  • "Lovely property, really comfortable and well equipped with plenty of room."

We were a family of 4 adults and there was room to spread out. Beds comfortable and bathrooms all good and well cleaned prior to arrival. Kitchen had lots of utensils etc so dead easy to cook as well in the house. Parking a great bonus as well. Location excellent for Alnwick, some nice bars and restaurants in the town and a minutes walk from the castle. Nice and clean and welcoming on arrival. Can't really fault it apart from the need for the front door handle needing some attention.

  • "Property was clean and the furnishing were good."

Very central to the town and attractions. Private parking was very welcome. The outdoor area was of no use. The front door lock and handle are of need of urgent attention.

  • "This property is well situated for exploring Alnwich and Northumberland generally."

It is a quiet area. It has three good sized bedrooms (I found the bed in the main bedroom on the third floor very comfortable), well equipped bathrooms, two living rooms and an up to date kitchen. It is all well decorated. The owner has left lots of useful information. If I were to make negative comments (and these are more comments rather than criticisms) - the central heating is somewhat fiddly - we had to reset this upon arrival and the house was therefore cold until it had cut back in - there were good instructions as to what to do - but I am no plumber. The recycling instructions in the cottage seem to contradict those on the bins themselves. The filter in the hoover seemed to be blocked or obstructed. These observations do not detract from the fact that this is a lovely property in a pretty village/town in a great location.

Many thanks for your feedback, and for alerting us to problems with the heating. We're obviously pleased you were able to use the information we had provided to resolve it but we will investigate it further to avoid it being a problem in future. Property Owner

  • "Very surprised and disappointed at the amount of dust etc on window sills, blinds, light fittings, behind beds etc."

The house had a permanence of damp smell throughout. We were notified that there was an issue with one radiator in the hall. The front door really needs fixing, as does the lock. To open the door required a hefty push, and the lock is clearly in need of replacing. We left a day early because the dampness and dust affected my wife's asthma. The main bed mattress is well past its best, and needs replacing. On the plus side, an extremely well sited property for town access, complete with car parking. The provision of utensils, towels etc was also first class. All in all, a deep clean is really recommended.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you felt that house was damp and dusty. We had actually stayed there until the day before you arrived and the heating was working well. The issue with the radiator should not have affected this. I had alerted you to the door being slightly warped - a consequence of the winter season I am afraid. The lock and door handle are very secure, having been replaced last year. I am sorry that you didn’t feel able to contact us about these issues whilst you were at the house as we could have resolved them for you. Property Owner

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
