I want comfortable, attractive, affordable, friendly and helpful hosts. This has it in spades. Wonderful view from the Juliet balcony, everything worked, heating very efficient. The Granary is slightly quirky and absolutely delight like its owners.

  • "We (a couple) spent a long weekend exploring Northumberland and used the Granary as our base."

Our arrival was easy with good comms in advance on what to expect. The owners were lovely and checked in a few times to ensure we had everything we needed, despite being busy with lambing season! The Granary is on a working farm so be prepared for animals, but it made the location more endearing for us. The location is at the end of an off-road track - bit bumpy in a regular car but ok if you drive slowly - and Rothbury village can be reached on foot in under 15 minutes. The Granary itself is located on the first floor and there's a stunning view over the hills from the living room. You'll find a double bed in the front of the cottage and two singles further back, and a dividing screen is available if you want to close the two areas off from each other. The kitchen had everything you might need for eating in, and the wine and fresh eggs from the farm were a nice surprise on arrival. In the bathroom, the shower was great (temperature and pressure) although if you're quite tall, the angle of the ceiling may make it a little tight. We had a few chilly days but the central heating was very effective and the log burner created a cosy evening atmosphere! We'd definitely recommend the Granary. It worked for us as a couple and is especially perfect for those that need a base for walking or those that like the outdoor life. It would also be good for those with young children simply for being on a farm and the chance to meet the animals.

The hosts, Allison and John were extremely kind and welcoming. The property is both cozy and comfortable and it is set in an ideal location for exploring Rothbury and Coquetdale, or further afield (as we did) to both the coast and hills. Very nice wine and huge free range eggs on arrival and as many logs as required for the wood-burner - all very much appreciated over a New Year break.

Comfy beds . As many logs as you wanted for the burner throughout our stay - it was November so we used it a lot . All the usual appliances, including a small freezer . Pretty Christmas tree/ decs to help with cosiness. Eggs and milk on arrival plus a very nice bottle of wine

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Granary."

It was very comfortable and well equipped. Alison and John were great hosts, very friendly and helpful and left a lovely welcome pack for our arrival, including a bottle of wine and fresh eggs from the farm. The Granary is a great location for exploring Northumberland, within easy reach of both the Northumberland national park, and the Northumberland coast. And National Trusts Cragside is virtually on the doorstep, which was absolutely fabulous for the autumn colours.

  • "We stayed at the Granary in March this year and we loved it so much that we went back to stay last week, our border collie Bella has a fantastic time on the farm, Alison and John are very friendly and welcoming, and helpful, especially as the weather was the hottest that its been, they gave Bella a paddling pool, which was very well used, in fact Bella spent a vast amount of time in it cooling off, accommodation is clean and tidy, location is ideal for trips to various places, Amble, Cragside, Kielder forest, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Lindesfarne, even Rothbury itself is lovely, few pubs, restaurants and essentials shops, even had a trip to Edinburgh, which was only 2 hours away."

We wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Granary to other guests, yes its a working farm, early morning wake up calls of the cockerals, all the sights and sounds you'd expect from being on a farm, we've had second hand experience of staying there in different weather's, all good though, WiFi is hit and miss but the location contributes to that, we don't go there to be on our phones or ipads though, there is a good selection of books, board games and dvds, but to be honest we are always out and about exploring wonderful Northumberland to be taking advantage of those, I did learn to play chess though in March, this is the perfect property to spend time at for peacefulness and relaxed or busy ventures out if you wish.

Good use of the space. Sleeping in the same living space means you hear fridges etc! - but that's clear from the listing and you get used to it. Something for hanging up clothes would be great (even some hooks would do). Very friendly hosts and lovely to be amongst the animals and working farm. Many thanks.
