Reviewed by SoniaSep 2020 "Porthole Cottage is a lovely house minutes from the old harbour and beach at Beadnell." House was as advertised, spotless and well equipped for everything you need during a holiday. Chris and Julie the owners were in touch and very helpful when my booking had to be postponed due to COVID and stepped in when I was getting nowhere with Sykes to ensure everything was sorted and I was able to re-arrange my booking. The were in contact when I was there as well to ensure I was happy with the place. Can't thank them enough for their efforts and providing a great place for me and my wee dogs to have our holiday. It's a great place to stay for exploring the northern part of Northumbria - some beautiful beaches, castles and small quaint villages about to explore and walks to go on. Plenty of places nearby to eat out and everywhere was COVID safe and also a fantastic area to visit with the dogs as so many dog accessible places. I would be happy to re-visit Porthole Cottage and this area. Reviewed by JackieSep 2020 "Lovely cottage, great location." I’m sure we’ll be back. Reviewed by MikeAug 2020 "Good venue" Reviewed by AnthonyJul 2020 "Had a lovely time!" Place was cosy and comfy - a real home from home. Would definitely book again. Contact with the owners - they were considerate helpful and responsive. Only issue was with Sykes after the booking in their handling of an enquiry from the owners as to self supply of quilts pillows bedding and towels ( due to COViID) It was dealt with in a very perfunctory manner by Sykes but recovered well by the owners who personally contacted me later. I have been a regular customer of Sykes for several years and did not appreciate the way in which this was handled. Can't recommend Porthole Cottage highly enough for comfort, and location, a perfect recipe for a great holiday! This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
