  • "Restharrow lodge was an ideal base for exploring Bamburgh and surrounding area."

The living area was comfortable and well stocked with everything needed for our stay. The bedrooms were quite small and there wasn't a great deal of storage. OK if you're only there for a few days but less so if you're there for a week. The hot tub was brilliant - the best we've used.

We were very comfortable. Just a few v minor extras that would be welcome: oven gloves, rubber mat for shower (bit slippery), glass casserole with lid for microwave & how about an egg poacher?? Thoroughly enjoyed our week & would happily return.

The property was really nice but we found it difficult to work out the heating and we still never managed to get the heated towel rails on. Also we were unable to get normal tv on any of the tvs which was a bit frustrating. Minor details but frustrating. Apart from that it was a great holiday and would rebook the lodge again.

Perfect for our family of 5. Loved the area, 5 mins drive to the beach at Bamburgh. Luxury hottub in peaceful surroundings. The lodge had an excellent welcome pack, was very clean and had everything we needed. Would love to return!

  • "The grocery welcome pack was a nice and ‘welcome’ surprise."

Hot tub well heated and accessible. Property was clean and tidy inside. However the property in need of some TLC (we had a constant dripping tap in kitchen-not able to be repaired during our stay, despite reporting on arrival, however owner did explain reason for this). Outside of the property needs a bit of a spruce up (lots of cobwebs and general wear & tear, gutter constantly dripping over bifold doors & not able to open bifold doors as they were extremely stiff- we are use to opening them as have them at home!). Lots of dead insects/daddy long legs between shutters/windows in bedroom. Outdoor furniture cushions wet and not able to be used as cover used but not secured & no ability to store cushions inside. Extremely hot and provision of a fan/fans would have been extremely welcome in the heat as the lodge is like a greenhouse with lots of glass. Not able to access outside bins (shed locked with 2 padlocks and no keys provided). Not able to operate TVs in any bedroom & no instructions provided in information pack. Visitor information pack out of date… I.e. states property let by ‘crabtree&crabtree’ not ‘Sykes cottages’, recommends a restaurant in Bamburgh (Mizen Head Hotel) that has been shut down for well over 18 months! Hot tub operational info doesn’t relate to the hot tub in situ.

  • "A wonderful place to stay with a fabulous hot tub ."

A real advantage ,A very helpful owner who answered all our queries & helped to solve any problem.Just a few things which we feel would be an improvement . The guidebook in the lodge is very out of date (it says no dogs allowed )also the hot tub instructions did not relate to the hot tub. We found it very difficult to access the TVs as there were no instructions to specify that they had to be used via WiFi .Also in the lounge the Sky tv would not work because the card had been placed in the machine upside down.In spite of this Restharrow Lodge is a lovely lodge & we all enjoyed an excellent holiday .

  • "The lodge was absolutely amazing and the hosts had thought of everything."

It was very comfortable and homely, but very modern and cozy. We were happy enough to stay in and cook one night rather than visit the local pubs. It was very nice of the hosts to leave basic food (milk, eggs and bread), the house was also full equipped with cleaning products. Our only issue was finding the place, as it was dark when we arrived. We ended up in a different field of lodges that we’re still being built. We also struggled to find our lodge due to there being no outdoor light, lit footpath or clearly lit lodge number. We were running around with torches to different lodges. I would also like to suggest additional lighting near the hot tub.

  • "Lovely cottage but on the downside there was foisty smell in both toilets, towel rail in on-suite was dirty and marked the towels."

Owner has a camera bell set up but kept going off in the cottage when no one at the door. Bins at the rear of the property which is good but no footpath to get to them you have cross over on the wet grass. Short stroll into Bamburgh is not quite true as it is about 2 miles. Cottage lacks a floor mop and a sweeping brush to keep it clean. But we still had a good time and would go back earlier in the year as November was cold and wet.

