  • "Had a really lovely stay at The Deck House, the location is fabulous, only a few minutes from Beadnell Bay."

The house was clean & well equipped, we only slept in the king bed & it was very comfortable, the en-suite is a little tight but perfectly adequate, the main bathroom was very spacious though. We will definitely visit again.

  • "We have had a super week in Beadnell and the surrounding area."

The property is perfectly placed for the lovely quiet sandy beach 5 minutes from the house and the rocky wild shore round the corner towards Seahouses. The house was warm, clean and beautifully decorated and furnished. Everyone enjoyed the open plan living. We particularly liked the large wood burning stove on the cold evenings and appreciated the extra tennis rackets which enabled the adults and children to play tennis using both courts. Following on from other reviews I’ll just mention that for us there were plenty of cooking utensils, cutlery and pans and I didn’t notice any rips in the sofa. There were a couple of maintenance issues; one of the patio doors appeared to have a broken top hinge and needed very careful handling to be able to close and lock it; the shower in the main bedroom was slow to drain and the level kept rising (as noted in a review back in July 2022); the bed in the main bedroom was a bit lumpy and could be improved with a decent mattress topper or new mattress. There is a service box near the property which started to beep and a light flashed on top, this continued day and night for several days but there was no instruction on the box for if this occurred (someone mentioned this had happened to them back in January). The main bathroom door was hard to lock and unlock so we avoided locking!

  • "Lovely week in a stylish cottage."

We have stayed on this little holiday estate before so knew the location was amazing so near the beach. I was concerned about recent reviews re the cleanliness but they must have changed cleaners because it was fine…oven clean too! House is decorated nicely and kitchen great. These houses are expensive to stay in so a couple of suggestions: outdoor area could do with some work. It’s one of the only houses without an enclosed decking area so could be an issue for small children. Not for us. Garden furniture very heavy wood and not comfortable at all. This was a shame as we had amazing weather and it’s an afternoon sun trap. Yes there is building work going on next to it…didn’t bother us particularly and is a good 200m away. You can’t see much of it now as the houses in view are now built. Sometimes a strong smell coming from the main bathroom too. None of this would stop us coming back. It really is a lovely house and Beadnell a great village with a good pub, shop, new restaurant in car park, close to beach and dunes.

  • "Lovely family week away in beautiful Beadnell."

House is in a great location for family holiday. Despite the rainy weather we still managed beach days, trips to Bamburgh, Alnwick & Holy Island etc. walk to Low Newton for quick drink at The Ship Inn. Disappointed with fish & chips from Joiners Arms at Low Newton, but Trotters sandwich shop in Seahouses is always a family favourite. House is spacious & comfortable “ish” but fixtures & fittings in need of a little TLC, such as rip in sofa which are looking tired and worn, needs repairing/cleaning/replacing. Oven needs a deep clean, had to clean oven before putting food in it. Kitchen utensils need updating - no pizza cutter & can opener doesn’t work, dustpan is broken. Toilet flush sometimes doesn’t work and the en-suite shower sometimes doesn’t drain properly. Also, kitchen floor needed cleaning as looked like something had been spilt under the table and several cobwebs in places but especially on the high ceiling. As this property has a Sykes rating of 5 ticks and rating of 4.5 very good, we expected the property to be of a higher standard than what it was.

  • "We had an another really good time here returning for a second year."

Support in terms of local contact (couldn't find a key) was excellent. Love the layout and position. Fantastic place and the position near the beach, coastal path, harbour and the Landings could hardly be improved. Great to have a lock up for SUPs and bike. There are a few things which would need attention soon: 1. Lots of the toilet flushes are quite difficult to action 2. The settees are a little worn and in some cases have small tears. 3. Kitchen pots/pans and especially knives and cooking stuff just needs an update. 4. Dishwasher needs salt. Thanks again Jonathan

  • "We all felt the whole place was a bit tired and the settees in particular were not only very uncomfortable but grubby with stains."

