"Could do with a shower curtain in the shower as the water goes everywhere."
Other than that it's a great place to stay. Great if you have dogs as they can not get out and ours loved being able to just run out when ever they wished to do so without us worrying about them. Tesco's just down the road easy to get to, 4 mins in car. Easy to get to Beamish and a ticket gets you in as many times as you wish for a year. We went 3 times as it is getting bigger with so much to see and do. Would say, if you want a relaxing or exploring holiday you will get it here as there are walks from here also Newcastle Castle, Newcastle it's self is a nice day out and a trip to Whitley Bay is well worth it.
Thanks for the kind feedback. Regarding the shower curtain, we had no feedback on this topic until recent weeks, when both yourselves and another party remarked on preference for a shower curtain. We have now fitted and tested what we hope is a suitable curtain. We hope to see you return in the future. Property Owner

"A real home-from-home; clean, spacious, comfortable and very well equipped."
Nice outside space too which we enjoyed daily as the weather was better than predicted, and there are some pleasant countryside walks from the house. The Causey Arch country park is well worth a stroll and its Poppy Coffee Pot cafe did a fine lunch. The cottage is also a great base for touring the region; for example Beamish open-air museum is only 3 miles or so away and Alnwick castle and gardens barely an hour. Corbridge, Hexham and Hadrians Wall also within easy reach. Would highly recommend a break at Bankwell Cottage, and hope to be back there ourselves sooner or later.

"Absolutely GORGEOUS property, I would come here anytime of the year just to relax & get away from the everyday stresses of life because of its beautiful views & logburner."
The owners Ann & Gordon are a lovely couple & nothings to much trouble! We'll definitely b back again

"A fantastic property, clean, tidy and very impressive."
Lots of lovely little touches that make such a difference, from the welcome pack to the dog blanket and bowl. The equipment was first class, everything, and more, you could need. The garden is fantastic and secure for dogs. I love the steam trains passing occasionally at the weekend. A fantastic location, great for walking and just a 5 minute drive from shops and facilities. I would highly recommend to anyone.
-
"Excellent Bungalow with all the facilities required."
Lovely enclosed garden for dogs and also a small field at the front, although not enclosed. Ideal location for touring the area. Black Horse & South Causey restaurants within 10 minute drive and pub across the road (no food). Met the owners who were very friendly. Welcome bottles of wine.
-
"10/10 for a lovely weeks stay."
Everything in the cottage was there. Close to Beamish, Durham, where we had great visits. Local buses regular. Going to Durham, was a nice journey through countryside on the bus. Plenty of lovely dog walks. Some nice pubs. Would definitly go back to Bankwell Pat and Terry Kearns

"What not to love?"
Spotlessly clean accommodation with welcome pack plus essentials. Lovely and warm with very comfy bed, excellent shower and fluffy white towels. Fully enclosed dog secure garden. Brilliant location very close to Beamish and only 5 minutes stroll from Causey Arch Country Park with stunning river gorge plus the Tanfield Railway which when running goes right past the bungalow. The cafe at Causey Arch is a must visit for a friendly welcome, excellent food plus free sausage if you have a dog! Thanks Ann and Gordon for a great first holiday in the North East.
Thank you for your lovely feedback Sonia we hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards Ann and Gordon Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay - thank you!"
Constructive criticism - another lamp near the far lounge wall would be more cosy than the main light?
-
"Comfortable stay for us all, everything we required although we did wash the cutlery and crockery before use as two of the knives had food remnants on them and a mug had been placed back with tea drips down the side."
We also felt that the twin bed mattresses could be replaced as they seemed like they were budget. Having said that it is somewhere we would return to.
Thank you for your comments Dawn. The cutlery and crockery are checked after each checkout but somehow on this occasion this was missed. The mattresses on the single beds are not budget and most people comment on the beds being comfy. I'm pleased to hear you would return and we look forward to seeing you next time. As I say, your feedback is much appreciated. Kind regards Ann Property Owner

