  • "The area is fantastic and I would implore anyone considering a visit to Northumberland to do so."

What set the tone for our stay was the provisions in the flat. Some milk for tea/coffee, some bread, and a bottle of wine. It was a lovely way to start the holiday. Tim was extremely helpful and was on hand to answer any questions we had. The bed was extremely comfortably and the whole flat fit the two of us brilliantly.

  • "Tim was incredibly helpful and gave us excellent advice about local places."

The blinds are annoying, but we managed to lower the ones in the bedroom (they did let a lot of light in). Great location, and quiet. Parking was extremely convenient too.

Great base to explore from and nicely decorated & equipped apartment. Only very minor gripe was the window blinds where the plastic clips came off every nearly time they were put up so took ages.

They need to go! Tim was excellent and very helpful. The apartment was very pleasant and in a perfect location.

The decor is good and bedroom and shower what is lacking is the kitchen equipment no dishes suitable for putting in the oven other than a massive earthenware dish that was suitable for about six people bearing in mind the occupancy for this property is for two also the quality of crockery very poor which let the property down other than that the caretaker very helpful

  • "The location, accommodation, and welcome all exceeded expectation."

If I was to critique one thing, and this is really minor... the Roman blinds throughout the property weren’t set up right, and were a little challenging to raise and lower. We didn’t even raise it with the caretaker as it was such a minor thing. I was very surprised to find milk, coffee and a small loaf of bread on arrival. That was a nice, unexpected touch. The caretaker let us in, and also told us where we could find local amenities, and was available if we needed anything.

  • "PLEASE fix or replace the blinds."

Most don't work, and many are broken altogether. Might be a good idea to manage expectations by drawing attention to the difficulty of access via steps and slopes. Balance this against access to good shops in the town. Excellent service from Tim Syass, site manager.

  • "We had a fantastic time exploring the Northumbrian coastline and Alnwick was a great base."

The accommodation was excellent and Tim was really helpful. For anyone wondering the accommodation was lovely, clean and airy and those blinds are new and work perfectly well if you’re used to blinds and how they work.

  • "There were many positives."

Firstly, the property was really well appointed, small but big enough for two, with a comfy settee and bed. However, the property had not been cleaned thoroughly. Upstairs was ok apart from lots of dust on the skirting boards and the bin in the bathroom hadn't been emptied. There was a tea stain at the top of the banister which was very noticeable and the light switches were grubby, indicating that the touch points had not been sanitised. The fridge in the kitchen was not clean either inside or outside and indeed contained a butter dish with scrapings of butter still in it. The drawer in the washing machine was full of gunk and I had to clean it out as it would not perform properly. There was dried egg on one of the dishes, prompting me to clean all the dishes and cutlery and clean and sanitise the kitchen itself. I had to go out to buy some mugs as the ones provided were so badly stained. There was only one dining chair provided, Tim, the manager said the previous occupant was 'large' and had broken it, however I note from other reviews that the chair had been rickety for some time. We were there for two weeks and were never given another chair, leaving one of us dining at the table and the other having to lean over the coffee table to eat. The carpet in the living room had the previous occupants toast crumbs, lumps of fluff etc. The Roman blinds caused endless stress and frustration and really need to go. The dining table was grubby so again, we had to scrub this and had to throw the cloth away when we had done so as it was so dirty. There is no information in the property about recycling, where to put the rubbish etc. so we ended up with bin bags in the small kitchen. It is a real shame about the issues I have highlighted as the furnishings, settee, bed and kitchen items were very good and the flat is ideally placed. If the property was clean and the Roman blinds were replaced and a chair provided we would definitely stay again. Just really disappointed with the lack of cleanliness, especially given we are in the middle of a pandemic.

  • "Tim was very helpful when contacting him both before and on arrival."

The start up pack of bread, milk and especially the wine was much appreciated. Car parking was close, but a car parked there had it's window broken one night so I started parking elsewhere overnight. But there are a few other 24 hour car parks within a 5 minute walk so it wasn't a problem. A word of warning, I was talking to a CEO while packing the car to leave and they are changing their enforcement on the car park near to the cottages and they are currently putting warning notices on cars left over 24 hours. I presume these will soon become fines. One of the dining chairs was not very stable and the roman blinds confirmed our opinion never to have them. Otherwise a comfortable, warm, well appointed, and very convenient place to stay in the lovely town of Alnwick.

  • "Tim the Manager was excellent - good communication and helpful."

There was, however, only one refuse bag provided and as there is no dishwasher, would have expected some dish washing liquid. There was a small drop sufficient for one day only, presumably left by the previous occupant? As there were only 4 or less of most items, then washing up regularly was a necessity. There was no book, as usually provided, explaining what to do with recycling, the key on leaving, where to dispose of rubbish etc. The apartment is quite small but adequate for 2 but the large 'coffee' table in the lounge is far too big, with drawers to the ground (all empty) and literally was a waste of space. A small nest of tables would be better. The wine, bread and milk were appreciated but would have preferred more of the above basic items and only one bottle of wine. The local church bells chime on the quarter hour and continue through the night! Very convenient location, as long as you are a deep sleeper. So overall ok but wouldn't recommend to friends and would not return.

It was clean and warm. The landlord had left a few essential provisions (including wine!) for our arrival, which was a nice touch. We had a problem with the blinds, he was easy to contact and told us not to worry, he would sort it out. It would be nice if he had a guest comments book at the property, we generally like to comment while we are there. All in all we were happy with the accommodation.

Very modern and clean. Ideal location for Alnwick town centre. Parking was easy in a nearby car park and we were given a free parking disc should we need at some point, although most car parks in Northumberland are free. About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
