  • "Great base in Durham with easy walking routes to town and bus stops at end of the road as an option too."

Durham is really beautiful. Train station very handy. Plenty of sightseeing to do across the North East from this area. Beds and sofas very comfortable (would have enjoyed a comfortable armchair by the window in the cosy dining room for alternative seating away from the main Tv lounge). Pub on the corner very nice. Shops, pubs and takeaways in Langley Moor a mile away. Quiet at night despite road being busy at times in the day. Always able to park car safely which is bonus. Had a lovely time staying in Rosewood Cottage. Thanks for the mince pies too xx

So pleased you had a wonderful time and hope you return soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week at Rosewood Cottage."

We were visiting our son at Durham University and the cottage is in an ideal location, within easy walking distance of the university's hill colleges. The cottage was warm and welcoming after our days out and well equipped for our needs. The washing machine was particularly useful. We made good use of the generous indoor living space and look forward to visiting again in the summer so we can use the pretty courtyard garden.

  • "The cottage was much bigger than expected."

It felt welcoming on first entering. The ensuite felt a little perilous and I think I would recommend some kind of grab bar. The sofas were big and comfortable but watching TV was awkward. The frying pan needs replacing as the Teflon is peeling away and surprisingly there was not a spatula to use with it. I managed to use the frying pan by covering the base with foil. The cottage is well placed for Durham and local amenities and attractions. We did enjoy our stay. Thank you.

  • "We felt there was a slight smell in kitchen area possibly from a drain?"

Also couldn’t see a hairdryer. The cottage was comfortable otherwise. Very central for getting to Durham centre.

  • "Comfortable home."

Bus stop at end of road with regular buses to city centre Newcastle & Bishop Auckland. Duke of Wellington & Stonebridge Inn just a short walk. Steep walk back to the house from town but frequent buses an alternative. Took a while to work out that the heat & hot water are from a back boiler. We could hear a hissing sound from the fire & got a bit panicked until we worked out it was the back boiler working.

  • "The cottage was ideal apart from the awful smell from the drains outside the back of the house."

It hit us when we arrived at the property and remained present the entire weekend!

  • "We arrived to find fresh flowers at the cottage, with the lounge and bedrooms even larger and nicer than they appear in photos."

Beds and sofas were very comfortable. The house is near the road but there isn’t very much noise from traffic. Easy access to town on foot via a few different routes. We would recommend bringing a few spare towels as there weren’t enough for our family, and also some loo roll as there wasn’t any spare in the house when we arrived. We wouldn’t recommend doing your washing on holiday as the washing machine was quite mouldy and we couldn’t find the tumble drier mentioned in the cottage listing; there also wasn’t an airer. We found the toilet seat and a blind had been broken by the previous guests and unfortunately didn’t hear from the owner about these until our last day. All in all we’d recommend Rosewood Cottage as a base to explore Durham from.

  • "Excellent value for money and very comfortable beds."

The dishwasher needed rinse aid and salt and did leak some water at front right. (Salt added but no rinse aid in cupboard) Also plug in bath wouldn’t lift up to let water out. (We had to lever plug up). Minor issues which no way affected our wonderful stay. Thank you.

  • "We had an enjoyable stay at the cottage, which was warm, clean, and well positioned, but there were some niggles which meant that the accommodation, which cost over £500 for the week, fell a little short of what we expected: Firstly, there was no microwave."

Admittedly the spec didn't list one, but it did claim that the kitchen was well equipped, and surely all kitchens contain a microwave these days? Secondly, the spec listed the en-suite and wet room separately, but these were one and the same, so the en-suite was the only upstairs loo, which is little use in the night for occupants of the other rooms. Then the en suite itself was a little bizarre, being built halfway down a disused staircase - a handrail on the steps would be useful! But the really daft thing was the lack of any sort of door/screen/curtain on the en-suite, which means that you can't use the loo during the night without the bright lights waking up the wife. So, a trip to the loo in the night means taking a torch to the downstairs bathroom, being careful not to trigger the automatic lights! There were also some minor niggles: Firstly we couldn't work out how to operate the gas fire, and we couldn't find any instructions. Fortunately, the place was warm enough, so that wasn't really an issue. Secondly, it seemed that the hot water only worked when the heating was on, unless I misunderstood the controls. Thirdly, although we had a bath towel each, there was only one hand towel between all of us. Fortunately we had some spares in our luggage. However, we still had an enjoyable week and hopefully this feedback will help the owner identify some necessary improvements.