"This cottage is worth more than 5 stars it’s a huge well designed property fabulously decorated luxurious towels and bright white sheets the owners have provided everything you need and more, the little touches like tea/coffee/milk and biscuits were very much appreciated after our long journey, there is a lovely garden only managed to use one day out of three due to the wet north east weather the games provided kept everyone busy."
forgot to write in guest book but we will be back , if you’re there over a weekend go out and wave at the train
Thank you for your lovely feedback Gillian we are glad you enjoyed your time at the cottage. We hope to see you again in the future hopefully the weather will be better so you can enjoy the garden. Kind regards Ann and Gordon. Property Owner

"We booked a single storey stay due to my elderly mum having mobility issues."
She struggled a little with the steps in/out but as we only went in/out once a day, it wasn't a problem. The bungalow was in a good state, very spacious which was nice! Carpets, we felt, could do with a good carpet clean but other than that the place was clean and tidy. There was no handwash soap in any of the bathrooms or kitchen (although small bars of soap were provided I don't find this adequate) but we went out and purchased our own so it was no bother. There were no tea towels left and no matches to light the fire. I did text the owner to say there was no tea towels or matches and they did reply to my text the next day and kindly dropped some off - but by this time we had purchased some!! At least we have a nice tea towel of the castle to take home! The garden was a nice size, our elderly dog liked it and it was nice that it was enclosed. Lovely touch that they left him some little treats, a towel and a bowl. We ate at the local hotel and used the Chinese for take away in Sunniside, both were very nice! The cottage is in a nice area, allbeit on a very busy road, we hardly heard the cars. Owner was very nice, text us to say we could get in early and said that we would leave a little later, so that was a nice touch. Overall a very pleasant time away!
Thank you for the feedback, it's always welcome. Regarding the steps, before we launched the cottage as a holiday let we did take guidance from holiday cottage professionals as to whether a ramp would be advisable. They felt that unless the cottage was to be promoted with specific accessibility benefits, this was unnecessary, as there are only two steps at the front and only one from the rear garden / utility room into the house which is then completely level. We clean the carpets periodically or when there has been an incident! The lack of tea towels was a genuine oversight on our part . From now on we will leave extra tea towels as a back up. (Sorry we didn't see the text until the next day - we live close by and could have popped some along earlier had we realised). Anyway, we are glad a pleasant time was had and thanks again for the feedback. Property Owner

"The bungalow was perfect in every way, five people slept very comfortably, the out look is lovely, all facilities are just what you need, the whole place had a homely feel to it."
Thankyou
Lovely feedback Mathew thank you and we hope to see you again in the future. Best wishes Ann and Gordon Property Owner

"This felt like a home from home, with extra little touches making it extra special."
Perfect location for the countryside walks, local shops and city centre. I had to work for a few days - very easy to get into the city centre, and no WiFi issues at the cottage when working. Loved visiting local attractions (highly recommend the Beamish Museum!). The cottage had everything I needed to feel comfortable and the owners were so lovely. Looking forward to my next visit already!
Thanks for your lovely feedback Alice, we would be very happy to have you back. Kind regards Ann and Gordon Property Owner
-
"Large bungalow, plenty of space for us and family who travelled down from Scotland."
Very well equipped kitchen and plenty of storage space with access to two fridges and a large freezer. secure outside garden for children and pet. Would have no hesitation in recommending and we hope to revisit in future.
Would love to have you back Celia, thank you for your feedback Best wishes Ann and Gordon Property Owner

"A lovely home from home."
Very dog friendly with secure garden and great walks close by. Every thing you would need is catered for in the property. Thank-you for our great welcome pack. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this as a great place to relax with your dogs. Great pubs, places to visit and amenities all close by.

