  • "The cottage was warm and well equipped."

It is perfectly situated for exploring northern Northumbria. Pat was friendly and helpful. The traffic and train noise did not bother us but we had our puppy with us and the road is quite busy and very fast with no grass verges and no turn offs or paths so local walks were a problem.

  • "The cottage is very tired & looks like it’s not had any tlc for a long time."

Spiders & cobwebs galore, giving us a feeling that it hadn’t been cleaned properly. Lots of issues - not surprising there are not any photos of the views from the bedrooms. Loved the roses outside, & the watercolours throughout. It was warm, spacious, & had a good shower.

  • "The cottage was perfect for our needs."

Nice rural location not far from some very nice beaches and a short drive to sea houses. Rail station close but no noise issues. The owner very nice, kind and helpful If going back to Northampton I would definitely book this cottage again and will recommend it to all my family and friends.

  • "Sadly the dishwasher didn’t work which we discovered the first time we tried to use it."

Mrs Russell immediately purchased a replacement but that’s not due for delivery until next week. Also the internet connection was poor until Mrs Russell relocated the modem which is in her part of the property and solved the problem. We suggested a long term solution is to put a a WiFi booster in the cottage. Mrs Russell is a charming and friendly owner and was always helpful and considerate. We had a comfortable, restful stay and enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside and stunning beaches. We thought that the inner courtyards and utility room would benefit from a clean and tidy up. Presumably these aren’t on the professional Cleaners schedule

  • "This holiday was wonderful."

Mrs Russel is a lovely lady and caring for her guests as if they were friends on visit. She advised us and came and check that everything was fine on an almost daily basis. The cottage was very spacious and well equipped, we had breakfast in a small greenhouse space South facing in the morning and watched movies in the TV room in the evening. The kitchen was perfectly equipped with everything we needed to cook, which was essential due to the Covid limitation in eating out.

  • "A very warm and comfortable residence."

Very spacious ( there were only 2 of us - because we dislike being cramped). The place was very homely. A very well equipped kitchen which was perfect as we self catered all food all week. Wi fi on my phone was poor, but worked better upstairs. The laptop didn't have a problem though. The house had a lot of character with watercolour paintings in every room of local scenes. Its situation about 3 miles inland from the coast was perfect for access to all the coastal places we wanted to visit.

  • "They say that the way to a mans heart is through his stomach, so to find a complimentary freshly made Lemon Drizzle cake made my day!"

!! Mrs. Russell (Pat) greeted Maggie (my 11 year old rescue Greyhound) and me on our arrival and made us both feel "at home" straight away. The accommodation is just how you see in the photo's of Ivy Cottage. It is a warm and welcoming place to rest you weary head after a day visiting such a wonderful part of the country. Beadnell is well worth visiting, it has a lovely beach and is only 3 miles from the cottage. I recommend Pilgrims if you want good freshly made cakes and sandwiches if you go (and you MUST go) to Holy Island. Take a walk round the walls in Berwick. I took a trip on the Berwick Boat Trips and watched in amazement as the dolphins jumped about 4' out of the water and how some of them came right up to the boat. Alnwick castle and Alnwick garden are well worth a visit as is Chillingham Castle and do NOT miss seeing the Wild White Cattle. Have a trip on one of Billy Shields boats out to the Farne Islands to see seals and all the bird life (puffins/terns/etc) and if you have children or if you yourself enjoy walking on acres and acres of undisturbed golden sand then you MUST go to Bamburgh the sea side village with not a slot machine or bingo hall to be seen!!! This part of Northumberland is Heaven on Earth.

  • "What looks like quite a small cottage on the website is, in reality, quite spacious and cleverly laid-out (though I kept going through the wrong door - finding myself in a bedroom instead of the kitchen)."

Mrs Russell is a lovely lady and the house immaculate. The sound of trains on the railway line is a mere "hush!" like a boiler quietly switching on - and does not intrude - my wife is a very light sleeper!. I am loath to recommend the place too much as we'd want to be able to book it again ourselves.

  • "Our 4th visit to Ivy Cottage with a 5th booked for new year and 6th visit in May next year!"

We love coming here, the cottage is very clean and tidy, with everything you require. Pat (the owner) is an absolute delight and is so helpful. She will go out her way to help. I have already left a review in the past so I don't want to repeat myself too much. What I would say is that anyone who is thinking of staying here to please not take much notice of any negative comments regarding Ivy Cottage (not that there are many) I think people's expectations are just different, and people want a bit too much sometimes,. However if you are looking for a peaceful holiday in a place that is clean, presentable, quiet and very friendly then do not look any further than Ivy Cottage. (In January next year the cottage is being completely redecorated as well) For anyone worrying about the train line, this really is not a problem, from the bedrooms you cannot hear them as they face the back, and even in the lounge you can just hear a slight rumble as they pass, it has never been a problem for us or 90% of other guests that stay here on looking through other reviews. Thank you Pat as always, and we very much look forward to our New Year Visit!!

The owner is extremely friendly and very approachable. The Cottage is very clean and cozy and has everything you need. There is plenty to do in the area, the small beach at Beadnell is just 5 minutes down the road, and you can reach Alnwick in 15 minutes and Berwick upon Tweed in less than half an hour. The cottage runs 40 yards away from the East Coast Mainline, which wasn't a problem for us as we love trains!! But for those not so keen once inside you cannot hear the trains and you can easily forget they are there. I cannot recommend it here enough, my only regret is that we didn't find this property sooner! Looking forward to our next visit in a few months