  • "We have holidayed many times in this area and chose this accomodation for its location and luxury."

The location did not disappoint - 20 min walk to Budle Bay and a good 45 mins walk into Bamburgh or a 5 min car journey. Views are spectalular from the top of the quarry & would thoroughly recommend. The accommodation, although at first glance looks impressive, upon closer inspection it is let down in several areas, which you would not expect at this end of the price range. On a positive note, the mattresses, pillows and duvets were gorgeously comfortable as were the sofas. The smart TV was great, which enabled us to use Netflix - a must for the kids! The hot tub was great (other than last morning) - more than big enough for a group of 8. Other than a pint of milk and 4 individual biscuits, there is no welcome pack. Although this is a "nice to have" this is something I have become used to in other holiday lets (all of which have been less expensive than this one). Some local produce, fruit, juice etc. would be a nice touch. This is something perhaps the owners could look into. Cleanliness is the main issue (also mentiontioned in earlier feedback posts). Cobwebs on windows & ceiling, crockery had to be washed before use, old pair of socks left in one of the top bunk beds under the mattress - not a nice find for the child in the lower bunk (!) In general the whole place needs a good clean. There is no mop or bucket which would be useful and the bedrooms would benefit from a dressing table. A shelf would also be useful in the bathrooms. The front door bell did ring several times for no reason which was a little frustrating. A wider range of cooking utensils is a must - one small frying pan for a group of 8 is not practical by any stretch of the imagination. Hot tub was "topped up" with cold water at 8am on the morning of departure, which made it impossible for anyone to have a "last dip" before the 10am detparture. We had a great holiday in one of our favourite areas despite the points raised above - the lodge is lovely, however couldn't help feeling disappointed.

  • "Beautiful accommodation in a lovely setting."

Furnishings excellent quality. Overall very clean let down by sloppy missed areas. Dirty greasy grill pan in oven on our arrival.Moved bedside table by wall in en-suite room to find a dropped earring and found it filthy with dust and hairs, obviously never cleaned. Disappointed that the hot tub that was one of the reasons we booked this lodge only worked for 4 days of our week as a new part was needed and was only fixed on our last full day. Should have been informed of this. A shame about these as the lodge and setting were so perfect.

Dear Sandra, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback. We are delighted to hear that you found the lodge, the setting and the furnishings to be excellent. We are very sorry to hear about the areas that were missed by our cleaners. This has now been addressed with them and they have offered their apologies. With regards to the hot tub, it appears there may have been some miscommunication in your party. As soon as we were made aware that the hot tub screen had been damaged, a replacement was ordered and it was fitted within 48 hours of us being notified. The guest that we did speak to over the telephone was made well aware that the hot tub could still be used and it was only the spa jets that would not work, so unfortunately there was no need to avoid using the hot tub. We do hope you will return to Restharrow Lodge in future. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "Well designed very modern lodge with great facilities from BBQ, TVs in all bedrooms, hot tub, washer/dryer."

Beautiful location looking down a Bamburgh Castle footpath close by to walk into Bamburgh 1.5 miles and nearest beach around 20 minutes walk by road (no footpath) Dog friendly would be ideal if the decking was more enclosed as the wires around kept coming apart and our escape artist dogs had to be watched at all times. My minor criticisms would be the floor was a little dusty & the shower tray outside needs attention in the main bathroom, the frying pan is very worn & scratched & could not be used. Other than that we were very lucky with the weather which made for a perfect 5 day break thank you

  • "Fabulous lodge."

Extremely well designed, very spacious with luxury fittings. Particularly loved the woodburner and hot tub. There is endless hot water for pre and after hot tub showers. The lodge is about 2 miles from Bamburgh in a really quiet location. Would recommend early morning walks on the beach. The quarry immediately behind the lodge has been made a nature reserve and is excellent for bird watching whilst sitting in the hot tub. Would definitely recommend the lodge for anyone visiting the area.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