"We had a fabulous Christmas week at Bankwell Cottage."
It's the first time we haven't had Christmas in our own home, so we thought it might have been a bit limited staying in a rental cottage: we couldn't have been more wrong. It was well equipped, very clean and comfortable - home from home. Our grown up children cooked and served a traditional Christmas dinner with ease. My elderly parents were very warm, cosy and comfortable, and like us, really enjoyed their stay. The owners are very helpful and accommodating, paying much attention to detail and have thought of everything. Little things, like the Christmas decorations, treats (even for our dog!), were a lovely touch and much appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The location is also very convenient for the many places to visit and things to do in the north east. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep too and the nearby hotel we ate at was great. We will definitely return and highly recommend Bankwell Cottage.

The cottage was very comfortable & relaxing will definitely be returning very dog friendly one of the best we’ve stayed in the views & steam railway that ran along side the cottage was stunning kind regards Pauline & John

"Lovely cottage - not the first time we have stayed there!"
Excellent "welcome" pack - we especially enjoyed the wine. Plenty of space to park.
-
"We love this cottage, beautiful views, so clean and so well equipped."
Our go to place for the North East.
-
"We had a wonderful time."
Views from the cottage amazing. We didn't want to leave as we were so comfortable. Our dogs loved the garden. We would definitely come back. So much to see in the area and a lovely tea room at Causey Arch which does a full English breakfast
-
"Hi Ann, Everything was spot on regards Bankwell cottage, I brought bits & bobss just in case it wasn't provided but didn't need to of brought any of it as the cottage was so well equipped."
We'll definitely be visiting again!!! Kind regards Emma
-
"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
Great inside & outside of the cottage. Location very good, near Newcastle, Durham, Beamish Museum & Historical Sites. Friendly Pub almost opposite (120 yards), good selection of all drinks & tasty well priced food. Stanley nearby 3 miles for Supermarkets (Asda & Lidl), there are shops nearer. The Owner’s were very helpful. Only negative point, using Sat Nav to find cottage was hit & miss, best to use the name of the nearby pub, Causey Arch.
-
"A really enjoyable stay with all the comforts of home."
Plenty of room for 6 people (although our the tallest person in our group ended up in the twin room and took a few nights to adapt to his bed): bathroom with over the bath shower and a shower room, utility room, washing machine & tumble drier, ample parking and a large dog friendly garden. Secluded, convenient location for exploring Newcastle and the North East. We did a lot of self-catering and would have appreciated the addition of a couple of metal serving spoons and a larger saucepan big enough to cook pasta for six (minor issues) The Tanfield Steam Railway runs directly behind the bungalow and Sunday was filled with taking photos & videos of the trains and completing the journey itself. The easy walk to, up and around the Causey Arch was a popular choice on several occasions (including coffee stops at the café there). The Northumberland College Zoo at Ponteland was another lovely visit for us with our young grandchildren and very reasonably priced. We received a warm welcome and the Causey Arch pub (just across the road from Bankwell Cottage) where we went for drinks and we enjoyed delicious meals at the South Causey Inn and the Beamish Hall Hotel. We all agreed that Bankwell Cottage was perfect and that we hope to return there again in the future.
-
"Lovely spacious accommodation and very well equipped."
Owners left us wine as a welcome gift and also provided a bottle of milk on our arrival. The induction hob took a bit of getting used to until we found the instructions but the kitchen had everything you would need including barbecue equipment for the outside barbecue if anyone wanted to use it. Both bathrooms are lovely however the 2nd bathroom (shower room ) is beyond the kitchen and not close to the bedrooms. The owners were very good at responding to questions via text and I would recommend this accommodation and the owners. Thank you.
-
"A well equipped and beautifully presented property perfectly located for our trips to Durham, Northumberland, city, country and coast."
Great to have parking for 3 cars and a third bedroom that was not bunk beds. Nice garden for barbecues and great views from the front windows. Steam Trains going past was a bonus. Plenty of places to eat nearby and nice walks direct from the property. Thanks for the welcome gifts really appreciated. Only thing we would have liked is a shaver point for electric shaver/ toothbrushes or a note that there wasn’t one so we could bring adapter plug. Thanks for a great week.
-
"Ann and Gordon were brilliant hosts nothing was to much trouble for them."
The bungalow is beautifully designed and extremely liveable just like being at home it has everything you could possibly need. The welcome pack was a lovely addition as it included milk so we could get a cuppa on arrival as well as wine and biscuits. There were also washing tablets and conditioner meaning less to carry. We had a wonderful week as there is so much to do in the area. We will definitely visit again soon.

