So thoughtful, thorough and determined to ensure everything that could be provided was, and that everything was in excellent condition. It’s so rare these days for anybody to go to such lengths to ensure absolutely nothing was wanting. On top of this, the cottage was delightful, the short trip to the beach was fantastic, as too were the many beaches and villages nearby, especially Amble with its brilliant Sunday market and mouth watering eateries. You will not be disappointed if you plan a visit to this beautiful place.

  • "We were in High Hauxley in 2016."

The cottage was great and the owners very friendly. We felt very comfortable. The house is somewhat isolated from the nearest town Amble, but on the beach through the dunes for about an hour. Unfortunately you have to use the car for everything else. Still an incredibly beautiful area.

The property

This traditional, mid-terrace Northumberland cottage is located in the centre of the peaceful hamlet of High Hauxley, 1.5 miles south of the busy fishing port of Amble.

Less than half a mile from the beach, Middle Cottage offers character and romantic charm and is an ideal base for a small family or a couple wishing to explore the Heritage Coastline.

On the ground floor of this quaint cottage is a well-equipped kitchen, along with a spacious sitting room with a dining area and cosy woodburning stove for those chillier Northumberland nights.

The staircase from the sitting room takes you to the first floor, with a bathroom and two cosy bedrooms, each with memory foam mattresses.

The beach at Low Hauxley is just a couple of minutes' drive away, where the long golden sands stretch all the way around Druridge Bay, so whether you want to cycle, walk the dogs or simply relax by the sea, this is just the spot.

There is a licensed restaurant halfway into Amble serving good food, or just a little further up the coast, Amble itself has a lovely assortment of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

Many small restaurants and eateries have popped up in Amble recently, so there is a wide choice on offer.

A short drive from Middle Cottage takes you to the charming coastal villages of Warkworth and Alnmouth.

Why not take a trip to Craster and sample a crab sandwich or two in The Jolly Fisherman, then take a leisurely stroll to Dunstanburgh Castle with its stunning backdrop of the North Sea?

Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island and Cragside are all within easy reach.

A safe, pet-friendly base for that perfect seaside break.

About the location

HIGH HAUXLEY

Amble 1.5 miles; Alnwick 11 miles.

The hamlet of High Hauxley is situated half a mile inland from the hamlet of Low Hauxley at the northern end of Druridge Bay, a four-mile stretch of sweeping sand dunes and white sands with rock pools to explore at low tide. Less than two miles away is the small rejuvenated fishing port of Amble, which sits at the mouth of the River Coquet and offers a yachting marina, a harbour and fishing pier, sandy beaches and stunning coastal walks. Just a mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, and you can enjoy a boat trip around the island with its RSPB reserve, home to a large population of terns, puffins, eider ducks and seals. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster are only a short drive away, whilst the castles of picturesque Warkworth and Alnwick, along with its award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
