Amble has a lovely vibe with great walks around. Warkworth is also a lovely village with a great beach. We travelled the whole of the Northumberland coastal route visiting castles right up to Berwick on Tweed and Lindisfarne. Travelled across to Kielder Dam and Forest. Enjoyed all of the holiday.

  • "Comfortable and cosy cottage; nicely clean on arrival and with milk / teabags / biscuits / wine welcome package which we enjoyed."

Cottage is slightly dated but well-equipped and a good space to be able to live in for the week. The owner was very helpful and accessible (not that we had any issues). The location is great - the kitchen overlooks the beach and entrance to Amble harbour. Parking is easy (outside the house or along the adjacent street) and the area sociable. A funfair was running for a few days opposite, on the green, but was neither particularly noisy nor a problem. The cottage is a great base for walks to the dunes (south) or Warkworth (north, not quite an hour) and for days out to Berwick (walk round the walls, nice lunch), Cragside House (NT property, excellent day out) and Hexham (to visit Housesreads Roman museum). There are plenty of accessible minisupermarkets withoin 10 minutes walk (Co-op, Tesco) and a big Morrisons 5 minutes drive away (on the link road by-passing Amble) where you can also get fuel. Wifi signal is strong (better than ours at home!) and lounge a comfortable living area. Was good value - we enjoyed our stay!

We had already been to stay in Lythem St.Annes for a short break and that had been Covid secure with cushions that could not be washed removed. The first thing we saw was a tatty old throw on one of the sofas it should not have been there. We had brought food and we lifted out 2 dinner plates which both had dried food on.Luckily we had brought a picnic basket so could use those plates. The fire was thick with dust and there were many dusty old ornamnts We had brought lots of cleaning products so I spent several hours cleaning all the surfaces and decided we would not use any of their impliments and took our food home. The bathroom had a clean toilet and wash basin but the tiles were very dirty and had not been cleaned once again there were dirty dusty ornaments. In the garden there was lots of rubbish at the side of the shed . When we went into Amble every where we went cafes restaurants were covid sucure . I do not have a smart phone so could not take photographs. We shower every day but could not stand to use it and on Wednesday night we decided to leave could not cope with the dirty place any more. I think in a time of a deadly pandemic you need to check your properties to ensure this does not happen to any one else.

Fabulous seaview from the very well equipped kitchen. Gardens secure, enclosed and dog proof! Lots of walkies from the front door with beaches, castles and plenty of wildlife. Amble is a charming little place. Very dog (& people!) friendly with plenty to explore. I must admit on arrival I was a bit underwelmed but totally converted after our first walkies along the pier into the harbour. Absolutely no complaints. The kitchen in this Amble cottage is light and bright and has been well designed with a wide window to offer beautiful views of the sea.

The open plan living area provides a sociable place for guests to gather; on chilly days the attractive woodburner, set in a stone inglenook, can be lit to provide a warm, cosy sitting area.

When the sun is shining, the French doors can be thrown open to let the sun creep in from the enclosed south-facing courtyard, a delightful little sun trap ideal for an afternoon's alfresco dining, relaxing, or a great place for the kids to play with the dog.

This Amble cottage overlooks a grassy area which leads to the wooden Amble pier, a favourite spot for kids of all ages to dangle a line off the edge, hoping for a catch.

The popular port of Amble has something that appeals to everyone, and is a vibrant harbour hosting a wide variety of pubs, cafés and restaurants.

This Amble cottage is situated on the Coast & Castles cycle route, making it attractive for cyclists and walkers wishing to explore Northumberland.

Discover the pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster, visit picturesque Warkworth just a mile away, or take in Alnwick Castle and its impressive garden, just a 15 minute drive along unspoilt, scenic roads.

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
