  • "It’s hard to describe this house!"

On paper it looks good but the reality is very different. The best and possibly only good thing is the location! It lacks care and definitely lacks crockery…not enough bowls for two people to have a two course meal without washing up between courses! We just about managed the bathroom where it’s almost impossible to move. Most windows done open so very hot unless you close the blinds then it’s like sitting in a box! Definitely not worth the astronomical money I paid!

  • "Location, location."

Its greatest appeal in the heart of popular Bamburgh. The cottage is well appointed but primarily suited as an adjunct to Rock House , lacking any outdoor facilities other than a parking space, It is only suited for two plus a child due to lack of space, despite having five beds available. The staircase is steep and winding thus making it potentially hazardous for anyone that may be elderly or struggling with mobility. Several maintenance issues, no toilet rolls, light bulb not replaced for moths but just minor irritants . There is no fire escape and the combination of a challenging staircase could cause problems iif an emergency occurred., Nevertheless, good build and good internal design but not a cottage where you would stay and enjoy internal and garden facilities …all a bit cramped.

  • "The holiday cottage my family stayed in last week, was absolutely shocking!"

We reported the issues with a representative during our stay. The representative offered to send some workmen to fix the problems, but we declined as we did not wish to have workmen doing jobs in the holiday accommodation, whilst we were staying there. Instead we agreed with the representative to follow up afterwards, having already reported our grievance with her. We took many photos of all areas of the property that had been severely neglected. This property required some serious maintenance, and not excluding the removal of photos on the company website showing a back garden, which did not exist!! (and was in fact a view of rubbish bins). This property really is a case of ''what lies beneath the surface'' situation. From the deceptive photos online to the broken bed, which could not be used, to the health and safety issue with the broken, taped together glass electric hob, to the U bend in the under sink plumbing in the kitchen which was incorrectly fitted and supported by an upside down crockery dish, which leaked water frequently, to the sewage stench that permeated throughout the kitchen, hallway and downstairs loo. The list truly goes on and on..... The dining room chairs were absolutely appalling. They were so badly damaged and worn, the fake leather shredded all over the house. The vacuum cleaner which we used to hoover the shreds from the chairs, stank of baby vomit and wet dog hair. There was one communal wardrobe for the property. This space however, was filled with enormous laundry bags, which were filled with dirty linens and labelled with other rental cottages names. there were also other peoples shirts and pyjamas. We therefore were unable to unpack and hang our clothes in the wardrobe or indeed iron them, as the ironing board that was provided, was only suitable for a child. The patio furniture was so rusted and dirty, we were unable to sit outside the property. There were lightbulbs missing in the living room lamps, and bad stains on the walls and carpets throughout. We paid a huge amount of money for this property, The state of the property was completely unacceptable. This message will be going directly to customer services, along with the photos taken. And will be followed up with a phone call. In the meantime, we look forward to your rapid response with this matter. Thank you.

  • "Lovely stay in a lovely cottage in a beautiful place."

There was an ongoing issue with the toilets but a plumber was sent to sort it out very promptly. We thoroughly enjoyed our week

  • "There appears to be a lack of maintenance."

Skirting boards and shutters are dusty. Carpets tatty and grubby. Main gripe is that there was a problem with one of the loos and it flushed constantly. This was reported to the agent who promised someone would visit to have a look but despite staying in all Saturday afternoon no-one came and no explanation given as to why.Problem was still there on Wednesday. Due to the noise from the loo the double bedroom was unusable. Complete lack of courtesy from agent. Would not recommend.

  • "We enjoyed our stay however we have a couple of not so goods as follows: The cooker hob needs replacing…."

It has a temporary repair which really should have been sorted prior to visit. The dining room chair seats (all of them) are a mess and the bits need to be constantly hoovered which is not very good is it? The staircase is very narrow and not easy at all for middle aged or elderly. The bathroom cubicles are very small, very small, and again not easy particularly for older people. The hot water is variable in the showers when other taps are used at the same time! The parking is very tight especially when Rock Cottage has three places in a very confined area. The range of pots kitchen equipment, pans etc is very limited. The photographs of the property show a closed gate which really, due to access, needs to be open at all times. It would also be useful to ensure that renters are made aware that the property is not enclosed (for dog). All in all not really a five star! Trust you find the above useful. Thank you.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