We stayed at bankwell cottage 2 years ago and we couldn’t fault it then and couldn’t fault it now as it had everything you needed and the enclosed garden for our Bryn was great

"This property is fantastic, very well looked after"
-
"We had a brilliant time, everything we needed and more was available at the property."
It was a brilliant place to stay and explore Northumberland or just have a relaxing day in. It was lovely to meet Ann and Gordon. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area. Cathy West Sussex

"One of the best cottages we have stayed in, very clean and well equipped."
Welcome pack excellent. Garden very dog friendly. If we stayed on holiday in this area again first cottage we would book. Thankyou Anne and Gordon.
-
"We had a really lovely stay here; the cottage is more than we expected- very well equipped and loads of parking spaces."
Perfectly placed for walks, Beamish living museum and the Beamish Park hotel (they do great roasts!) Thanks ☺️
-
"The cottage is in a great location for easily reaching coast/countryside attractions and it's very clean."
The place was spacious and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed (and more) for a good stay and this included a nice welcome pack. The beds are very comfortable and the generous amount of kitchen equipment was great - no shortage of mugs or dishes! Bankwell has a strong wifi connection (if that's important to you) and we appreciated the Christmas decorations too. We were able to settle in quickly and enjoy our stay. We loved watching the Tanfield trains from the front of the property. The owners were very welcoming and made sure we knew they were easily contactable if we had any questions.
-
"This was our second stay in Bankwell Cottage, and we have just booked again for December 2023."
This is a hidden gem, central for our needs, but far enough out of town for peace and quiet, except when the brilliant Santa Specials thunder by! Facilities are great, really comfortable, and warm, given the ice and snow that were on the ground throughout our stay.
-
"An excellent place to stay."
Could not fault a thing. The best holiday property we have stayed in.
-
"Excellent Cottage, spotlessly clean and very well equipped."
The walk in shower was wonderful for my elderly mother and the free WiFi appreciated by all. Choice of pillows a great addition. The garden was very well secured for our small terrier meaning we could totally relax when he was outside. All in all a great stay, thankyou.
-
"A fabulous holiday cottage, perfect in every way Everything we needed was there and very cosy comfortable beds were a bonus."
We were very lucky to see the steam train go past a few times and had a lovely time exploring the area.
-
"Brilliant home from home in a lovely quite area just a short car ride away from Newcastle and all it has to offer."
The fully enclosed garden ensures children and dogs are perfectly safe. The only advice I would give to anyone staying is the postcode doesn't take you straight there so a little bit of searching is required and if you order an online shop which we did, make sure to leave them a phone number to explain where you are. Morrisons had difficulty finding us but we guided them there by phone.
-
"This was our second stay at Bankwell Cottage and again we had a fabulous stay."
The cottage is roomy, well equipped, clean and comfortable. On both occasions we’ve had other family members join us for a couple of days, so it’s a lovely place to meet up. Our dogs love it, and there are plenty of beautiful walks from the door. The owners have thought of everything from a fabulous welcome pack to a large dog towel. Being local, the owners are on hand if you need anything and nothing is too much trouble for them. Highly recommend.
-
"A clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage in a great location for Beamish museum and other local attractions."
-
"Superb cottage in the countryside, with transport to town on the doorstep, pubs within walking distance."
Lots of places of interest in easy reach. Cottage was clean and spacious. Enclosed garden that even the smallest dog could not escape from (this was essential for us).
-
"Absolutely great cottage with all the equipment that you could possibly need whatever the weather."
The owners are very helpful and friendly. Fantastic area to stay with lots of places to visit and things to do. We would definitely stay here again.
-
"Had a brilliant time couldn’t fault the property the owners had thought to provide everything we might have needed."
The milk and wine were greatly appreciated.
-
"This is my second visit to this property."
I feel it's one of the better Cottages I've used when it comes to location, cost, amenities, comfort, facilities and size. The owners are very capable of ensuring a very good stay, I met them after my first visit and found them to be approachable and a nice couple, they go the extra mile to ensure you've got everything you'd ever need.
-
"The cottage was very comfy and well equipped There was nothing else we could have asked for very enjoyable."
-
"Gordon & Ann's cottage was the perfect location to visit beamish museum with the local bus services on the doorste, local pubs/restaurants/ local causey arch cafe also first class."
Recommend Bankwell cottage for anyone thinking of visiting beamish museum, Newcastle or nearby towns and cities.

