With a variety of accommodation across these seven Ruffside cottages, up to 35 people can be accommodated and there is plenty of flexibility for all party requirements. Positioned around the green and the children’s play area and with stunning views over the Derwent Reservoir, each of these Ruffside cottages has its own outdoor seating area and shared use of the communal gardens, social area and games barn. Why not take some time to enjoy some of the exceptional countryside walks? Explore the delights of the Wear Valley, Five Pikes and The Pennine Way, or follow the River Tees from Forest-in-Teesdale to Middleton-in-Teesdale passing Low Force and High Force, one of Britain’s most spectacular waterfalls. There are plenty of mountain bike tracks and hacks for all abilities and numerous riding centres for horse lovers. Nearby Derwent Reservoir has three excellent picnic sites, and easy access trails with bird hides, nature reserves and fishing opportunities for those who prefer the slower pace in the countryside. If outdoor pursuits are not for you, there is still plenty to see and do with Barnard Castle, Rokeby Hall, Bowes Museum, Beamish Museum and Durham Cathedral all just short drives away. Edmundbyers is a quaint, traditional village situated south of the River Derwent, nestled in the foothills of The North Pennines and surrounded by heather moorlands, fields of grazing cattle and sheep, streams and woodland. From the village of Edmundbyers there are plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, golfing, sailing, fishing and simply appreciating the quiet natural beauty. Edmundbyers consists of about forty cottages scattered around the village green, a Wesleyan Chapel, pub, restaurant and deli. Only four miles away is the delightful village of Blanchland. Dating back to 1165, Blanchland is reputed to be one of the prettiest villages in England, famous for being the film location for many of the Catherine Cookson novels; it is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world.
