  • "Very nice property, has everything that you need."

The location is central to everything that you need. Being pet friendly was a plus. We head up north every other year, and this place was a nice find

We loved our stay in the cottage it was just my son his little fav & me as I lost my husband end of June to cancer it gave us a much needed break after being a carer for 18 months cottage was lovely odd cobweb or two did not bother us needed a fire lit at night as chilly in lounge only a small radiator would stay here again

  • "Excellent property."

Comfortable, very clean, well equipped. Owner provided lots of extras, bread, milk, eggs, choc brownies. Lovely watching rabbits in the garden early morning. Would highly recommend.

  • "Lovely accommodation."

Fresh milk and eggs and some delicious brownies were there to greet us on our arrival too. A great location with easy access to many different places to visit. We had a lovely relaxing holiday and would definitely recommend Whinney Moor as being a great place to stay.

  • "Wow! How do I describe Northumberland and Whinney Moor itself with only a maximum of 5 stars?"

It was an incredible holiday experience and my wife and I cannot wait to return in years to come. We were so thrilled by Whinney Moor, both saying that it would be a dream home to actually live in all year round. It was so relaxing, extremely well equipped and really thoughtfully presented by the owner, there was not a single thing that needed improvement or adding. It was such a treat, after our initial long journey, for the owner to have kindly left bread, chocolate cakes and a large jug of fresh milk for our arrival. Thank you so much! Northumberland is magnificent and in conclusion, in my opinion, the Sykes cottages description of Whinney Moor does not go far enough to explain what a magnificent holiday home this really is. 5 stars plus âž•

Oh David thank you so much, it was a pleasure to have you to stay and I really appreciate your lovely comments. I very much hope to welcome you back to a whinney moor again. Lindsay Property Owner

  • "Excellent accommodation."

Couldn't really fault it. Easy access to coast and Alnwick. Doubt whether one could find anything better.

  • "Good location for visiting the local attractions and coastline."

A compact property quiet with little or no noise.. Probably best for a younger couple with children as we found the seating either too low in the lounge or too high in the kitchen. The owner was very helpful regarding a couple of problems and with our experience in running holiday cottages we made a few suggestions to her as to perhaps enhancing guests holiday experience.

  • "A good welcome pack much appreciated."

A door mat would not go amiss, frightened of trailing dirt on to the carpets. No egg cups! and no wooden utensils to stop scratching pans! Bedrooms rather tight. All in all a good base to visit Northumberland.

Oh I’m so sorry to read your review and the items you missed during your stay at Whinney Moor, if you had let me know during your stay I’d absolutely have brought them to you and resolved the issue. I have now put egg cups and wooden utensils into the cottage and appreciate the feedback. Property Owner

  • "We have just enjoyed a fabulous week at Whinney Moor Cottage!"

It was even better than expected from looking at the photos. Easy to find and close to the lovely town of Alnwick, it is a perfect base from which to explore the many unspoiled beaches. It is a very well kept, clean accommodation with comfy beds, gorgeous bath and a large TV practically in every room. The cottage is detached, (great when you have a dog that barks!) excellently maintained and we had milk, eggs, bread and brownies left for us which was so kind. Thank you!

  • "Loved our stay here, it had everything we needed and more."

It felt isolated, but it wasn’t far away from all the shops and facilities needed. I would certainly recommend and are very likely to re visit.

  • "Whinney Moor is ideally situated to one of the most beautiful parts of the country."

All the essential grocery shops are within easy access. The property itself is well equipped in terms of electrical white goods, not.to mention the four large televisions ! It was good to arrive to milk tea and chocolate brownies ! Very much appreciated, thank you.. Comfortable beds and well appointed bathroom but only ONE toilet in the property ( integral to the bathroom!). Easy to overlook when reading the accommodation details! I would suggest there should be more basic kitchen equipment as the accommodation as it is intended for four people: 0nly two saucepans, and one large glass bowl is hardly sufficient. Plastic microwave dishes rather than having to turn on the oven especially cooking for two people would be energy efficient.

Very spacious cottage, very comfortable bed, excellent TVs and kitchen. The owner was very helpful in resolving a glitch with the shower. Wi-Fi worked well in the lounge but was virtually non existent in the main bedroom. Overall, we loved the cottage which made for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

  • "Beautifully presented, clean and all white goods new and in good working order."

The surprise provision of bread, milk and eggs was a really lovely gesture which made us feel welcome. The accommodation could not be faulted although a salad spinner in the kitchen together with a coat hook on the bathroom door and a shelf for toiletries would have been useful. The siting of the accommodation was super and quiet, though only less than ten minutes from Alnwick where there is a Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons, Lidl, not forgetting Alnwick Castle and a plethora of shops, restaurants, take-aways etc., and fuel services The junction with the A1 is equally convenient. It is the best rented accommodation we have ever had. If it was nearer, (we are 360 miles away) we would be booking it more often! Christopher and Christine Jones

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