We’ve had a wonderful week and would hope to stay again in the future.
-
"Property was ideally situated."
Lots of lovely walks straight from the door and lovely places to visit within half an hour’s drive. I would recommend and would stay here again.
-
"Bankwell Cottage is a lovely three bedroom cottage suitable for families, couples and friends."
The cottage is well equipped, spotlessly clean, great views, easy parking, secure garden. The Tanfield Heritage Railway passes by the cottage which is lovely to see. The postcode supplied does not take you to the cottage it takes you to a farm shop on Hadley Lane. There are lovely walks, a pub and a hotel on the doorstep.
-
"Spotlessly clean, well equipped home."
Everything you require is there. We have thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd visit to Bankwell Cottage. Big thank you to Gordon & Ann.
-
"Superb!!!"
We booked here for the family to travel to Durham to celebrate a family birthday. The house was spotlessly clean and comfortable, there wasn’t anything I could think of that wasn’t provided. Excellent pub straight over the road. We were lucky enough to see the train a couple of times. We would definitely book here again.
-
"Really lovely house in great location with Beamish and Newcastle within very easy reach, beautiful beach at Tynemouth with cafes on the beach, great walks immediately outside the house."
Heritage railway runs by the house, sadly we missed the trains running as it was out of season. Very secure garden for dog. Would definitely return, owners very friendly.
-
"Good communication with owners pre arrival and they responded quickly to any queries."
A very clean and comfortable cottage with an excellent welcome pack provided.
-
"Wonderful place, very dog friendly."
The high fences round the back yard meant we could let our dog run around outside without worrying about her escaping, and the ground out front makes a nice morning and evening walk. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come again.
-
"Great stay, nice views, comfortable house, well equipped, clean, secluded."
Host is very hospitable and helpful when needed. Nice enclosed garden for dogs and big forecourt with big patch of grass for well trained dogs that won’t run out the open front gate. Would definitely recommend.
-
"A really great property."
We enjoyed our week there in December, and it was always really warm, despite freezing outside. It had everything needed for a comfortable stay, with lovely touches like milk, wine and biscuits, and a great Christmas tree. We would love to get back there soon, it was perfect for what we needed.
-
"Lovely cottage."
Made welcome by owner. Well equipped cottage
-
"The bungalow was lovely and very well placed for us in particular."
We appreciate it is going to be difficult to do, especially if you are fully booked but the loose floor tiles and grouting need sorting out, in particular in the bathroom. Also a few minor ideas - a few extra mugs would be useful and I found the pillows a little hard, but this didn't spoil our stay, we all had a fabulous time and if we did want to visit the area again would certainly return. There were some lovely touches - milk in the fridge, tea, coffee, biscuits and red and white wine - such a thoughtful idea.
Thank you for the constructive feedback. The floor tiles are at the top of our 'to do' list for when we have a planned shutdown after the festive season. We have done some interim repairs and they are fully grouted now, although the plan is to do some in depth rework, particularly in the bathroom. Regarding the pillows, our approach has always been to provide one firm and one soft pillow for each guest, as well as spares in the bedroom fitted wardrobe. We will keep an eye on that one. We've put a few extra mugs in the cottage also. Once again, thanks for the feedback. Property Owner
-
"This cottage was superb, the host left a wonderful welcome pack."
....the cottage has everything and more...very highly recommended.....we'll be back...
-
"Bankwell Cottage was excellent."
Thoughtfully furnished and well equipped. Welcome pack was a great surprise, and there was everything you could need for your holiday.
-
"We stayed for a couple of nights in October 2021."
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return. The house is very well set up for holiday guests and was extremely comfortable and homely. Great location, loved watching the Steam trains pass by, and easy to get to local attractions and points of interest. Thanks for a great stay.
-
"Excellent location."
Close to Durham and Necastle, the North Pennines and Hadrians Wall. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable and well equipped. Good sized beds and decent garden for the dog.
-
"Bankwell cottage is a lovely cottage situated in a perfect position for coast, towns, villages and countryside."
Well equipped, clean, comfortable and very well decorated. The enclosed garden at the back of the cottage is perfect for the dogs to be kept safe. The lovely owners are only a phone call away if you need help or advise. A visit to Causey Arch tea room (dog friendly inside and out) only 5 minutes away is perfect for breakfast, lunch or just a cuppa where you will be made very welcome by the owner and her staff before maybe a walk to find the Causey Arch (Bridge), it's a special place of interest! The Beamish Museum and village is 10 minutes away for a taste of the Victorian era Sunhaven and Littlehaven beaches are only 3/4 hour away, Littlehaven beach being dog friendly all year round, it's a large beautiful sandy beach. There are loads more beaches on that coastline well worth a visit. Other places of interest are abundant. You can't go wrong with a holiday at this lovely cottage. We would love to return to carry on where we left off.
-
"A fantastic location and an absolutely beautiful house - very comfy and homely."
Everything you could want for a holiday break.
-
"Friendly owners who sorted a small problem out straightaway with a smile."
Lovely, comfortable base for exploring the area. Added bonus of the Tanfield Railway steam train passing close to the cottage over the weekend. Maybe a dvd player for those of us without access to Netflix etc for rainy days but only a minor point as we enjoyed the cottage and holiday very much.
-
"The hosts were lovely and very attentive."
The bungalow was perfect. Just in the right location, with lots of room and excellently equipped. We won't hesitate to book again
-
"Great location and honestly not far to go anywhere you please."
The owners are developing another side further down the extensive driveway, so if your staying in through the day you'll see a few vehicles pass by along with activity.
-
"Excellent cottage in a great location."
Very friendly owners.

