A ‘proper’ cottage in a peaceful location, ideal for exploring the Northumberland coast. Appreciated the home crafted items like the cupboard curtain in the kitchen, the ‘SEA ‘ knitted hanging and denim mat as well as and the crocheted throw. So much work and care to create a homely ambiance. LOTS of books! A generous welcome gift. Thank you!

I have only one point of disappointment which was that the TV was minuscule (14inch?), and not being a smart TV you could not access bbc iplayer or other streaming services - this left the evenings where we did watch telly down to the whims of scheduling. I think the cottage would be perfect with just a larger smart TV.

It is clean, well equipped, and tastefully decorated. The owners have clearly given some careful thought to the comfort of their guests. After a long journey we were very happy to find milk in the fridge so we could make a reviving cup of tea and we also enjoyed the tasty biscuits that were kindly be left for us. Having a beautiful beach just a short walk away was a real bonus. We loved splashing in the waves and skimming stones and then returning to our cosy holiday home for hot chocolate, and on a practical note, the entrance hall/utility space was very handy as it meant we could get out our wet gear quickly and hang it all up to dry ready for our next adventure. We also visited the nature reserve just around the corner and were impressed with the warm welcome in the lovely lookout cafe, which was perfect for bird watching... and eating cake! As well as venturing out we also rather liked staying in with the log burner on watching family films. The cottage has a great selection of dvds, books, and a basket of toys for little people.

Lovely places like Warkworth, Alnwick, Bamburgh and Seahouses are within an easy drive, and sights such as Cragside are a mere hour away by car. This is a beautiful and cosy cottage that is really comfortable and welcoming. It's excellently presented and very clean. Excellent facilities and wonderful to have a well done kitchen with everything there for those of us who like to cook. Great library and DVD collection too for nights in. The only bits we'd say to bear in mind are about the beach location and the broadband. The walk to the beach is ok for an adult - it's a good 10 minute walk - but we found it was too much for a young child. There is thankfully a car park nearby. Also, broadband speed is slow. This is no fault of the cottage, it's just that it's in a rural location. The Wi-Fi is good throughout the cottage and you can browse the internet but it's no use for streaming on a tablet.

Meticulously clean and beautifully decorated and equipped - especially the kitchen and lounge. Terrific library. All the decor and furnishings are well thought-out and integrated, and the lounge is one of the best we’ve seen in our many holiday cottage stays; one of our party was ill for most of the week, but there couldn’t have been a nicer cottage to be ‘stuck’ in. Upstairs is a bit less spacious, but beds are comfortable and the shower is good. Footpath across the fields gets you to the shoreline in ten minutes. Overall, a first-class cottage, really well looked after. Kudos to the owners. :-)

The cottage is thoughtfully put together and is clearly cared about. We choose the cottage because it had a woodburner which kept us toasty during out stay (we did bring and buy our own wood to see us through the week) and it had a kitchen capable of cooking Christmas dinner. When we arrived some Christmas decorations had been hung which was an unexpected and thoughtful touch. We are keen walkers so that boot room behind the kitchen was perfect and in poor weather outdoor weather could be corralled in one place without trapsing through the house. The cottage was always warm to come back to and there was plenty of hot water. It matched our needs perfectly and we would recommend to anyone else who wants to explore the Northumberland coast and genuinely self cater.

  • "Corner Cottage, High Hauxley, is a very nicely presented and clean holiday cottage, with a lovely welcome pack of Prosecco and biscuits on arrival."

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare breakfasts, lunches and evening meals (when not eating out). The book library is well stocked with a whole range of books, plus there are a good selection of DVDs (in particular for little ones). There are plenty of games to keep families entertained on evenings too. Corner Cottage ideally suits couples as opposed to families due to it's size, which we felt was somewhat lacking, in addition to their being limited storage space to put away clothes for a weeks stay. On a personal note we felt the beds were too hard (for us it was like sleeping on floorboards) and the bathroom sink far too tiny. We decided to cut short the week's stay due to the uncomfortable beds as it was very difficult to get a good nights sleep, plus the people staying next door in Middle Cottage were very noisy through to the early hours of the mornings which kept us awake most nights! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OWNERS REPLY - We take our customer's feedback very seriously and we were saddened to hear that you cut short your holiday at Corner Cottage due to the beds and noise from holiday makers in the adjoining property. With regard to the beds, you compared sleeping on them to sleeping on floorboards. We should like to = point out that our mattresses are of medium firmness and in three years of running our cottage we haven't had any negative feedback about them. Everyone is different however, and although we have tried to strike a balance, it obviously didn't work in your case. With regard to the noisy neighbours, although we cannot be held responsible for them, it is a great shame you hadn't thought to get in touch with us at the time using the details provided in the cottage, or alternatively you could have contacted Sykes. Either way, we could have got on to the problem immediately and dealt with it. Once again, we are very sorry that your holiday didn't live up to expectations.

  • "We really enjoyed our time at the Corner Cottage but there were 2 or 3 things that would have made it better."

These are not complaints - they are just recommendations based on our experience. We had intended to use both bedrooms but our daughter was taken ill & the 2nd bedroom was therefore available fo us to use & we did find it beneficial as the master bedroom was a bit cramped for space & we were able to make god use of the set of drawers & the hooks of the wall in the 2nd bedroom. We believe that the master bedroom would be much improved if the large Wardrobe was removed & was replaced by a small set of drawers & wall hooks similar to those in the 2nd bedroom. The bed could then be moved to a more central position, perhaps creating room for 2 small bedside cabinets & certainly giving more room around the bed near the window & providing somewhere for day-clothes to be placed conveniently overnight. We also feel that a slightly larger hand-basin in the bathroom would be an improvement. The current basin really is difficult to use properly. A few CD's would also have been welcomed for use on the player you supplied in the lounge We hope you will not be offended by these suggestions - we loved the cottage & the amenities & we had a super week there. You have obviously gone to great trouble to proved a warm, friendly & cosy environment - and we loved it!! Warm regards David & Sharon

Well equipped for all your self-catering needs. Great selection of books: good literature and everything relating to Northumberland's walks. places of interest, history, wild life, etc. Lots of children's stuff too. Beds a little firm for us, but that's a personal preference. Quite location, beach and nature reserve easily walked to. Shops, pubs etc., a short drive. Convenient for all Northumberland has to offer. Highly recommended! Tip: after unloading, move your car to the road. The off-road parking at the rear is under a large tree which, in early June at least, dropped a lot of very sticky debris.
