  • "We had a wonderful time at Coldstream Cottage."

It was a real home-from-home, spotlessly clean, cosy and warm, fully equipped and comfortably furnished. It's obvious a lot of thought and care has been put into this charming property. A great location, with plenty of parking in the Market Square, it was perfect for our needs. We had a wonderful time revisiting my mother's childhood memories and making many more. Thank you Maggie for all you did to make ours a warm and comfortable welcome.

So delighted that you had a good time and enjoyed our cottage and our lovely area. You were perfect guests. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "Brilliant place to stay in!"

There was an issue with a leaking pipe that Maggie informed us of before we got there which she believed was sorted, but we could see the next morning that the leak was still there. Despite it being a Saturday, Maggie had the plumbers out and the leak was found and sorted. Maggie offered to find us alternate accommodation which we declined as we were not inconvenienced at all. The rest of our stay was brilliant, with the house being very comfortable and having everything we needed. Our family ranged from 7 years to 68 years old and everyone loved the property. Maggie was really brilliant and clearly cares about her guests. Thank you so much for a great holiday.

Thank you for your kind comments and understanding. You were a pleasure to have as guests. Perfect in fact! I’m so glad you were able to enjoy our Civic Week and the spectacles and celebrations. Kind regards, Maggie Property Owner

  • "Despite a couple of hiccups, David and Maggie were extremely helpful and supportive."

The property is first class and well placed to explore both delightful Coldstream and the beautiful Borders of Scotland and England. I certainly hope to visit again. For David and Maggie only. May I respectfully suggest that you perhaps give a better explanation of the shared courtyard and access to the garden area, Thank you again , Malcolm.

Thank you for your kind comments and advice. I will certainly get on to that and I'll speak to guests in advance of their arrival. Kind regards to you and Millie. Property Owner

  • "This is a gem of a cottage."

It is well equipped and exceptionally clean and we really felt everything was being done to a high standard. There were some nice touches like the house keeper phoning on the arrival day to check everything was in order. We also really appreciated the milk in the fridge and the fresh flowers. The property is in a great location and parking was easy. There is a lot see in the area and Coldstream is a great base. We were impressed with how swiftly the electrical fault which occurred during our stay was resolved.

Thank you. It was a pleasure to have you stay and we are delighted that you enjoyed our cottage and our area. Property Owner

  • "Lovely clean cottage, perfect for exploring the Scottish borders & the coast."

There was no parking available at the pub but we always found space in the market square. We preferred the Besom for dining out but had to book two days in advance. Property manager (Maggie) was very helpful. We would highly recommend this cottage.

  • "There was not parking option through the Inn across the road; several nights, not only weekends, there was loud music beyond midnight from the bar / inn which was somewhat disruptive Otherwise, the facilities were great, nice and clean, we enjoyed the patio and garden; beautiful cottage and village - thank you!"

Hello. Sorry about the parking. The hotel had not told us that they could no longer accommodate our guests as well. This facility has now been removed from the description. And Noise? Well, your holiday coincided with the historical and annual "Civic Week" which is a week-long series of events and festivities, accompanying the four Common Rideouts, made on numerous horses to mark the boundaries and the last is to commemorate the Battle of Flooded in 1513. The whole community joins in enthusiastically with activities, events, and parties. It is a time of merriment and no doubt, the hot summer contributed to the outdoor noise. Nonetheless, we are delighted that you had a great holiday and were able to explore The Borders. Property Owner

  • "This was a great little property, and had everything that we could have wanted in a holiday cottage."

There were a few days that we weren't able to get a space in the pub car park across the road, however the Market Place just down the road always had spaces, and wasn't too far to walk. Coldstream was a lovely little village, and had everything we needed. The housekeeper also gave us a call when we arrived to check everything was OK, and was happy to help if we needed anything during the stay. One little improvement would be to have some more saucepans - when cooking for 3 adults, it was quite difficult with the size of saucepans that were in the property. I would highly recommend this property for exploring the Scottish Borders and Northumberland.

Thanks Ruth. Your comments have been noted and new saucepans provided! So glad you had a great time and enjoyed St. Cuthbert's Walk. Property Owner

Thank you so much. Glad you had a lovely Christmas. Point taken about saucepans! We wish you a good New Year. and look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

It is well-equipped for a family stay or, equally, a charming retreat for couples.

It offers a welcoming base, to return to at the end of a day of activity and exploration with a variety of nearby independent shops and convenient services that help make your stay easy.

Relax in the shared and sheltered patio or the private garden that catches the sun when you get home.

Maybe take a stroll alongside the river Tweed later along Penitents' Walk before dinner.

Then prepare a meal in the well-equipped kitchen or walk to the Hotel restaurant over the road or The Besom Pub for a meal.

More awaits.

The cottage nestles in the heart of this historical and quaint little town, in the conservation area.

The Coldstream Guards and the well-known specialist army surplus shop called "Walk This Way" and the Coldstream Guards Museum are round the corner.

The Marriage House, the "Gretna Green'' of the east coast, is at the end of town by the lovely bridge spanning the River Tweed, marking the meeting of Scotland with England.

Within walking distance is Henderson Park with its viewing point overlooking the River Tweed and the Cheviot Hills in England.

The lovely Hirsel Country Park, home of the former Prime Minister, Sir Alec Douglas Home is in walking distance.

Enjoy the lake, watch the birdlife from the hide or take one of the many signposted walks.

Hirsel Golf Course, on the edge of town, has been described as one of Scotland's best kept secrets in Golf Monthly's Top 100 Hidden Gems of UK.

Further afield, explore the relatively unknown and unspoilt Scottish Borders and North Northumberland.

The River Tweed with fishing opportunities is only minutes away.

Rolling landscapes offer quietness and retreat through tranquil woodland walks and impressive gardens.

The area is rich in history with castles, stately homes, and country parks.

Many of these offer exciting events such as open air concerts and drama at Flores Castle and Paxton House, the Jim Clark Car Rally, the Flodden Rideout commemorates the last great battle between England and Scotland.

A special delight to The Borders is the resting place of The Great Scottish Tapestry at Galashiels, summarising Scottish history in marvellous embroidered panels.

Visit the fascinating 19th century Union Chain Bridge" and the unusual Honey Farm that has more than bees, at Horncliffe.

Lovely unspoilt beaches are only half an hour away and for the more adventurous, Edinburgh and Newcastle are one and a quarter hours distant.

About the location

COLDSTREAM

Cornhill-on-Tweed 2 miles.

Home to the famous Coldstream Guards, the pretty borders town of Coldstream sits on the northern bank of the River Tweed, and was once a rival to Gretna Green for runaway marriages. There is a museum dedicated to the Guards, a good selection of shops and pubs, or visitors can try their hand at a variety of activities, including cycling, fishing, golf, riding or walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. The picturesque seat of The Earls of Hume, including former Conservative Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home, is The Hirsel, an estate to the west of the town with a fine mansion in beautiful grounds through which flow the Leet Waters, famous for a wide range of birds which nest there. With the Scottish borders and North Northumberland easily accessible, this is a fantastic base from which to make the most of the region.