"Bankwell Cottage is a well represented, spacious accommodation."

"This is a beautiful bungalow in a great spot."
You can be by the coast at Roker/South Shields within 25 minutes and in the city of Newcastle and Durham in 20 minutiae. We have seen so many lovely places. Having the trains pass was just lovely. The local pub serves great food, which is just 50m away. The house it self is decorated beautifully and has many nice touches. Def some blankets for outside or for the sofa would be a bonus. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Very attentive owners who make you feel so very welcome.
-
"This holiday cottage is fantastic it is of a very high standard and beautifully decorated."
The owners have taken great care to ensure that their guests have everything they need to ensure that they have a great holiday. The surroundings and views just add to the experience including the passing steam train. We will be back and will recommending to all our friends and family.
-
"Lovely cottage to stay in and very well equipped."
A good nights sleep was had in the comfy beds. The water pressure wasn’t the best but wouldn’t tarnish our pleasure of staying here. Great location in the countryside where we had a walk around the Causey Arch and beautiful surroundings. The cottage is located near all the amenities including a lovely beach at Roker just 15 minutes drive away and the Angel of the North. The restaurants nearby were outstanding. Would highly recommend.

The village of Beamish is just four miles away, with its Living Musuem of the North, golf club and Wild Adventure Park, ideal for a family-friendly day out. The iconic Angel of the North statue is within easy reach, as is Gateshead, on the banks of the River Tyne, directly opposite the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, which can be accessed via the pedestrianised Millennium Bridge, both of which offer excellent shopping, dining and nightlife opportunities, as well as a host of attractions.