The couple who stayed in the Double room saw dust on ornaments that hadn’t been cleaned in months, nor had the shutters. This was obviously down to the cleaning company, not the owners. The couple who stayed in the Kingsize room felt the ensuite was very small. The Shower in the otherwise huge bathroom was tiny. The whole design could have been much better. We were left only 1 toilet roll per toilet. We were 5 adults staying for a week and paying for a premium property. This is penny pinching. There was also no welcome pack which we have had on other properties in the past. It is the small things that count. The cloakroom light cord was broken so we had to find something to attach to it as it was too high to reach. Overall although the property is in a nice location, the design, comfort and attention to detail, would deter us from booking this property in the future.

  • "Amazing cottage, cant fault that one bit."

unfortunately, the septic tank wasn't working properly which tripped an alarm on the control box outside the house. This continued to sound all day and all night Friday to Thursday. I contacted the number on my booking info and reported the problem and sent a video of what was happening. the lady tried her best to contact the owners to sort out but nothing happened until the Thursday. I had been using the house for work purposes, commuting into Scotland and the borders so I didn't get a lot of sleep between starting early and finishing late. Apart from this the cottage was absolutely amazing and I will hopefully be booking this place in the Summer.

Once located and inside, the house was exactly as pictured on the website. The house is well equipped and was clean and comfortable. There really isn't anything negative to say. It was a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable week in a lovely home and I was sorry to leave. I would certainly recommend it to family and friends. My 5yr old grandsons rated it "the best holiday house ever", which is high praise indeed!

  • "Lovely house in a beautiful setting."

It was just lovely to be able to complete evening walks along the beach each night. (We were lucky to have fabulous weather all week.) Beadnell is absolutely perfect to visit all areas of Northumberland. Our favourite day was definitely a trip to the Farne Islands and we walked from Deck House to Seahouses along the coast road, which was just over 2 miles. A real find was Howick Hall Gardens. The house is great and we would certainly recommend it, but would benefit from a few additions. Cutlery was in extremely short supply, especially dessert spoons where there were only 6, which meant that cutlery always had to be washed after breakfast and couldn’t be put in the dishwasher. Also, there was no information about recycling so we had to just bin everything. (Each authority have different rules, so it would have been helpful to know what the system is here.) The bunk bed wasn’t particularly comfortable for adults, but would be perfect for children. The main two bedrooms were very comfortable and everywhere was clean. Also, this is the first holiday cottage we have stayed in that didn’t have a tourist folder with ideas about places to visit. Maybe it’s a COVID precaution but there was a Visitor’s book and a folder of appliance handbooks.

Window seat and bunkbed were a hit with our 4 year old, and we also enjoyed a knock around at the tennis courts (rackets are available in the house but you’ll need your own balls) House was rather dusty and could do with a more thorough clean as shutters and some sides had quite a build up of dust and a few cobwebs. Kitchen needed a wipe down before using as some sticky fingerprints on cupboard door and thick dust on cafetière didn’t give confidence that it had all been cleaned. Kitchen had plenty of glasses and mugs but could do with some more crockery/cutlery. Colourful plastic cutlery and plates etc was appreciated by our daughter. Good Tv and sound bar made watching a film on a cooler evening enjoyable too. Overall, a brilliant stay, a week wasn’t long enough and we would return.

The views are lovely from upstairs and the TV and Alexa are brilliant - it feels really comfortable and the WI-FI is really good. There was zero information about the property - apparently the information sheet has been removed - it really does need replacing as it’s not at all clear what you do with rubbish for example. Whilst pretty clean the property is in need of a deep clean - there was quite a lot of dust on the shutters and light fittings etc. The kitchen is fairly well equipped but the saucepans need replacing as the non stick coating is coming off them all (which is a bit of a health hazard!). More cutlery is needed and a cheese grater and ice cream scoop is also needed!! These things probably wouldn’t stop me going back but for the price I think they need resolving. We had one or two issues with a leaking loo and a broken door hinge but these things were resolved impressively quickly when I called Sykes.

About the location

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
