  • "Had a fantastic stay at Iona, the property is full of character and charm."

The place is spotlessly clean, comfortable and has everything you need. The area is really quiet and is only 100 yards from the walls on the mouth of the river tweed. If we come back to berwick, and I'm sure we will, we will definitely look to come back to this wonderful property

Dear Philip Thank-you for your great feedback. We are very happy that you had an excellent week here and you found Iona clean and comfortable which is so important to us. We hope you will return to enjoy Berwick again soon. Peter and Maureen Property Owner

  • "The holiday house exceeded our expectations in many ways."

It is set in the old quarter of Berwick, an unspoilt quiet spot just steps away from the wall walk, from where we could see the Northern Lights. The interior decor is good. It's cosy and there's everything you need for a week's stay. There's a permit for parking and plenty of free car parks in the vicinity. The owners make every effort to please. We had no problems finding a range of activities, from walking at St Abb's Head (where we saw a beach of seals!), visiting local cultural venues, visiting the Tapestry of Scotland to taking a train into Edinburgh for exhibitions.

Dear Janet Thank-you so very much for your feedback! We are delighted you had a wonderful week exploring Berwick and the surrounding area; We always endeavour to ensure you have a comfortable stay and glad it exceeded your expectations; our Housekeeper is excellent, taking so much pride in keeping Iona absolutely spotless. The weather ensured we got out all week to enjoy the historic town of Berwick-The house is perfectly situated for dining out, I particularly would recommend the Limoncello, Foxtons and Magna Indian, all 5 minutes walk away. • "'Iona' was an exceptionally beautiful house, with lots of historical interest, full of antique furniture, and yet supplied with modern conveniences!"

We all loved it, and my teenage son is already asking to return another year. (I think he enjoyed the luxury of a huge bed and a second television set!) There is plentiful parking outside and a parking permit is provided for the duration of your stay. I should add that we didn't feel the need to use our car at all while we were in Berwick-upon-Tweed: we walked around the local area and otherwise used trains and buses, which were much more frequent than where we live. (NB I would very strongly recommend bus rather than car for Lindisfarne! The car park there was jam-packed when we visited mid-week - and the bus timetable is specially adapted to fit in with the tides.) Berwick itself was a great place to stay, and although it has some of the mainstream supermarkets (Aldi, Morrison's, etc), it also has a number of charming, independent shops. We loved 'The Green Shop', which specialises in organic/fairtrade goods, and the fabulous 'Slightly Foxed' bookshop, while the things for sale in Jennie's Wool Studio made me wish I knitted more ... The owners are lovely and very helpful - they answered my queries rapidly, and provided milk, tea, coffee and biscuits in the property.

Dear Helen Thank-you so very much for your lovely feedback regarding both our property, Iona, and Berwick itself. I agree Berwick is a great place to stay with so much on offer for visitors. The Independent shops offer an eclectic mix of interesting crafts, art and antique shops to name but a few; the Green shop is truly amazing and the bookshop as you mention. Jennie's wool studio is definitely worth a visit or two for those who enjoy woolen crafts. Delighted your teenage son enjoyed his stay too and we hope you do return soon. Property Owner

  • "Property was fantastic very equipped lots of steps, which was as described but we hadn't realised that both bathrooms were in the lower half of property, our fault I'm sure."

Property temperature was set too low 11.5 meant the Property was just too cold we have all returned with colds. Berwick was very interesting town defences very impressive, we saw the annual curfew run, the first for 2 years thx to covid. Berwick is in need of a good clean up, town appeared a little unloved by the locals but some nice coffee shops and restaurants. Our landlords were very easy to speak withband the personal touch in the days leading up to our break were a lovely touch. 8.5/10 great break overall

Hi Nick Many thanks for your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you had a ‘great break’ giving 8.5/10 for our cottage, Iona. However, we were very sorry to read that you were unable to operate the heating system – it is a Nest and you just need to turn the dial to raise the temperature; it is not ‘set’ at any given temperature ie the fact that it was 11.5 degs means the previous guests had just turned the heating right down. We would have been very happy to talk you through this if you had contacted us; Peter and I enjoy having contact with guests if they have queries or are requesting recommendations as I mentioned prior to your holiday. We were also sad to read your comments as to the cleanliness of the town; the locals take great pride in their historic town, however during the summer months we do have tourists feeding sea gulls which is an issue in all coastal towns; but daily attention is given by the local council. There is a myriad of wonderful independent shops and cafes in Berwick with stunning walks, including the Elizabethan fortifications, which are all kept in immaculate condition; it does sound like you were able to enjoy these during your stay and we hope that you will return one day in the future. The only downside is that if you want a walk into town, the shops can be far away. I would recommend doing an online for shop when you arrive. The area was very quiet and the property is definitely a home from home. It was nice to have a separate dining room with the sitting room upstairs. The bedrooms were comfortable and everything was in place to ensure a safe stay with the current government guidelines due to Covid 19.

Many thanks for your lovely comments, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay in Iona. Just to clarify, the local shops: the Butchers, Bakers, Stationer's, Pharmacy, Organic store and many, many more, are 2 minutes walk from Iona. The supermarkets however are situated a 3-5 minute drive from the property.' Best wishes Property Owner

Berwick is a lovely place, we enjoyed walking along the walls and the view across the sea. Lots of history. Good selection of shops, tearooms and restaurants nearby, also supermarkets to get food and essentials to enjoy in the house. We visited beautiful beaches at nearby Seahouses, Eyemouth, Burnmouth, Newton- on-sea, there are numerous along the stunning coastline. Also many castles to visit in this area.
