“Southfield was ideal for 3 adults.”

Two good sized bedrooms, cosy sitting/dining room, convenient kitchen and parking at the front door. It was very clean and provided everything that we needed. Chirnside is an excellent base and is famous for being the birth place of the Racing Driver Jim Clark. His grave is in a nearby Church grave yard and there is a museum about him in Duns. We were very lucky with the weather during our stay and travelling by car around the area (Alnwick, the Borders and East Lothian) was delightful. Very little traffic at this time of year and the hedgerows were full of blossom, the verges covered in snowdrops and daffodils, the snow topped hills (the Cheviots) in the distance and the fields full of lambs. We enjoyed walking the Elizabethan walls at Berwick Upon Tweed and would recommend The Maltings for lunch. Alnwick Castle lovely to walk around it has something for all ages - the Giant in the Lake, the rose gardens and water feature, the Harry Potter connection, shops and Tree house Cafe. Eyemouth has a working harbour, beaches,Seals to feed, crabs to catch and access to the coastal walk. There are lots of castles(some habitable some ruins) throughout the Borders. The nearest one is in Duns and there is a walk around the lake open to the public and the castle is used for events. Floors castle partly open in the summer, lovely gardens and The Terrace Cafe and Deli very good. Lovely river walks at Coldstream, North Berwick a lovely coastal town with East and West beaches, boat trips around the Bass Rock and to Fidra Island (seasonal). The ruins of Tantallion Castle on the outskirts and a Bird observatory near the harbour. Very easy to fill your days.

Kirkgate Cottages

The interior of both properties are graced with thoughtful, homely touches and they come in close proximity to coastline, countryside, stunning towns and the magnificent city of Edinburgh, making a divine base for friends and couples to enjoy a break together. Kirkgate Cottages are part of a lovely terrace in the heart of the village, each offering cosy sitting areas to unwind in, perhaps after a memorable visit to the nearby town of Berwick-upon-Tweed just over the border. The kitchens differ in style; one being glossy and modern whilst the other takes a more vintage, characterful approach - both provide you with all of the fixtures and fittings that you will need. The first floor is where you will find the tastefully decorated bedrooms, designed in a perfectly peaceful manner with pleasant bed linen and splendid bedside tables. Get ready for your day in the glistening, white shower rooms. Chirnside is a delightfully quiet village, with the charming Waterloo Arms pub and a convenience store, a lovely base for your break. There is much to see and do in the area; you can walk the surrounding countryside with your dogs, appreciate the stunning nearby coastline, or visit some of the wonderful towns within easy reach. About the location

CHIRNSIDE

Duns 6 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 9 miles.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Whiteadder and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around the Borders as a memorial to the village’s home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting quaint, narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf, walking and riding opportunities and the nearby resorts of Eyemouth, Coldingham and Spittal offer soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. A brilliant location for exploring historic Edinburgh, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the attractions of Holy Island, Paxton House, Manderson, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle. Chirnside is a great holiday location all year round.
