would expect this to be optimum but this was not the case and we noted areas that had been skipped - the top of the fridge had not been cleaned for a long time, windows left uncleaned.
In the main furnishings were adequate but we found the settees really uncomfortable and difficult to relax in, more like waiting-room furniture.
Thé Wi-fi was so poor that it really ought not to be listed as one of the facilities. The TV is listed as ‘new’ but has only basic functions and channels, not really adequate for today’s TV viewing.
Thank you for your feedback An additional postcode is used to bring the guest closer to the property its the same postcode i use for my laundry unit which is on the same road to the lodge. There is also a large road side sign indicating where the property is. I am sorry but the price is decided by sykes
I am surprised by your comments on cleanliness it may be that the top of the fridge had been missed.
The windows are cleaned every 2 weeks but we are surrounded by trees so can get dirty in-between times. The tv is new but not advertised as smart tv All the furniture is 2 years old including the sofas. WIFI is mentioned its slow on sykes and in property. Kind regards

"Whiteadder Lodge was clean and a good level of accommodation but let down by not having WiFi and a smart TV as listed."
The heating was also set too high at 26 deg C and we were uncomfortably hot for a day until it cooled down after turning it down to 5 deg C. The lodge is in a lovely area with good walks from the door.
Thank you for your feedback we have never had complaints that the heating is too hot. The heating is very easily turned down but if left on when guests go out and its a warm day the property will get very hot but with several patio doors in the property It should not take long to cool down. Kind regards Property Owner

"The internet connection was fleeting at best and totally failed for last 3 days."
No hot water for first 2 days.
Position of tv lead to cricked neck.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry there was an issue with the boiler this was working by the following day after you arrived. There was still heating provided. The wifi is mentioned as being slow. With regards to the TV we believe is is in an ideal position so this may be preference. Kind regards Property Owner

"Beautiful location."
Accommodation great and suitable for our needs. Lovely welcome pack.
Could do with towel rails and somewhere to hang wet outdoor coats. And missing an essential wine bottle opener

"Lovely, comfortable, spacious lodge and beautiful surroundings meant that we should have loved staying there."
However, too many little niggles mean we will not be back.
Despite being closed for a number of months due to covid and being first to use since reopening, the lodge was not cleaned to the standards we would have expected. Shower heads in the en suite bathroom were very dirty, shower mats were old and discoloured so we didn’t use. We cleaned the lodge before unpacking.
A number of easy to fix things would have made our stay more comfortable. The lack of towel rails, toilet roll holders and soap dishes in shower made living in the lodge difficult. There were no mirrors in the bedrooms so drying hair was difficult.
The biggest complaint for us was the practically non existent WiFi or 3/4G. Whilst we understand it was a remote location, we were unable to properly plan our day trips away.
We left the lodge a day early.

"The lodge was clean and warm and had everything we needed for a 4 night stay."
We couldn't have asked for a better setting, and we will miss waking up to the peace and quiet and lovely view of the river. It was an ideal base for exploring Northumberland.
Our family dogs loved having the garden to run around in, which is fenced off and secure with a large deck with furniture ideal for sitting out in good weather.
The only minor point I would suggest for the owner is to have a mirror near a plug point for hairdrying/straightening, as the only mirror is in the bathroom.
We would definitely consider staying here again.

"Great location, lovely and peaceful."
Property warm and cosy in a cold and wet October. Clean and tidy with all facilities required. Would definitely recommend and would consider returning in the future.
Minor criticism is that TV is not a Smart TV, just freeview and WiFi is a bit hit and miss.
Overall very happy with property and had a fantastic week, thank you.

The heating system we could not phantom out so was overly hot all the time. Would have appreciated a welcome information pack. Also towels of very poor quality would suggest bath sheets. Furniture in 1st bedroom is un practical. Lots of good points lovely and spacious welcome food hamper was a dream. Garden is beautiful. Owners immediately fixed bedroom curtain rail. Would love to come again if problems are addressed

It is in an ideal location for exploring the borders; and its very peaceful with lovely views.
We had a great time and have already booked again for next year; and can't wait to return
One thing I would say is that it could do with better signs as wasn't that easy to find. The stone with name on is not that clear.

"Absolutely beautiful lodge!"
Our family stayed for Easter weekend and had the most amazing time. We were blown away by the quality of the lodge, the views and the really helpful manager. The grounds were very interesting for our children and the lodge is dog friendly. The rooms were comfortable with lovely bedding. The lounge area was open plan and the space was really appealing. The only tiny improvement is the pressure of the shower in the main bathroom which was ferocious! (it's a tiny issue but when you have small kids it was quite messy!) genuinely loved this holiday home. Thanks so much for a fantastic holiday, we would definitely book again.
