  • "Wonderful! Fabulous views, easy walk to the beach and Dunstanburgh castle, places to eat and a handy shop!"

The house was plenty big enough ( and more) for UK and NZ residents-6+ 2 children!! Christmas trees in the house was lovely touch for new year and we needed nothing - except a bit more wood for the lovely fires

I am glad you enjoyed your stay - its was lovely to meet all your wonderful family. In the winter months we tend to lay up both fires and then leave a generous starter pack of wood and kindling- which should do at least 4 evening fires. If you need extra supplies then you can usually purchase it from the village garage. If they have run out then try Alnwick or Seahouses. Property Owner

  • "Lovely large house in the most amazing setting."

Very clean and comfortable with everything you could need for a short or long stay. Kitchen really well equipped and beds very comfortable with good linens. Easy walk to beach from the house - and to pub, shop, golf club! Really great location. We had an issue with the dishwasher whilst there - but the owners were aware and came to sort for us during our stay. The only downside was the showers situation... only two showers and these were in ensuites, one of which was really very small. It would have been hugely beneficial to have a shower in the main bathroom as we all ended up sharing two showers. Maybe something to consider for the future. All in all though, very enjoyable holiday in a lovely house in a beautiful part of the country.

  • "This is the best holiday home we have ever booked."

The location is excellent - just a short walk to the beach and close to Alnwick, Bamburgh etc,. The house was so well equipped - even down to the wet suits and body boards which our younger family members loved. The owners are incredibly helpful and not at all intrusive. We had a variety of ages plus 2 dogs and everyone loved their time there. We've had withdrawal symptoms since we came home! Highly recommend. Thank you Justin and Bridget.

  • "We stayed here in late August with families with young children."

The pictures did not do the place justice, it is a huge property and so well equipped. And an ideal location to set off on coastal walks. The kitchen was full of all the essentials. Having sky sports and Netflix in the lounge room went down well, and there were enough wetsuits and boogie boards for us all to use. Very clean and well kept, Bridget and her husband were super friendly and helpful. However, the views down to the sea are not highlighted enough. Really spectacular. The walk down to the beach is about 20 mins, but really is worth it. Also perfect for running…. I ran along the beach up to the ship inn and back along the the coastal path each morning (about 5K). It is a short 5 min walk into Embleton where there is a decent village shop with a deli, while the restaurant in the nearby Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel is superb. Couldn’t recommend enough (book ahead). Local pub also friendly and good selection of local ales. Would also recommend the nearby pizza place ‘Embers’ a short 5 min drive away. In short, this place is a gem. We shall be back. Linton (London)

  • "We had a great family stay at this property."

The location and views are stunning. The property was spotless everything was extremely well looked after, and it was so well equipped, it’s clear it’s a well loved home that owners do stay in for part of the year, so definitely had a personal feel. Only minor issue we had was with the dishwasher but owner is aware and trying to sort it. I think it’s worth mentioning that there are two showers in the property both in the en-suites, the family bathroom only has a bath. The property sleeps 10 so access to showers if you have people that like to sleep in might be an issue for some. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property and hope to return - it’s lovely.

I am glad that you and your family had a great holiday in Whinstones. A brand new dishwasher is being fitted today so that should solve the minor issues you had. Hopefully we will see you again soon and you can test it out. Bridget and Justin Property Owner

  • "We had an amazing Easter holiday at Whinstones."

We were two families (4 adults 4 kids and 2 dogs) and everyone loved it. The house is beautiful and very spacious. It is well equipped with everything you could need including even wet suits to borrow for anyone braving the sea! The views from the house are simply stunning. It is well situated in the village where there is a a shop and pub and a hotel with restaurant if you wanted to eat out and walk back. The walks from the house either way along the coast were fantastic, again with pubs and seafood if a rest was needed. The golf course was also enjoyed and easy to access. We really enjoyed our stay and would very much recommend to others.

  • "We had a great time and liked the property a lot."

And we'd go back and recommend it to friends. So all good on the big stuff. What we think could have been made clearer in the listing is that really this is a holiday let where you're staying in someone's own primary residence that they've vacated to allow you to stay. This wasn't a problem for us but it does mean it's a particular type of experience - more friendly and homely but not quite as high standards of cleanliness, or consistency of furnishings (some top quality, others less so) etc as you might get elsewhere or expect. Final thought - the listing really underplays the proximity and quality of Embleton beach and the fact that there are several great gastro pubs within 15 minutes drive.

  • "Fantastic property."

Superb views. Lovely off road walk down to beach needs to be emphasised as this is a real USP. It is about 1m to beach as opposed to 0.1m as listed in description. A great combination of large house in peaceful village where you can walk to pub, hotel and small shop in under 5 minutes and to sand in 15. Something for everyone. No hesitation in recommending this property for both staying local or exploring further afield. Lovely coastal walks from doorstep to legendary pubs are a must. Would love to go back.

Thank you for your kind comments and I am glad that you all enjoyed your holiday. You are correct that there is a mistake in the description of the distance to the beach and we will ask Sykes to rectify it ASAP. According to google maps it is 0.5 mile walk to the golf club at the bottom of the road. It is then another 0.1 to 0.3 miles walk through the dunes to the beach depending on which path you choose to take. Thank you for pointing this out and we very much hope to see you and your lovely family again soon. Best regards Bridget and Justin Property Owner
