  • "This was such a great property."

Spacious & set in such a beautiful, peaceful surrounding that it was perfect for a weeks getaway. Needs to have the front & back porch areas cleaned from algae as I fell on rear wooden patio area. Chicken wire was perfect idea to prevent slips but only used on steps. That was the only fault. The rest was absolutely perfect. We had an evening at the Waterloo pub just up the road. I’d recommend this to anyone. Dog friendly & cosy. Surrounded by many places to visit & with days spent at the lodge it was fantastic to look out at the perfect view or catch sight of the group of deer.

  • "Lovely property."

Thank you for letting us stay. Ruby our Cocker spaniel thoroughly enjoyed the garden. This was enclosed by fencing which is not shown on pics! Our bed was very comfortable. Bathrooms were a good size. Hot water was quick and reliable. The tops of the extractor fan and fridge/freezer hadn't been wiped for a while! A new tin opener in the kitchen draw might be a good idea. The treats on arrival were a nice touch. Thank you. One of our most favourite places booked with Sykes. Very handily placed for trips up and down the coast. Never used the local pubs so have no feedback. North Berwick and Bamburgh/Seahouses being lovely places. Lovely week long break. Thank you.

Fabulous enclosed garden space for dogs and children. Clean and well maintained. Beds were really comfy and the underfloor heating great for cooler evening and mornings. Great for observing the deer who came into the garden, also saw rabbits, squirrels, woodpecker, bats and birds of prey.

Second time we stayed at Whittadder Lodge this year, not such a good experience this time unfortunately due to a not so nice smell in the en-suite, this did put a dampener on our trip…

Porch looks onto huge fenced garden and we were delighted to see deer, squirrels and pheasants in or behind the garden. The river view at the bottom of the garden is beautiful. Perfect location, very private and peaceful and still within reasonable distance to amenities and tourist attractions. Highly recommend Whittadder Lodge ❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The lodge was maintained to a high standard, clean and well equipped with cleaning materials. We also found board games and binoculars which was a nice touch. During our stay we were visited by friends who were also impressed with the cottage and likely to be future customers. Overall a warm and cosy lodge. We hope to return soon.

Fabulous stay in the lodge beautiful surroundings with deer running free across the gardens - lodge was fabulous albeit outside a little tired - husband did manage to get a hole in his shorts by catching them on some nails out the front fence - we did manage to make this safe for others who maybe visiting - however that said we did have a wonderful break and would definitely return

Hot water gets very very hot. No bowl or plug in sink so couldn't wash up properly, though there is a dish washer which is not really practicable for 2 people. Overall we enjoyed the stay and the wonderful view and deer running across the garden. Would recommend highly to anyone.

  • "The house is spotless, beds comfortable and is well equipped."

Location is great, very peaceful and the huge enclosed garden was an added bonus for my puppy as well as spectacular views. The downside was the heating. As long as the sun was shining, the living area and front bedroom was warm but other two bedrooms and bathrooms were cold and twice the boiler tripped leaving us without heating and hot water although maintenance arrived very quickly after my call to Sykes.

  • "We had a lovely holiday despite occasional bad weather days."

We found the lodge easily from the directions given. It is spacious, bright and comfortable. The heating works EXTREMELY well. The setting of 23C was much too high for us and the thick duvet and continuing heat was a problem overnight when trying to sleep. We couldn’t understand the thermostat system so we were literally toasted. The bathroom taps are also hard to switch on and then off again. The gas hob on the brand new range didn’t work but we were given a discount for that. So some minor teething problems which hopefully can be quickly resolved. Overall we loved the lodge. It is a magical setting overlooking a river in the valley below and surrounded by woods. The big windows give lots of light to allow you to enjoy the view and the rear decking and vast outside space is lovely. Our dog was securely contained by the fence, though a larger dog would jump over it. I would recommend this to a friend.

About the location

CHIRNSIDE

Duns 6 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 9 miles.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Whiteadder and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around the Borders as a memorial to the village’s home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting quaint, narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf, walking and riding opportunities and the nearby resorts of Eyemouth, Coldingham and Spittal offer soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. A brilliant location for exploring historic Edinburgh, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the attractions of Holy Island, Paxton House, Manderson, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle. Chirnside is a great holiday location all year round.
