  • "We had a relaxing stay in a lovely county, based in a stylish and quirky cottage."

Owners Jo and Gordon are welcoming and engaging hosts; the cottage is tastefully furnished with good quality fittings and a fun "snug"; and nearby villages (e.g Bellingham) and towns (e.g. Jedburgh, Peebles) are full of character (and good places to eat out). The hot tub was easy to work and a very relaxing; with lovely views across the rolling countryside. The resident cats are also cute....so indulge yourself and chill out there!

  • "Comfortable, quaint cottage with idyllic views."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owners were very friendly and keen to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. We loved evenings in front of the open fire after a relaxing soak in the hot tub. The gin snug was a lovely, unusual addition and a peaceful place to curl up with a book and a G&T. Never having visited Northumberland before, we were taken aback by the stunning scenery on our sightseeing travels. There's so much to see and do in the area. We would definitely like to come back!

The cottage is outstanding and a credit to the owners, who have created a home from home, with very high standard decor and comfort, and who were very friendly and welcoming (even though the cottage is an extension of the owners house, we didn't know they were there). Extremely peaceful and relaxing surroundings, with amazing views both in the day and at night being in the dark sky park. We would love to go back and highly recommend it.

Our hosts Gordon and Joanne were lovely and a fountain of knowledge which was great. If you really want to get away from it all this is the place for you. Can seriously recommend a glass of bubbly in the hot tub under the stars, the like of which we have never seen. We will be back

The owners (Joanne and Gordon) were very attentive (even though they were on holiday themselves) and kept in contact by text until we met them in person at the end of our stay. Very comfortable. Loved the little secret snug/ gin room ( which I had forgotten about- but then my husband discovered it. ) Everything was perfect. Loved the location- so quiet, and loved seeing the lambs and sheep that surrounded the property. Lovely places to walk literally on your doorstep- which Gordon told us about. Joanne and Gordon were just wonderful hosts - always going the extra mile to make their guests truly welcome. Loved the hot tub and the dark skies. Can’t recommend enough. Just to be aware- Nearest shop is in the next village. No big supermarket nearby and also no Petrol stations in the immediate vicinity. Make sure you have plenty of fuel. Dawn & Steve

Had a fantastic break here (in strange times) and had lovely walks, visited great castle and lovely beaches, also able to pop to Scotland for lunch. Loved the hot tub too, watching sun sets and the stars whenever we wanted. Highly recommended! Would like to mention that sykes does make it incredibly difficult to make contact. We're fairly switched on, but various attempts to find telephone numbers or contact details were directed to their terms and conditions. Were helpful if were able to make contact with anyone. However, cottage superb.

  • "The cottage is very cosy."

Everything is good quality and there is enough of what you need. I have been to a lot of places with log fires, this was the first where I didn't have to worry about buying extra logs or coal, it's all supplied. The owners live in the adjoining house, it was a bit odd that the hot tub was in their bit but after a chat we were made to feel very welcome to use it at any time of night. It is actually very private and secluded so no issues. The owners are very friendly, we felt anything would be sorted if needed. They are a credit. The weather was awful yet we had the most relaxing stay. It says something about a place when it is like that.

  • "As already stated by other guests, Petty Knowes Cottage is just perfect, as was our stay there."

We particularly enjoyed listening to music in the evening - with a glass of wine or two- in the 'secret', cosy snug. And the hot tub, with amazing views, was one of the best we've used. Joanne and Gordon were the perfect hosts, extremely friendly, helpful and informative, yet unobtrusive. What made the stay even more perfect was the that the cottage is in an area steeped in history. Not only is it sitting just outside the footprint of a Roman auxiliary fort, there's also a Roman cremation burial ground almost at the bottom of the garden! We'll definitely be returning!
