  • "Lovely house but could do with a proper clean, dog hairs on all over the house (we didn’t take a dog) wash basins not very clean in some of the bathrooms, bin in bathroom still had rubbish in from previous visitors."

Extractor fan in kitchen covered in dust with messages written on, also I presume from a past guest. The fence in the garden was broken down and had been propped up with garden furniture, when the man delivered the hot tub he spent time repairing it for us Overall we enjoyed our stay, good location for visiting local sites.

Thanks for your feedback. All of your points have been addressed. It is unusual for the maintenance team to leave the house as you point out. They have addressed this so my apologies. I have no control over the hot tub and this is a facilty provided if guests request them so I can only add beware when ordering this extra. The area suffered high winds which has been an issue this year. It was renewed in the autumn following a similar occurrence but not the part that you mentioned. This has been addressed but obviously not while you were there. Pleased you enjoyed your stay though and I hope you will do so again Alan Hynd Owner Property Owner

The location is great and so many lovely walks and beaches to explore. Great dog friendly pubs. Lots of castles to visit. Pleased to see the owner has acted on providing larger cereal bowls and a better selection of glasses. Maybe could think about providing a few more cooking dishes and microwave dishes. For those people that may be put off by some of the previous petty comments, don’t be. Not many properties would do that well with Four in a Bed style inspections. We are already booked up for next November. Pete

It’s a good size and upstairs is nice, beds comfy ,en suites and bathroom fine only downside no dressing tables for the ladies of group, downstairs the kitchen room is looking tired, the sofa is looking very grubby and past it’s best, kitchen is fine and dining area is ok, however when we arrived we encountered a few minor problems, there was a broken cup and broken whisk(unusable fell apart as no handle on ) scissor handle broken, batteries in tv remote not working ,some left in drawer, all dead , had to buy some to enable use of the TV .No washing line,or pegs,no coat hangers in two bedrooms we had to share the few that where in other two ,worked out we had approx 4 for each Bedroom. The Main lounge is okay but blinds missing .unfortunately the television is ridiculous size, tiny,in wrong place cannot be watched by people sitting at far end of room ,does need a larger tv and if possible put on wall above fire if not would need rethink. .the house is in a great position ,literally a 5 minute walk to the beach. This could be an amazing house just needs regular checks of amenities and some TLC. ,these are such minor things but spoil the stay and wouldn’t take long to sort out ,

I am rather surprised at some of your comments. There is a contact number for the maintenance team at the house and a call to them would have sorted your minor issues I take on board your comments regarding the TV but its never been an issue with other guests nor has the issue regarding dressing tables. The kitchen has only recently had the fridge freezer renewed also. Your positive comments were much appreciated Alan Hynd Owner Property Owner

  • "Sandy Shore is a 4 bed house on a small estate in Beadnell."

We had a party of 4 and although upstairs there is lots of space, due to the design of the house (with a double garage encroaching on downstairs) downstairs space is limited. I wouldn’t have wanted to be there with a party of 8! Overall, it’s a nice house, but it really needs to be given a good inspection and going over as there are things that could be easily fixed and made better for guests. For instance, the house has martins nesting in the eaves. No issue with that, but shouldn’t the bird droppings be cleaned up before guests arrive? It would take 2 minutes. The outdoor seating shown on the photos was stacked around the side of the house. As these were the only seats with back rests to sit outside, we fetched them back around the back of the house to use. Yes they need small repairs to the backrests - a 5 minute job to a competent handy man. The dining table in the main area is too big to fit in with the new fridge freezer. We turned it around to make more space. The separate lounge had a light standing in front of the TV when we arrived! We moved it to a corner of the room. It needed an extension lead to enable it to stand where it is shown on the pictures. The standard of cleaning was superficial - check the top of anything and you will find thick dust (E.g. the fridge freezer, top shelves in wardrobes). There are only 2 glass breakers, but lots of wine glasses and mugs. Plenty of cutlery and crockery. The windows are very stiff to open - again, a few minutes maintenance would sort this out. The beds are comfortable, but one of the singles has a double socket and the switch for the outside light right next to the pillow. I would not want a child in that bed. Paintwork could do with a general refresh. A little weeding of the paved areas wouldn’t go amiss. There are no oven gloves in the kitchen. So - don’t get me wrong. This is a nice house, but could be top notch with a little thought, time and effort. I have given it 4 out of 5 which is generous. I hope these comments are taken in the positive manner intended and used to make Sandy Shore a 5 star property.

