  • "The cottage itself is lovely, very well presented, clean, comfortable and had everything you could need."

The location is great, close to some very beautiful sights and beaches - it’s a wonderful place to visit. The welcome pack was a nice touch as well, and much appreciated. My only problem is about the accuracy of the listing, and other dog owners need to be aware - it needs to be a lot clearer in the description that there is no fully (safely) enclosed area for dogs to wander freely. The garden is shared with the adjoining cottage and the fencing is not at all secure. Fortunately I have an old dog who doesn’t wander (and no one was in the cottage next door so we had the garden to ourselves) but any slightly curious dog could easily get through or over the fence and be off on an adventure (and there’s a busy train line and livestock fairly close to the cottage). I had enquired about the garden before traveling so knew about the shared aspect but was told the courtyard was private - it isn’t, it’s just the frontage of the cottage which is basically a shared access track to the other cottages. Personally, when I’m looking for a cottage to stay in, some sort of fully enclosed area for a dog is key, so wouldn’t choose to stay again for this reason (which is a shame, as otherwise it was perfect). Clearer wording would have allowed me to perhaps make a more suitable choice based on our particular needs.

  • "The cottage was ideally placed and the accommodation was very comfortable."

TV reception was a little iffy but was a minor point. Towards the end of the week we did have a problem with the flush toilet which was partly due to the water saving system. I raised this with the owner who was quick to respond and they arranged to get someone round the following morning. However I managed to reticify the problem myself. This would not put us off booking again.

  • "We had a lovely week staying at Paddy’s mount cottage."

It had everything we needed & we really appreciated the fantastic welcome pack! We had read previous reviews before going and were glad that issues had been resolved. Paddy’s Mount is the perfect place for a relaxing break also it’s well located for lots of interesting attractions plus a 5 minute drive takes you to a cracking beach!

  • "Paddy's Mount is well situated in a very quiet area, well placed to explore the Northumbrian coast and country."

I would not however, describe the property as superb! It lacks a personal touch with no visitors book nor welcome pack. A pint of milk is always most welcome after a long journey just to have a brew before unpacking the car. The two seater sofa was quite uncomfortable and shabby with a throw covering a large rip in the fabric. The kitchen lacked a small preparation knife and also there was no bread knife. The property was clean but could be cleaner. We found an apple in the bottom of the wardrobe (this should have been checked) and a dead fly on the shelf in the fridge (again should have been found during cleaning). The beds we found very clean and comfortable. The back garden boundary hedge and trees are overgrown with no views now over the surrounding countryside. We did experience an unplanned power cut on our second morning and would like to thank Lee for his prompt attention at resetting the airsource heat pump. Caroline

  • "The location was very peaceful and relaxing."

The accommodation was spacious and quit well equipped and had large settees to relax on after a days walking. There were a few minor negatives, as other reviewers have said, the beds were uncomfortable, there was only 1 knife for food preparation and there was a problem with lots of tiny flies in the bathroom. Also the cottage lacked a personal touch, no welcome gifts and no visitors book which is always useful to see where other guests have visited.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Paddys Mount Cottage."

It is a lovely cottage with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It is well equipped and very spacious. The patio is a real suntrap, although dog owners need to be aware that the garden is shared with the next door cottage, as shown on the photos. The cottage is perfectly placed for visiting many attractions and is only a couple of miles from the beach. I would recommend the coastal walk from Embleton to Craster for a kipper sandwich. Also Alnwick, if you havent got a dog, Warkworth Castle, Lindisfarne and Etal and Ford to name a few attractions.

  • "My family and I had a wonderful stay at Paddy’s Mount."

The cottage was very well decorated and equipped. We particularly enjoyed the peaceful tranquil setting and how close it was to the beaches and towns. We would recommend a visit to Barters bookshop in Alnwick and the walk from Craster to Duncansborugh and Embelton beach. We are planning to have another holiday at Paddy’s Mount.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
