We would have given it a 10 out of 10 score if it hadn't been for the settees which found a little uncomfortable & the lack of underlay under the upstairs carpets, which meant you heard every footstep.

  • "The house was a nice size for our group (4 adults, 3 children) and is beautifully located within a short walk to Beadnell Bay."

Linen, towels and necessities (toilet roll, soap etc) were provided as well as a lovely welcome pack. Plus WiFi and a Netflix Account available to use. A couple of things frustrated us over our stay. The floorboards upstairs were extremely creaky (we all have the odd creaky floorboard but these were significantly noisy). This made getting our 1 year old to sleep, and ensuring we didn't wake him walking around the house quite difficult. And whilst the house was clean, it was clear that under the sofa's hadn't been swept prior to our arrival as there quite a bit of dust and dog hair under the sofas. Which, in times of Covid was rather frustrating. The location (so close to the beach) was the real benefit of the property.

We were greeted with a lovely card and welcome pack. The house was spotless and had everything we needed. Kitchen was well equipped, including cleaning materials. We were thrilled to find an Iron and ironing board as we were there for a family wedding. Living/dining area was spacious for 4 adults plus 3 children aged 7 to 13. Would we go back? Definitely. It's in a beautiful part of the country and well located. Even spotted a pair of thrushes in the garden!

  • "We had a lovely family weekend away, spending quality time with my granddaughter."

We found Bar Harbour to be very comfortable, it was warm despite the very windy outside. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of dishcloths and tea towels. There were dishwasher tablets left and a nice little welcome pack. There were dog bowls for our two poodles who loved the back garden which was very nicely enclosed, with high close boarded fencing. The beds were the best I have slept in at a holiday rental in some time. I could actually sleep and wasn't balanced on hardboard. Everything was working as it should, and a nice little touch was the lovely bamboo children's' ware in the kitchen, although to be honest I wouldn't expect a holiday cottage owner to provide such things. We had plenty of hot water and my granddaughter loved a splash about in the bath. If you had forgotten any toiletries there were plenty in the bathroom. A really nice touch. We would stay here again and nothing was too much trouble for the owner, although there was nothing to contact her about once we had arrived. Its a short walk to the beach, and Beadnell beach is wonderful for walking your dog although my memories are of sailing there in my boat as a child. Its not far to Seahouses and Bamburgh or Amble.

  • "Love the village, accommodation disappointing, the house would benefit from a good clean, very grubby in most rooms, beds were extremely uncomfortable, various lights wouldn’t work (kitchen under counter, outside front door), all bedroom floors were very noisy, not good with small children."

Kitchen extraction fan not working very cold in kitchen due to gale blowing through the fan. Bath leaked and came through living room ceiling. Will not be returning to this property in a hurry..

  • "The location was great & the welcome pack was a lovely touch."

The house itself was good and well stocked with cleaning materials etc. Unfortunately we found the house to be very grubby eg we found large ‘dust bunnies’ in the main bedroom between the bed & bedside table, the toaster looked as if it hadn’t been emptied for a while, bathrooms needed a good scrub, downstairs floors and bath tub were dirty and had to be cleaned by us. The instruction folder only had 3 pages of information in it. Instructions were found in the kitchen drawer but were loose and not very helpful. There were plenty of glasses, adequate crockery but nothing suitable for children (although there was dog bowls available). Cookware was adequate but the oven trays were rusty. Kitchen drawers were filled with ‘clutter’ and the dishwasher handle was held together with tape. The floors were very creaky – especially annoying as we had toddlers with us and we were trying to be quiet! We have stayed with Sykes Cottages many times and this house is the worse one for cleanliness we have stayed in.

Thank you for your feedback Your comments are very out of character for this property. The cleanliness scores are always 100% The property is very well stocked and the owner has taken onboard the comments regarding the instruction booklet. It may have been moved by another Customer. They are aware of some of the floors being creaky and they are resolving this. Thank you for the other issues that you raised, the owner is aware of these We would always encourage Customers to get in touch with the owner during the holiday if there are any issues. We can then ensure that they are sorted out for your during the stay. Property Owner

The house is in a super location for the beach with just a short walk to lovely sands. It has a safe and enclosed garden for children and dogs to play in and is very spacious with plenty of room for larger families. Bar Harbour is clean, comfortable and a real home from home although some of the lounge furniture is now in need of replacing. The TV could maybe do with an upgrade to something with a USB port as we like to watch films if the weather is inclement as it was. But barring them the property was excellent, plenty of room and comfortable, good location for the beach and close to other attractions. The owner answered our queries quickly and efficiently.

Well stocked and welcoming. Plenty of space and good facilities. Also kitchen cold tap has some kind of airlock/valve issue so sounds awful when used.

Bar Harbour is very clean, comfortable and has everything you need to make your holiday relaxing. The weather was a little chilly and we used the central heating for the first time but we found we could control it easily and it heated up the house quickly. The garden is fully enclosed and safe for the dogs and the children. We cqn`t praise the house enough and have already booked to return in August which we are really looking forward to. Perfect for a quiet getaway. Ideally located just down the road from Seahouses and Bamburgh and a short drive to Holy Island and Alnwick. The house itself had everything we could need and was very comfortable. Completely secure back garden, perfect for children and dogs. The only problem we encountered was being unable to regulate the shower in the main bathroom, but no biggie as we just used the en-suite. An outside light over the back garden would have been useful too. A welcome bottle of wine and biscuits was a lovely touch! Would thoroughly recommend Bar Harbour and if we make plans to come back to Northumberland, wouldn't hesitate to book here again.

You do not need these it has absolutely everything, even down to packets of dog poo bags. I would say this was a lovely experience and I was joined by some family members who had suffered a bereavement and even they said it had cheered them up and they were grateful we invited them. The beach is a stones throw, rabbits pheasants and even geese are walking around the estate. You will not be disappointed, Go to Newton by the sea, a lovely day out, and the Joiners Arms for food was amazing, far better than the Craster Arms.

It was ideal for us as we were all attending a wedding at nearby Newton Hall and had adults and kids. Great for dog walkers and close to numerous good pubs and restaurants. The house has all the facilities you need and for the four of us there was plenty of room. It would feel crowded for a party of eight. The kitchen is small but well equipped and there is one reception room, a decent lounge diner. Fixtures and fittings were a little basic and we found the bed a touch soft for our liking but we still slept ok. The only real negative was the noisy flooring upstairs, it creaks and bangs no matter how light footed you are and any light sleeper is woken up by any movement. It really could do with a look at. Having said that we had a good stay here, WiFi is excellent and the owner was very helpful. Good enclosed garden if you have dogs. House was clean and fresh.

About the location

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
