The Retreat was clean and well presented on the surface and has been improved to a lovely standard. However, we rented the property as it accommodated 7 people and the sitting room only had seating for 6 and the dining room had a table and 5 chairs with a smaller table and 4 chairs in the kitchen. This meant constantly moving chairs around and one person sitting on the floor in the living room. There were only 7 forks in the cutlery drawer along with 4 teaspoons although there were sufficient knives and spoons. There were only 5 mismatched wine glasses. The front door of the property obviously had something wrong with the lock and made it almost impossible to open the door all week and the door from the porch to the kitchen only opened from the kitchen side which resulted in many occasions of people getting locked out of the kitchen and having to knock until someone came to let them back in. One of the bedroom doors could only be opened from the hallway if you really put your shoulder to the door and pushed so had to be left open all week.

The property

A charming end of terrace cottage in a premier position in Amble, just a few hundred yards from the North Sea.

Tastefully presented, this comfortable cottage offers a backdrop of vibrant florals and sparkling overhead lights; a well-positioned base for a couples or friends wishing to explore Northumberland.

This holiday cottage has been refurbished to a high standard, and offers four bedrooms, including a king-size double room with sea views, plus a family bathroom with a bath and overhead shower, as well as a ground floor cloakroom.

The front entrance leads to a dining area with a staircase to the first floor, while the kitchen to the rear of the cottage has a sleek, modern feel, a great place to rustle up a tasty treat for all the party.

The spacious sitting area makes a cosy retreat after a long hard day on the beach, whilst the warming multi-fuel stove is perfect to curl up in front of on chillier evenings.

2 Blackwood Street overlooks a grassy area which leads to the seashore, a great spot for kids to play or to take the dogs for that longed-for walk.

The increasingly-popular port of Amble has something for everyone; discover the pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster, visit picturesque Warkworth just a mile away, or take in Alnwick Castle and its impressive garden, just a fifteen minute drive along unspoilt, scenic roads.

A superb base for friends or family to gather for a holiday by the sea.

About the location

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
