  • "Warm & comfy cottage 'cosy' best describes it."

Be aware of ceiling in bedroom! Agnes did warn us. Cottage lovely & warm, bed v comfy for us. No cafetiere, plastic utensils for non stick pan. Bigger towels would be nice. If you're walkers & need to wash/dry off items there isn't a washing machine or any facility to dry things. No problem for us parking on street v close to cottage. Agnes & Bob were v pleasant and to be fair we didn't ask for any of above.

Thank you so much for your kind comments about our holiday cottage The Coach House. We are very please that you found it cosy, warm and comfortable. The cafetiere had been accidentally broken by our housekeeper the week before, but she has very kindly replaced it and the property has got it's cafetiere once more. Coach House is not advertised as being equipped with a washing machine, but a launderette can be found in the nearby town of Berwick. However, on your advice, we have now put a clothes airing rack into the property, to facilitate drying of wet or damp clothes. The towels we provide are standard sized hand towels (50cmx85cm) and bath towels (70cm x 130cm) which is industry standard for holiday accommodation. Property Owner

  • "Too expensive for what it was."

Apparently pet friendly, but the dog was not allowed in the garden or court yard. Parking was on the street on a first come, first serve basis, battling with local residents. Welcome pack was a pint of milk and 1 dog chew. Facilities were limited and in poor condition. Will not recommend or return. Would not even give a 1star rating.

Dear Mr Paterson, Thank you for your recent review, we always welcome feedback. Guests are welcome to bring a pet dog entirely free of charge to the Coach House, enabling them to enjoy the companionship of their pet whilst on holiday, and making substantial savings on kennel fees. The Coach House is not offered with a garden and it is clearly stated in the property particulars, which no doubt you saw prior to booking, that pets are required to be kept on a lead and to be exercised and toileted off site at the adjacent park. Your Welcome Pack included milk, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, and your Pet Welcome Pack included a water bowl, pet waste bags, a treat, and a towel. The Guest Information Book included information about pubs and other amenities which will accept pets, and local walks. The Coach House is offered with 'on-street' parking only, which is both amply available and free of charge throughout the village. Chirnside is a small, peaceful and friendly place, and I have never seen anyone 'battling' with anyone, let alone over parking. I recall that most days I saw your car parked directly outside our cottage.. The Coach House facilities were exactly as advertised both in text and photos and you did not request any assistance during your stay. If you had, we would have done our best to quickly repair or replace any non-working items. Your frustrations appear to be a general dissatisfaction with what you had booked. Given both your level of frustration with the property, and taking into account it was offered as advertised, I am left intrigued as to what you were expecting to find? Kind Regards Bob and Agnes Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at the Coach House."

It was helped by some fantastic weather. It was a great base to explore the top of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The village of Churnside is a fabulous location with stunning views. The cottage was perfect for two and the courtyard is bathed in sunshine from early morning until about 4.30pm in the summer, so we had breakfast outside every morning. The cottage had everything we needed, albeit the kitchen was a little dark. As described, the on street parking was absolutely fine and not a problem. The mini co-op was a few doors down, and the village chip shop was no more than 50 yards away. All very convenient. Our hosts were lovely and very welcoming. We would also recommend Berwick Cycles for cycle hire if you are interested! A delightful stay in a delightful cottage.

There are plenty of excellent walks on the doorstep. The village has great amenities and is a perfect location for exploring the local area. The owners are lovely and welcoming. I would highly recommend the coach house, we had a great stay and hope to return in September.

The cottage was clean and cosy and met with basic requirements The bathroom was small but had plenty of hot water agood shower and a lovely deep bath It was situated within easy access to local places of interest and a pub, chip shop and co-op We did have a bit of problem finding it as was not signed in any way but locals were able to help There is no parking inside grounds of cottage but we always managed to get a space just outside We did not find the cottage dog friendly as dog wasn't allowed up on furniture and there was no outside area for dog to go Local to the cottage there is plenty of places to walk the dog but would have been good just to let dog out first thing in morning and last thing at night It clearly shows in photos and informs you in description of the slanted roof in bedroom This however did not stop us banging our heads After a few bumps you start to pay more attention

  • "Enjoyed the cottage, very comfortable and in a good location we will return, however, there is a parking problem, being able to park on site would help."

Thank you for your feedback, we are delighted that you found our cottage comfortable and welcoming. With reference to parking, the Coach House is advertised with parking 'on-street' and this is reflected in the price. There is free parking throughout the village, which is frequently available right outside the Coach House. Property Owner

  • "Visitors should be made aware of the sloping roof in the bedroom meaning you cannot stand at the side of the bed, not the best for oldies."

Such a shame that with all the vast space of the courtyard there is no off road parking and that there is a lovely garden leading this courtyard that is "out of bounds". A comfortable , clean property but we would not return.

We appreciate your feedback on your holiday at the Coach House and are glad you found it to be comfortable and clean, however we regret you did not enjoy some aspects of the property. The Coach House is a tasteful conversion of an old building and the bedroom eaves can be clearly seen in the photos. The large courtyard and garden belong to the adjacent property and are therefore not available to Coach House guests. The photos and description summary give a very clear indication of what comes with the property. Thanks once again for your comments. Property Owner

  • "Sadly this accommodation is poorly laid out, the bathroom very small."

The carpets and furniture tired and grubby. We have stayed in much better from Sykes. However the owner was very pleasant and the location ideal for what we wanted.

Thank you for your comments, we always appreciate feedback from our guests. We are sorry that you did not find the Coach House to your liking. As clearly shown in the photos it comes with a small bedroom in the eaves of the attic, and a small designer bathroom which includes a full bath with a shower over. The Coach House has bags of character, a great location, and is competitively priced. In addition the carpets have recently been cleaned and the furniture has been upgraded. We appreciate your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The Coach House is a very nice cottage in a very nice village it is clean and tidy and very comfortable."

With it being set on the owners land and the courtyard having double gates makes it a bit more private, saying that, it is said to be pet friendly but the info book has very strict rules about where and what your pet can do, no toileting your dog in the grounds etc I found this a bit off putting and we were supposed to get a doggy welcome pack which wasn’t there.

About the location

CHIRNSIDE

Duns 6 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 9 miles.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Whiteadder and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around the Borders as a memorial to the village’s home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting quaint, narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf, walking and riding opportunities and the nearby resorts of Eyemouth, Coldingham and Spittal offer soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. A brilliant location for exploring historic Edinburgh, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the attractions of Holy Island, Paxton House, Manderson, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle. Chirnside is a great holiday location all year round.
