  • "What a lovely cottage."

Warm and cosy for our new year stay with enough space for us and our walking gear. Very well equipped kitchen with a decent oven and plenty of space for us to cook when we wanted to. Close enough to local amenities whilst being quiet and peaceful. We were even lucky with the weather. Highly recommended.

However, Dorothy organised our 1 load of washing and deserves a god star for combatting a load of smelly, sweaty cricket kit.

  • "Brian’s cottage is lovely and comfortable and ideal as a family holiday home - we stayed with our daughter, son in law and grandson."

Everything we needed was included in the cottage. There are a variety of supermarkets in Alnwick with Aldi, Lidl, Sainsburys and M&S Food plus local food store Turnbulls being on this side of Alnwick. It is central to many places and attractions. Thank you to Dorothy and Brian who made us feel very welcome. Will be returning to stay sometime.

  • "Brians Cottage at Bilton Barns Farm is well located for the Northumbrian coast."

Many walks can be joined from the cottage. The local busses stop near the end of the lane. We even caught the train to Edinburgh from the station just a 10min drive from the cottage. The owner and family are all very friendly and we will certainly be staying again. Thanks Dorothy for making us feel very welcome. Paul and Margaret

the location was perfect for visiting local places such as Bambrough castle, Alnwick gardens, Holy Island, Seahouses and the Farne islands. will visit again and hopefully next time it will be warmer. shortly after we arrived the owner came along to tell us that she would be on hand in the farmhouse if we required anything.

  • "We had a lovely week at Brian's cottage."

Everything that we needed was there. Friendly welcome and very helpful owners who lived on the farm where the cottages were based. There are 3 cottages and like the idea of booking more than 1 and have friends visiting at the same time. Close to amenities and you must visit Strawberry Lounge at Alnwick which is only about 4 miles away - all home made food and the scone selection is amazing. Looking forward to another stay here. Thanks you

  • "Hi- We had a great time."

Please award a gold star to the Jacksons. Super welcome, very friendly, cottage clean and comfortable. Downstairs toilet would have made it perfect for elderly and disabled. We had a power cut, lasting over 2 days. Dorothy and Brian could not do enough for us - candles, torches, even helped out with the cooking. The wood-burner was a life saver. But wait for it - they wanted us to stay for a further 2 days and we would have but we had appointments (a concert in Manchester). So, the extra mile - brill. Regards Dave Walker

The cottage was clean and cosy with a beautiful addition of a Christmas tree! The cottage is in a great location to explore Northumberland too; we enjoyed trips to Bamburgh Castle & beach, Alnmouth beach and The Old School Gallery, shops and cafes in Alnwick and Warkworth Castle and beach. Would highly recommend a stay here :)

Love the place and cottage is well equipped and comfortable. Please be aware though that this is on a working farm and at the time we were there (Late August) there was a lot of activity with farm machines working till late. This was not a problem for us but just to be aware of if you have young light sleepers choose your timing wisely.

It is in an ideal situation close to the coast and Alnwick. There were 3 supermarkets only 10 minutes away for food shopping and the proximity of the A1 means that that lots of interesting places are within easy reach. The area around the cottage was very peaceful and we heard no noise from the adjoining buildings. The owner was very nice and helpful. We had an excellent holiday and would definitely return.

It was ideal for a long awaited family holiday and our grandson (20 months) was thrilled by the tractors and farm equipment. The cottage is ideal for exploring the Northumberland coast and very comfortable to come back to. It is very well equipped with plenty of space ant the washer/dryer and dishwasher were a boon. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and allowing our grandson to sit in the cab of a tractor was the highlight of his trip! It also made us all realise just how hard farmers work. Thank you to Dorothy, Brian & family for a lovely stay.

  • "Location excellent."

Well positioned for beaches and places to visit. 10 minutes from Alnwick. Cottage has rugged farmhouse style furniture and fittings. Minimal ornaments. This made it perfect for 3 children aged 5 to 11 allowing us to relax and not worry about things getting broken. Cottages are well built as no sound from neighbours. We checked and our kids had not been heard! Beautiful location on farm. Owners friendly and approachable. Garden large and secure for kids. Overall excellent. The score of 7 has nothing to do with this excellent property. It was due to Sykes not offering customers refunds during lockdown. Remember customers are your business without them you do not exist.

It was very comfortable and was bigger than expected. It was well equipped with all home comforts. It was quiet and peaceful and although it was the middle terrace it was so sturdily built we were not aware of any noise from the neighbours. It was well positioned for sightseeing although it was in a rural location. The big town of Alnwick was nearby with several supermarkets. We would recommend the accommodation and the back bedrooms had a distant sea view. Unfortunately, the weather was not warm enough to sit outside for meals but there was a barbecue and a large table and chairs on the well kept lawn.We were welcomed by the owners daughter when we arrived and she was very helpful. Leaflets about attractions were provided.

  • "Bilton Barns is a good place to stay."

Very quiet secluded location with easy access to any of the areas of the Northumberland coastline. A good size lounge and dining kitchen, upstairs three good size bedrooms and two good bathrooms. My only criticism would be that the cottage would benefit from some updating, the furniture and lounge carpet are showing signs of age and use, and one of the bed mattresses could certainly benefit from being replaced. Overall though, for the price we paid, I would recommend the property for a couple or family.

Dorothy and Brian were very welcoming and were available if any problems had arisen. My grand children loved playing in the safe lawn area, where they made friends with the children from another cottage, and interested to watch the barley being harvested and stored in the barn.

  • "Our holiday in Brian's Cottage was good and as expected from the description on Sykes' website."

However, the Bilton's Barns' own website (dated 2015) needs updating - still shows bunk beds for Brian's Cottage and the fact that towels are not provided, which is not the case. Lots of information within the cottage showing footpaths and other places to visit. Well stocked kitchen. Owners are very obliging if there are any problems.
