  • "The Annexe is in a very peaceful beautiful location and has a lovely large garden ideal for children and dogs."

We were happy with the accommodation which was comfortable and spacious. We were already aware of the ‘no shower’ issue so were prepared for it. Hopefully one will be installed soon. We had two occasions to contact the owner and were impressed that she returned our calls immediately and was very helpful. There was no hair dryer but she ordered one for us straight away. Also during our stay, the washing machine wouldn’t work. This flagged up what we thought was the biggest problem, which was that the owner doesn’t live locally and doesn’t seem to have somebody nearby responsible for such matters. We reported to her that the machine was faulty on a Friday and she tried to contact an engineer but nobody returned her call until the Monday. The engineer was unable sort out the problem over the phone. The problem might have been quite simple to resolve for somebody familiar with the property but no such person was available. Lastly, the milk in the fridge and the two bottles of wine on our arrival were very much appreciated!

Only a 5 minute drive to the village and beech. Property is very spacious for a 2 bedroom cottage, with plenty of outdoor space for the dog and kids.

Well equipped kitchen & fabulous garden for the dog. Comfy beds too! Maybe the addition of a shower would be beneficial but we managed with the hand held one attached to the bath. All in all a lovely relaxing stay. Thank you

  • "Very nice location."

House itself is good in terms of space. However, it does feel a bit run down and needs some money spending on it - mainly things like cleaning the windows, have a shower you can actually use (there is a bath, but needs a shower, as mixer tap extension in just unuaseable).

Many thanks for your feedback which we really appreciate. This feedback has been passed on to the owner which will help with future bookings. Property Owner

  • "V good location, and lovely neighbours."

The home was dirty though. Evident that it had not been cleaned properly, spiders webs; dirty ceiling fan in bathroom; marks on curtains. Beds were clean but singles v hard. Kitchen was at first glance ok, but behind taps was black and dirty; items left out greasy. Limited crockery; dining chairs v uncomfortable Carpets were unclean - need shampooed. Condition of the house generally was poor overall and disappointing; broken side gate, overgrown garden. A lot of condensation in windows, and conservatory that needs attention. Shower v poor; as handheld in a bath, and did not work v well. Windows in disrepair, some seriously. Lack of clear instructions to use washing machine. Clothes horse broken and small, for a family v unhelpful when staying for a week. Owner helpful enough when called about hot water etc, but generally not interested when I mentioned cleanliness and suggested it is managed well. Will not return, unless serious investment and improvement.

Cottage more than adequate - comfortable, clean and well equipped. One or two minor issues that have been well documented so we were prepared for those. If you feel that these would be an issue then don't book! Otherwise we would recommend a stay.

This is a very poor show from both the cottage owner and Sykes. Sykes needs to do something to get the owner to remedy the faults.

  • "The location is super for exploring the area."

The beds are exceedingly comfortable. Lots of seating and lovely garden for sunny days. Well equipped kitchen but some casseroles and mixing bowls would be useful. The lack of a shower was our biggest problem. The hot water is very noisy due to air in the pipes. The washer dryer would not dry and kept stopping after 5 minutes. However we appreciated the peace and tranquillity of this area well away from the busy touristy places.

  • "This is a lovely cottage convenient for every where."

It just needs a bit of attention, a lot of the double glazing have broken down and needs replacing, a shower curtain would be good, it needs a soft sweeping brush to sweep the kitchen and pouch floors and some basins would be helpful and a bread bin. But all in all it is a very comfortable cottage I would definitely go again.

  • "The Annexe has been furnished and fitted to a high standard which is refreshing to see in a dog-friendly property."

It is probably worth mentioning that the stairs are open and wooden which in combination terrified our dog. There is no shower, just a handheld shower head from the bath mixer tap, again no problem but worth knowing. I can’t remember how long it’s been since I had a bath! The owners have noted previous critiques and the cottage was superbly clean and tea towels are now provided. Nets or other screening would have been welcome to prevent the see and be seen from next door through the windows in the kitchen and landing (views into the bathroom!). And lastly we would have loved even a pint of milk to have been provided on arrival please so we could have had a much needed cuppa after a 7 hour drive before exploring local facilities. The property fulfilled our expectations and was a great base for exploring - the conservatory entrance a much appreciated ante-room for boots and macs and for making sure muttley was house-ready after long walks. Others have criticised superficial things but having run my own self-catering accommodation for 10 years I know just how hard it is to keep everything absolutely perfect. If it was we would be paying twice the price. Thank you.

