  • "We had a lovely stay at the village 4 adult 2 children and 3 dogs."

The cottage was lovely and spacious and had everything we needed and more. Although we had packed prepared for our dogs there were bowls towels beds and some treats provided as well. A lovely welcome pack. We did take logs and a couple had been provided but the fire is a monster so best off being more prepared. Although the cottage was warm and cosy anyway. We ate at the driftwood cafe and the Greek there on the evening which was pricey however the food and service was fantastic. We didn’t need to venture out of cresswell the whole weekend spent our days walking up cresswell beach and across to durridge bay both were dog friendly and full of dog walkers. The driftwood cafe is also dog friendly. We had a lovely stay and would definitely consider returning.

Thank you for this lovely review. We like to make sure our furry friends have a good time as well as their owners! Yes, you are right about the wood burner being huge - it's because the sitting room is rather large. We should warn guests it can get a bit tropical in there once the fire has been going a while - wood and layers would be good. Glad you all had an enjoyable stay. Maxine Property Owner

  • "We had such a lovely stay in Asta Cottage for our Christmas celebrations."

We arrived the day before Christmas Eve for a 4 night stay with my family including 3 dogs. We arrived to some lovely treats we enjoyed during the stay but what was particularly lovely was the beds layed out ready for our dogs and treats for them. It’s so nice knowing that our fur family are as welcome as we are, it really adds to the experience. Maxine could not have been more helpful before our stay and during. It was a busy time for everyone preparing for Christmas but she took the time to make it special. The cottage is ideal for a family with a very large living room and plenty of seating which makes a difference as we have stayed in a lot of other places when you have to either squish up on settees or get dining chairs in the room. The cottage was clean and well maintained. We would love to stay in the summer months as the garden area is lovely. One of the best parts though is how close to the beach the cottage is. You can see it from the house and very easy to get to. One tiny addition that we would have found helpful would be to have a coat rack in the corner as you come in the house. With the weather being mixed we had a lot of big coats that were wet and needed carrying through the house. Thank you for a lovely stay.

thank you for your lovely comments. Of course our furry friends are very important! I think that if the dogs are happy and safe then everyone can enjoy their holiday. I have just bought a shoe rack and put it by the back door because I noticed shoes when I visited some guests recently. I agree it's probably a good idea for a coat rack too. When I lived there I brought my dogs back in through the other door - hence the rack and some hooks where the washer is. However it seems to be guests' preference for the kitchen way - it's certainty warmer in there. Good excuse to go to IKEA or check out Amazon. Thanks for being great guests and leaving everything clean and tidy. Maxine Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback. We have now, in the quieter season, had the opportunity to remove the beams from above the car parking area. Sykes have recently taken out the information in their brochure which advised there was a height restriction. Pleased to report there is no longer any height restriction! One small thing was the garden area and the furniture was not very comfy and maybe the addition of a barbecue would be good.

Thank you for this lovely feedback and for leaving the house in good order. Much debate went on about the garden furniture before I chose the current ones. The idea was to be flexible and make sure the furniture was movable without it blowing around on windy days. Resin sunbeds broke against the wall in the windy weather. There are cushions in the cupboard in the porch. Considered bigger heavier furniture but then we lose the option of children having more space to run around. The debate goes on - I will look at other options. Guests are very welcome to use disposable barbecues . With hygiene and safety reasons in mind, plus prioritising staff time on change over day we currently do not have a barbecue. Will consider options - I appreciate suggestions from guests and want people to have a good time. Property Owner

  • "Asta Cottage is in a fabulous location, within a couple of minutes walk to an amazing beach!"