Thanks for your comprehensive feedback. I will be actioning most of your points. The house martin issue is a difficult one but I will raise the cleaning with the maintenance team Don't understand the outdoor seating, I thought that it had been renewed so that is an urgent issue along with the glasses (they were notified about this before your arrival. • "Stayed in area for last 10 years, comparing houses this one feels tired and unloved."

Garden and location great but as family of 7 only 3 glasses that weren't for wine, bought our own washing line. Biggest concern was grass cutting team just let themselves in while our two teenage daughters at home alone with dog. No knock to door? Appreciate number of houses teams clean but never had a check in as late as 5pm before so really only paying for 6 days. Love area and will keep going back but not to this house unless some money spent bringing it into 21st century.

Sorry to hear your comments anonymous (as per your request) and that you never had a check in as late as 5 pm but thats the rules set by my housekeeping team and if thats a real issue please take it up with Sykes. With regard to the grass cutting the contractors and their predecessors have carried out the work since the property was let. Their work is outdoors and they have no need to contact residents and many properties to attend to. I have no issue with this. With regard to bringing the property up to 21 st century quite a considerable amount has been spent recently and the last three reviews gave the property 100/100 and my overall rating is excellent. I would love you to give it another try at Sandy Shore but perhaps you need to ask Sykes if they have any super luxurious properties. Alan Hynd Owner Property Owner

Requested a high chair and travel cot from the owners and even though they weren’t listed they were happy to provide-both in great condition. Disappointing that the 4 foot double bed was not available as per our booking and was actually a twin room, this was not our agreement. During COVID times there should have been soap at all the hand basins and a towel(s) in the downstairs loo. We didn’t have heating or hot water from 10.30am until approx. 4pm on NY day. There should be instructions on how to reset the boiler, which we did when we finally got to speak to someone. Lots of instructions do this don’t do that! Taking all glass recycling home is ridiculous, lucky I knew where the bottle bank is, why don’t you provide this location information if no bins are available at the house? A dressing table is required in the master bedroom, nowhere to put cosmetics/toiletries other than in the wardrobe. Location is great and quiet and beds were comfortable, garden is secure and a good size. All kitchen facilities are available and well stocked but would benefit from a larger fridge for 8 people. Two parking spaces but also room on the street for the other two.

Thank you for your feedback.I am pleased to report that the website description of the fourth bedroom has now been amended. I believe the porch light requires attention which it now has been. Don't understand the heating issue because it is reliable and serviced regularly but I am pleased that you eventually resolved this with my maintenance team. The first visit being in 2019. The house was clean and tidy on arrival and it was nice to see some things resolved since our last last visit. It is a wonderful location only 5 minutes walk to a lovely beach and coastline. Generally the house is well stocked with crockery and kitchen utensils. Could do with some larger cereal bowls. Also some slotted serving spoons (for deep frying) The furniture in the lounge is not set up to accommodate 8 people together and would benefit with more seating capacity. Also a lack of small side tables. We used the stools from the kitchen. The Craster Arms is a nice pub only about 15 - 20 mins on foot. The food we had was nice but they have a very restricted menu compared to 2 years ago and a lot more expensive. It would be useful to have the owner’s / cleaners contact details in the information pack. On our last night there was a severe storm with gale force winds which caused extensive damage to the garden fences. Also there had been a power cut throughout the last night and into the morning we left. We would have liked to have given advance warning of the storm damage as the house was fully booked up through November and December. We have already booked again for next November so would obviously recommend this property and location.

Some of the dishes not particularly clean. Especially frying pans which were very greasy. Very little cleaning products. No brushes or a hoover. Tiny drops of left in bottles. 1 Jay cloth, one wee green scrub thing. 1 dish towel that was very old and looked like a floor cloth. Nothing to clean bathrooms. I really don’t think that people staying in this house should have to bring cleaning things with them. After all we are paying a lot of money to stay in the property. Surely it makes sense to have all these things available ? Especially as we are all still living with Covid? Pillows on bed so very thin and some badly marked!!!! Kitchen itself is very small for the size of the house with very little work surface for preparing food. Fan in en-suite not working. The front of the property also needed a good sweep and weeded as doesn’t look very welcoming. Not enough hot water for showers as it would run cold !!!!!!!

