  • "We booked a single storey stay due to my elderly mum having mobility issues."

She struggled a little with the steps in/out but as we only went in/out once a day, it wasn't a problem. The bungalow was in a good state, very spacious which was nice! Carpets, we felt, could do with a good carpet clean but other than that the place was clean and tidy. There was no handwash soap in any of the bathrooms or kitchen (although small bars of soap were provided I don't find this adequate) but we went out and purchased our own so it was no bother. There were no tea towels left and no matches to light the fire. I did text the owner to say there was no tea towels or matches and they did reply to my text the next day and kindly dropped some off - but by this time we had purchased some!! At least we have a nice tea towel of the castle to take home! The garden was a nice size, our elderly dog liked it and it was nice that it was enclosed. Lovely touch that they left him some little treats, a towel and a bowl. We ate at the local hotel and used the Chinese for take away in Sunniside, both were very nice! The cottage is in a nice area, allbeit on a very busy road, we hardly heard the cars. Owner was very nice, text us to say we could get in early and said that we would leave a little later, so that was a nice touch. Overall a very pleasant time away!

Thank you for the feedback, it's always welcome. Regarding the steps, before we launched the cottage as a holiday let we did take guidance from holiday cottage professionals as to whether a ramp would be advisable. They felt that unless the cottage was to be promoted with specific accessibility benefits, this was unnecessary, as there are only two steps at the front and only one from the rear garden / utility room into the house which is then completely level. We clean the carpets periodically or when there has been an incident! The lack of tea towels was a genuine oversight on our part . From now on we will leave extra tea towels as a back up. (Sorry we didn't see the text until the next day - we live close by and could have popped some along earlier had we realised). Anyway, we are glad a pleasant time was had and thanks again for the feedback. Property Owner

Perfect location for the countryside walks, local shops and city centre. I had to work for a few days - very easy to get into the city centre, and no WiFi issues at the cottage when working. Loved visiting local attractions (highly recommend the Beamish Museum!). The cottage had everything I needed to feel comfortable and the owners were so lovely. Looking forward to my next visit already!

  • "We had a fabulous Christmas week at Bankwell Cottage."

It's the first time we haven't had Christmas in our own home, so we thought it might have been a bit limited staying in a rental cottage: we couldn't have been more wrong. It was well equipped, very clean and comfortable - home from home. Our grown up children cooked and served a traditional Christmas dinner with ease. My elderly parents were very warm, cosy and comfortable, and like us, really enjoyed their stay. The owners are very helpful and accommodating, paying much attention to detail and have thought of everything. Little things, like the Christmas decorations, treats (even for our dog!), were a lovely touch and much appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The location is also very convenient for the many places to visit and things to do in the north east. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep too and the nearby hotel we ate at was great. We will definitely return and highly recommend Bankwell Cottage.

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Great inside & outside of the cottage. Location very good, near Newcastle, Durham, Beamish Museum & Historical Sites. Friendly Pub almost opposite (120 yards), good selection of all drinks & tasty well priced food. Stanley nearby 3 miles for Supermarkets (Asda & Lidl), there are shops nearer. The Owner’s were very helpful. Only negative point, using Sat Nav to find cottage was hit & miss, best to use the name of the nearby pub, Causey Arch.

  • "A really enjoyable stay with all the comforts of home."

Plenty of room for 6 people (although our the tallest person in our group ended up in the twin room and took a few nights to adapt to his bed): bathroom with over the bath shower and a shower room, utility room, washing machine & tumble drier, ample parking and a large dog friendly garden. Secluded, convenient location for exploring Newcastle and the North East. We did a lot of self-catering and would have appreciated the addition of a couple of metal serving spoons and a larger saucepan big enough to cook pasta for six (minor issues) The Tanfield Steam Railway runs directly behind the bungalow and Sunday was filled with taking photos & videos of the trains and completing the journey itself. The easy walk to, up and around the Causey Arch was a popular choice on several occasions (including coffee stops at the café there). The Northumberland College Zoo at Ponteland was another lovely visit for us with our young grandchildren and very reasonably priced. We received a warm welcome and the Causey Arch pub (just across the road from Bankwell Cottage) where we went for drinks and we enjoyed delicious meals at the South Causey Inn and the Beamish Hall Hotel. We all agreed that Bankwell Cottage was perfect and that we hope to return there again in the future.

Owners left us wine as a welcome gift and also provided a bottle of milk on our arrival. The induction hob took a bit of getting used to until we found the instructions but the kitchen had everything you would need including barbecue equipment for the outside barbecue if anyone wanted to use it. Both bathrooms are lovely however the 2nd bathroom (shower room ) is beyond the kitchen and not close to the bedrooms. The owners were very good at responding to questions via text and I would recommend this accommodation and the owners. Thank you.

Plenty of places to eat nearby and nice walks direct from the property. Thanks for the welcome gifts really appreciated. • "The bungalow was lovely and very well placed for us in particular."

We appreciate it is going to be difficult to do, especially if you are fully booked but the loose floor tiles and grouting need sorting out, in particular in the bathroom. Also a few minor ideas - a few extra mugs would be useful and I found the pillows a little hard, but this didn't spoil our stay, we all had a fabulous time and if we did want to visit the area again would certainly return. There were some lovely touches - milk in the fridge, tea, coffee, biscuits and red and white wine - such a thoughtful idea.

Thank you for the constructive feedback. The floor tiles are at the top of our 'to do' list for when we have a planned shutdown after the festive season. We have done some interim repairs and they are fully grouted now, although the plan is to do some in depth rework, particularly in the bathroom. Regarding the pillows, our approach has always been to provide one firm and one soft pillow for each guest, as well as spares in the bedroom fitted wardrobe. We will keep an eye on that one. We've put a few extra mugs in the cottage also. Once again, thanks for the feedback. Property Owner