We were welcomed with a few essentials and a much appreciated bottle of wine and chocolates - a lovely touch. The cottage is well equipped with absolutely everything you might need in the kitchen - far better than I've come across in other cottages. It also has lots of lovely extras such as buckets and spades, plus all you might want for a picnic. The TV is the biggest I've ever seen and comes with a Sky package. The lounge is huge and filled with chairs and sofas, so there's plenty of room for everyone! There were just a small few negatives which, obviously, are subjective but did affect our stay. The heating in the upstairs large en suite room was not working correctly. I did have a conversation with the owner about it which was helpful but didn't solve the problem. I'm no plumber but I believe the radiators need bleeding since they were lukewarm at the bottom and stone cold at the top. The hot water bottles were a nice touch and well needed. The ground floor en suite bedroom would be perfect for someone with limited mobility - however this is the only bathroom which has an over bath shower (the upstairs bathrooms have walk-in showers). We all agreed that this bathroom would have been much better if it was more accessible. Overall, we had a great holiday and I would return to Asta Cottage!

Thank you for your nice comments about the cottage - it's good to hear you liked it. Sorry the actual radiators weren't working and that I did not know about that. We are looking to change the old type radiators as, despite the plumber bleeding them regularly, the fact that they are able to be turned on and off results in issues when this happens. It will need to be during the quieter months when work can be carried out so when guests turn radiators off and on the whole system isnt affected. The downstairs bathroom did used to have just a walk-in shower which I recently changed for a bath to give more flexibility. Its good to have feedback - I want guests to have a pleasant stay that meets their needs. I will look into updating the description of what is available so guests can get a more accurate picture before they come. Hope to see you again. Kind regards Maxine Property Owner

The property

This splendid, detached property sits within a walled garden in the quaint village of Cresswell, enjoying views of the sea from the first floor, and less than a mile from the unspoilt Cresswell Beach.

Asta Cottage is an ideal base for a family or group of eight seeking a Northumberland getaway along the coastline.

Discover the spacious kitchen/diner, where you can prepare the dining table for a big feast while the chef of the group gets acquainted with all the appliances, including an electric range cooker with 5-ring hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a dishwasher, ensuring you have everything for a well-equipped stay.

Carry the conversation into the lounge, where a woodburner rests in a large fireplace, and an arrangement of seating offers a lovely place to rest in the evenings.

As you tire, there are four bedrooms at this Cresswell cottage; the ground floor offers a king-size with bathroom, perfect for those with limited mobility, whilst upstairs provides two king-size doubles, one of which is the master and includes a large en-suite bathroom, while there is also a refreshing twin and a bathroom to pick from.

Step out onto the large balcony and enjoy a moment in the sunshine, or head down to the large enclosed courtyard for a refreshing drink or some family games.

The property enjoys an excellent location, close to Cresswell Beach which is largely unspoilt and remains quiet most of the year, and its dog friendly too!

Wildlife lovers can visit Cresswell Pond, a shallow lagoon that sits just off the beautiful Druridge Bay coastline, providing a year-round haven for wading birds.

Take a drive north to the picturesque harbour village of Amble, with a lovely assortment of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways, perfect for when you want a night off cooking.

Alternatively, venture south to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, a charming town for the idyllic beach and striking sunrises, along with a myriad of marine life that regularly graces Newbiggin Bay.

You are also well placed for discovering the delightful coastal villages of Warkworth and Alnmouth, together with Morpeth, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, which all provide great days out.

About the location

CRESSWELL

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea 5 miles; Ashington 6 miles; Morpeth 9 miles; Whitley Bay 19 miles.

Cresswell is a Northumberland village on the North Sea coast, popular with bird watchers with Cresswell Pond being nearby and the Druridge Bay Country Park less than 3 miles away. Recently popular with archaeologists after a community dig (the Cresswell Pele Tower Project) led to the discovery of two bronze aged burial crists, neolithic flint and pre-historic and medieval pottery. The Pele Tower is currently being restored. The Drift Inn situated 500 yards to the west of Cresswell is an extremely popular cafe/diner open all year round. Cresswell is now part of the Coasts and Castles Cycle Route (NCN Route 1) which includes 85 miles of routes that follow or lie close to the magnificent Northumberland coastline. The village has an ice cream shop but this does close out of season. The nearby town of Ashington, once known as the largest mining village in the world and offers a good range of shops and has a market day on Tuesday. It also boasts two country parks, Wansbeck Riverside Country Park and the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park at Woodhorn.