Sorry you had so many problems which are very unusual bearing in mind previous and subsequent guest comments. There are no ongoing problems with hot water and the drive is weeded regularly Regarding your other comments, we have an emergency line number in the property, by calling this my maintenance team could have been given a chance to deal with these issues. In regards to supplies in the property, this is a self catering holiday let and only a minimum of products are supplied, but again if you would have let us know at the time we would have tried to resolve any issues during your stay. The house contained very few cooking pots, in fact there were only 3 saucepans and 1 really small frying pan, which made it impossible to cook for our group and would have been even worse if there were 8 people in the house. In fact we had to go out and spend £20 on a large frying pan (which we left in the house for future visitors) in order to do a lot of dishes like stir fries etc. where something like a wok is required. This fact has repeatedly been mentioned in the Guest Book at the house by other visitors but it would seem the owners have taken no notice of this. One would expect when spending over £1,500 for a week's rental that adequate cooking pans should be provided. 2. A shortage of bowls and serving dishes. There were some very small cereal bowls but no bowls of other sizes. 3. In the Visitor's Book quite a few people have mentioned about a BBQ being provided, this would have been very useful.

A number of recessed light fittings in the bathrooms have dropped with wires showing. Also no instructions for the heating which seemed to have a separate thermostat / system for downstairs. We got something to happen but instructions would have been useful. The biggest issue for us was the lack of hot water. Quite a few cold showers between the four of us, and the second en suite shower was unusable as it seemed blocked. We never got water out of the kitchen taps which was hot enough to wash up in, had to boil a kettle to do this. All of these issues are mentioned in the 'Guest' book so we are not the first to suffer which is disappointing as they could have been sorted out. It was also not wonderfully clean. It looked ok but there was loads of dust/debris down the side of the wardrobe and on divan base ( found when pushing mattress against headboard) in master bedroom. Also in crevices on sofas, skirting boards etc. Sounds picky but this was not a 'cheap' let and the issues were numerous enough to make it feel poor value for money.

There was even a landline telephone that could be used for a small donation. The WiFi connection was very good, a bonus, as mobile signal wasn't the best. The kitchen/diner was large and clean with a washing machine and dishwasher, unfortunately the tumble dryer, in the garage, didn't work. This wasn't an urgent matter as the weather was warm, but it would have been handy for drying toddler/baby clothes. The garden was great for children to play in, but it could have accommodated a rotary airer, as well as the internal airer, which helped. We had a lovely week in Beadnell, it is within easy access of all the lovely places on the Northumbrian coast that we wanted to visit, from Craster up to Holy Island, plus Beadnell Bay is only a few minutes walk from the house and was great for children to play in the sea, or rock pooling when the tide was out. We would recommend 'Sandy Shore' as a lovely comfortable base to explore this beautiful area.

Had to report it to maintenance people who tried to resolve it as soon as they could. The light in the en suite did not get repaired until our last day but we were able to use other facilities. Nothing was too much trouble for the maintenance firm and felt they tried to resolve as soon as they could. The house was lovely and warm to come back to after being out all day (in October). Well equipped. Very easy to get to beach with small children. The only constructive criticism is that if a dog is on the holiday - the garden really needs either a security light or a light that can be switched on at the back door. Once the dog goes out the door in the evening (October onwards), it cannot be seen all round the garden or where it chooses to toilet ! It is a large garden which is wonderful for the dog but not so good next morning when you have to cover it all 'poo picking' Would definitely recommend to others.

However, when we came to test the lights on our return to the house they still did not function properly. 2) The information pack (about the house) was mostly in fact a summary of facilities in the surrounding locality. It would have been helpful if a summary of instructions re kitchen equipment, arrangements for bin collection, instructions re TV's and Wi-Fi could have been incorporated into one, handy information pack rather than scattered around in drawers or pinned to a cupboard door. The situation of the house just 5 minutes from the beach was great and I would happily return to Beadnell again. Plus any eating establishments we tried in the area provided excellent service and choice - in Beadnell itself at the Seasalt Café, at Alnmouth at the Sun Inn and at Craster at the main village pub.

  • "The location is great, we knew that in advance as we have stayed on Longbeach Drive before."

The house is very good. There were only four of us so we had bags of room as it sleeps 8 in four bedrooms. The garden is fully enclosed and all grass, nice and large so ideal for dogs. Internet worked seamlessly throughout our stay but the WiFi signal drops out in the main bedroom, not a major issue though. Two points to note. The shower in the back bedroom ensuite does not drain well and floods (it was only used once) it needs a look at. Secondly a chair or stool in the bedrooms would be good. Overall though we had a great time there, it’s a lovely place in a great setting. We would definitely stay at Sandy Shore again.

  • "Sandy Shore, is in a fantastic location and great base for walking and exploring the beautiful Northumberland coastline."

The house is of a good size for a family or group of friends. It could do with some larger pans to help when cooking for a larger number. And more tea spoons. The property could do with some deep cleaning in some areas. But is a good holiday house and would recommend.

It could have been cleaner. The sitting area in the kitchen could have more comfortable if the TV was on another wall. It would of been better if there had been a washing line to dry clothes on. More mirrors in the bedrooms.

About the location

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
