  • "We had a lovely stay."

It was very quiet and we were not disturbed. It was a lovely touch to have biscuits, milk, tea and coffee available on arrival. The property was well appointed and had everything we needed for our weeks stay- we only went out to walk the dog (as we have visited that area of Northumberland numerous times before) plus the weather was typical for February. If going in colder times of the year I would advise to take a couple days supply of wood and kindling- (starter pack is provided) more can be picked up in Bellingham. Due to spending most of the days in the cottage relaxing and reading, the owner altered the heating times for us. We found the sofas very comfortable, facilitating a relaxed and comfortable stay. The views were lovely. The garden was a nice relaxing place to sit or just walk around- nice to see that it was left to take its natural course in winter. We left recharged and refreshed- highly recommend.

The peace and quiet is delightful. The beds are very comfortable and the nature garden is a delight. The only little niggle is that the upper window in the back window in the living room doesn’t fit properly. This was particularly noticeable during Storm Nigel! The whole situation of the house is perfect in beautiful country and within reach of many places of interest.

  • "The cottage was lovely apart from the damp and mould in the living room and the garden was quite overgrown (as someone who enjoys gardening this did spoil my enjoyment of the garden)."

We didn't realise there were apartments nearby, the listing sounded like it was on its own. Other than birds, sheep and rabbits we didn't see any wildlife such as red squirrels or badgers which we thought were plentiful from the listing. The location is great for exploring but the damp and mould in the room has put us off coming again. If any family members had asthma this would have been a real problem. The owner was very helpful in putting the heating on when I contacted her which we were grateful for.

Thank you for your feedback. The garden is a wildlife garden which means at certain times of the year we are unable to keep it as neat and tidy as a normal garden would be kept. Your visit unfortunately coincided with one of these times as it was caterpillar and dragonfly hatching season. The wet summer has meant that the garden has grown a lot! Much more than normal. The wildlife is there, badgers and red squirrels live in the drive and are often spotted by myself and the local farmers. I'm sorry you didn't see them, but they are shy creatures and cannot be produced on demand. The other residents who share the drive are all there to enjoy the tranquility of the area and there are never any problems with noise. The alcove window in the living room is always colder than the rest of the room which occasionally causes a problem when warm air hits the cold wall, it is something that we are actively looking for a solution to. The 150 year old cottage is a beautiful holiday home which anyone would be lucky to visit. Property Owner

Stunning views from every window. Downstairs bath very spacious and great for a good soak. Pub very near in Greenhaugh and Bellingham is a lovely place to explore. All in all a fantastic holiday and a residence I would like to return to at some time in the future. Highly recommended. (After entering the code I found the key safe very difficult to open and in the end resorted to using a coin to lift the cover to the keys.)

  • "Lovely location, friendly caretaker - sorted heating and hot water quickly when requested."

Would have preferred to be able to control heating ourselves as we got too hot at times. Peaceful and remote area. Beds very comfy, however sofas are dated and uncomfortable. Multi fuel burner not big enough to heat the size of room. Needs a mop and bucket in the wet room and some oven gloves. Otherwise everything we needed was provided, loved the clothes airer in kitchen and the stone armchair and table outside! Butchers, giftshop and bookshop in Bellingham worth a visit. COOP handy too. Overall a good cottage.

Thank you for your feedback. I am confused that you found the cottage to be too hot as you asked the caretaker to extend the heating times by several hours. All the radiators in the cottage have individual thermostats and can be turned down, or you could have asked for the heating times to be reduced, it would have been no problem to accommodate your preferences. Oven gloves and a mop and bucket could also have been provided for you if you had requested them. The multi fuel burner is the size recommended for the room by the company who installed it. I'm sorry you didn't find the couches comfortable, most people do. I am glad you liked the stone chair and table outside, it was created in lockdown by my daughter. Property Owner

The bed upstairs was just right for us. I loved the downstairs bath, it was huge and was lovely to have a long soak after a day of walking. Great pub in walking distance where we enjoyed an evening meal and very friendly locals. The TV is a little on the small side but didn't effect our enjoyment of our holiday. It truly is a home from home with excellent and comprehensive furnishings, fittings and decor. We followed the advice in a previous review that suggested taking a washing up bowl and oven gloves, both of whi h were useful. The listing shows a washer drier being available, but it appeared only to be a washing machine. We particularly enjoyed being able to walk from the cottage and found the local pub very welcoming. The wildlife garden and bird feeding station were a real bonus, but looked a little unloved due to an upturned wheelbarrow and a couple of old garden ornaments discarded under a tree. Despite this we spent a lot of time admiring the views, the pond and the birds. The cottage garden is not currently available " due to covid". Despite these small niggles we absolutely loved our stay and hope to return.

Situated in a courtyard with a few other properties. Overall we were very happy with our stay. The only thing to mention is the outside seating area, which is only allowed in the wild life area so ignore photo 2 as this is no longer available. The kitchen was well equipped, maybe a washing up bowl and oven gloves would be useful. We only used the downstairs bedroom which was spacious with a large and very comfy bed. Good base for touring this lovely county. Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Cragside and Housesteads all well worth a visit.

Upstairs bedroom really large with quirky layout with steps between bedroom and dressing area, and between bedroom and wet room. Some sloping ceilings. Downstairs good sized second bedroom and bathroom. Steps from hall into large sitting room with dining table. Great views over the surrounding countryside. As weather was poor we asked for heating times to be extended and this was no trouble. Wifi was especially valued given the lack of signal for phones.

  • "This is not negative feedback but a suggestion - the wet room upstairs is lovely but having a shower drenches the whole room so you need flip flops or similar to use the toilet and sink afterwards, even using the blade provided to get rid of the water and having the window open for an hour or so does not dry the floor."
