  • "Just arrived back after a 7 night stay at emblestones!"

We absolutely love this place, having spotted it last year on the way back from the beach to our other holiday cottage/stay we said how much we would love to stay here and my goodness it did not disappoint! The views from this property are absolutely first class! We are early risers and were in awe of the beautiful views and sunrises you can see at this time of year from the property. Its quirky “upside down” design means you can make the most of the view throughout the day The property itself was exceptionally clean and modern in its design and the owners have thought of everything you would need. Despite being compact there is plenty of storage space also. The pictures on the website doesn’t do the size of the bedroom and justice as it’s a lot bigger than it looks and the dog bed/area is just lovely. As doggy lovers it’s apparent that the owners of the property are too which always helps to set us at ease for our stay the little yard is useful for our dogs to go to the toilet, we were a little nervous that there may not have been a secure area for them to go out but this area is enclosed and safe which is great. On arrival, I was having difficulties with the key safe and Justin the owner came out to help which was really nice, he was really welcoming which was great. We loved the area having visited before, my husband loves to play golf, for which this is an ideal spot and we love to walk so the coastal routes to craster, lower Newton by the sea and beadnell were ideal for us (getting the bus back to the village one day as the dogs were a bit tired!!) Overall we had the most amazing stay and cannot wait to visit again next year!! Only observations in terms of feedback and potential improvements is, it would have been good to be able to park on the drive in front of the house, particularly on day 1 when having to unpack the car etc as the owners had a camper parked. There wasn’t a parking issue as such as we could park in front of main house, just a thought/feedback. Also hot water a little temperamental and didn’t seem to last very long/stay hot long for showers etc. possibly user error but may be worth looking at. Many thanks for a wonderful stay and we cannot wait to come back to your beautiful property! Rachel

Thank you Rachel for your lovely feedback and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I wish you had told us about the hot water during your stay as it is not normally an issue unless someone has been fiddling with the controls. I noticed that there was no hot water or heating when we cleaned. The boiler had been switched off which does not do it any good being an external oil combi - particularly in sub zero temperatures. I switched it back on and reset the controls to the correct settings. I have checked with our current guests that all is working as it should and they have said that the hot water is fine. For future reference the hot water should always be set to continuous to work effectively and never switched off. The campervan is not normally on the drive but was out of the storage unit for some repairs. It has to be parked on the driveway for insurance purposes - sorry for any inconvenience. Property Owner

  • "Lovely week at Emblestones."

Just a couple of things, the loft hatch which has a heavy ladder attached came down and we had to phone the owner who was away, so had to get it back up ourselves only for it to come down again in the middle of our last night. The owners were aware saying it was on their to do list and if it had hit one of us on the head it could have caused injury. The balcony was lovely to sit out on except for the smell from the neighbouring properties boiler fumes, which was sometimes constant so had to shut the door. During our stay the drive up to the property had 3 large vehicles making it difficult getting to the front door with our luggage, although this isn’t the owners fault it should specify where it says ample parking this is one space in front of the neighbouring property.

We are glad to hear that you had a lovely week at Emblestones. I think you misunderstood our conversation about the loft hatch. We were aware that it was tricky to put back up but unaware that there was a problem with it falling down. As visitors should not have to touch it it was lower on our list of things to do. We have escalated it and now replaced the missing spring, added an external bolt and safety chain. The boiler next door is generally off during the summer except for 2 separate 1 hour periods a day for heating water. Guests can however turn the central heating on in cold weather. Occasionally we hear reports of fumes in certain weather conditions but unfortunately cannot do anything about it. Both boilers are on annual service contracts and comply with regulations. We did explain the reasons behind the parking spot for Emblestones being in front of the main house and not on the drive. This is to ensure that visitors are never in danger of being blocked in by their neighbors. We understand that it means you have to walk past their cars to the front door but we believe that's preferable to being accidentally blocked in. There is ample parking both on and off road for both properties should it be required. Property Owner

. The ‘upside down’ layout is brilliant for making the most of the outstanding views from the living room. The property is ideally placed as a base for walking the coastal path with a bus stop only 250 years away to catch the coastal bus to extend the range for taking linear rather than circular walks and if you want to explore further within 45 minutes of Lindisfarne to the north and half an hour from Amble in the south. As for golfers, they'll be spoilt for choice with the myriad of courses in the surrounding area.