However, a nice place for a week's holiday to explore the coastal area. Lots of space both inside and out. We realized that there are pets allowed into the property (we didn't have any) so smells of dog is to be expected of course.

  • "The cottage was generally very nice , no major problems ."

The hot water sysyem was rather loud and very hot and the chess set could have done with pieces that were of different colours so you could tell which was your piece. However, having said that these are seriously tiny niggles and about the only negatives I can conjour up. The house was lovely and quite good value compared to others we saw in the area which were smaller and more expensive , So generally a very good experience

  • "As with previous reviews."

/ The location and the general facilities of the cottage were fine. The cottage was let down mainly by the level of cleanliness. We had to contact the owner who arranged for some additional cleaning. The bed was very creaky and due to the fact it was difficult to close doors you had to be very careful with the bathroom/ toilet door as if it was opened the neighbours could see directly into the toilet from a low window in the landing. This clearly requires some form of window covering. The conservatory is a very good feature, but unfortunately you cannot actually see out of the windows due to the condensation within the failed double glazing. In addition with most cottages nowadays it would benefit from Wi-Fi. Minor issues that could easily have been rectified as most have been identified previously. My wife actually works as a domestic within the NHS and spent some time cleaning even after the additional cleaning organised by the owner. Safe to say whoever rents next will find it in a cleaner condition.

  • "Whilst the cottage was on the surface reasonably clean there were considerable cobwebs etc in various rooms."

Maintenance would appear to be quite lax - several light bulbs were out and no replacements available - beds were extremely "squeaky" requiring mounting screws tightening - there was even one single bed that had not been assembled properly! Most doors although could be closed and secured by a strong hand however the ladies found them almost impossible to close - this was especially so with the bathroom door and the bedroom doors! I believe this was due to poor "hinge" adjustment and distortion! There was a lovely dishwasher provided however no tablets for use in it - if this had been notified then tablets could have been brought with us! The conservatory smelt extremely damp - needs either a heater to be left on low or a humidifier fitted! There is a lovely tiled area around/above the bath and a shower head provided however no shower curtain or screen fitted - really needs to be addressed. The toilet seat was loose and hanging off - needs to be removed and tightened before refitting - unfortunately we had no tools with us so had to suffer the consequences!! It is without doubt a lovely cottage with lots of potential but let down by the poor maintenance and attention to detail.

  • "Very good for the price for a week."

Plenty of space and large garden for the dog. Great location and very quiet. Plenty of pots and pans to use. However, we were very disappointed that the toilet seat was broken, no curtains in the kitchen or the little window on the landing. This caused the neighbours to see directly into the bathroom and the kitchen. Also, when running the hot water a horrendous loud sound is made from the boiler for about 2 minutes Would benefit with having WiFi as the 4G signal was very poor. We should have checked prior to booking, however you expect most places to supply WiFi.

  • "Essentially a really good place to stay however there a few points of irritation which could be addressed."

The directions gave a wrong postcode and Station Road was not marked,it would be better to direct people to the road for Shibottle. We found the shower difficult to use and set off what seems to be a very sensitive fire alarm when only toast being made, closing the kitchen door solved this however. So far as kitchen provision is concerned it would be good to have egg cups,a coffee pot,a salad spinner and a bread bin. Otherwise a very comfortable place, well furnished, very comfy beds, good garden, great for the welcome boules! The conservatory was also a welcome feature. Don,t know how some previous people could criticise the quality of the accommodation, unless it has been greatly improved since their stay. Our comments are quite modest really and do not affect our generals satisfaction.

The bed was really comfy. A dinning table has now been added in the main room, which was much better than using the conservatory, as at this time of year it was quite cold in there. Additional electric heaters are provided, so the main rooms were all warm. Very peaceful location. We had a lovely holiday and would book the cottage again. Thank you.

The cottage itself was lovely and clean however compared to other cottages it was lacking in a few things. Don't think its a cottage for the winter because although it may be warm enough during the day when you are out and about it is cold in the evening so anyone going in the winter should take a hot water bottle .
