Mr Gibbons “Good location, quiet and private but still close to all amenities and beach.”
Perfect garden for the dog - secure and interesting
Perfect garden for the dog - secure and interesting
- Mr Gibbons, August 2020 -
Mrs Fyfe Hardy “Great little cottage with most of what we needed for a good holiday, lovely enclosed garden.”
Good location for exploring north into Scotland and south into Northumberland. Please be aware there are not enough towels provided for all guests so pack some to take along. Double mattress cheap and uncomfortable so take an extra duvet to lie on, single beds seemed better. Handy instructions about various things in the cottage were dirty and need replacing, hand soap running out, bin dirty, not big problems but lacking attention to detail and easily fixed if wished. Overall a good stay for the price we paid off peak in winter.
- Mrs Fyfe Hardy, February 2020Mr Sooley “The cottage was a great family getaway great base to explore the coastline”
- Mr Sooley, October 2019Mr Cobbold “Why do you constantly bombard with emails after I made a booking?”
You send to my address almost every day, and it is not appreciated.
- Mr Cobbold, August 2019Mr Wilson “Spent a great few days at Traquair.”
Cottage had everything we needed. Clean and tidy. Its ideally situated close to the centre of Eyemouth. Would definitely recommend
- Mr Wilson, August 2019Mr Yates “Bungalow was everything expected.”
would book again.
- Mr Yates, July 2019Mr Mcdonnell “Yes the towel heater in the bathroom isnt working needs repairing”
- Mr Mcdonnell, March 2019Mrs Gardiner “The place stayed in was alright, nothing fancy but we didn’t expect luxury.”
I would suggest the owner could update the information flyers about things to do in the area as they are a few years out of date.
- Mrs Gardiner, August 2018Mr Fletcher “There is nothing inaccurate or misleading in the information provided on the property and to be honest our expectations were not particularly high on the property itself but we do agree with some of the negative remarks left by other people who have stayed at the property e.”
G. windows dirty on inside and some in need of repair (particularly the one in the room with bunk beds). Bathroom and kitchen have clearly been re-furbished in recent times and the lounge is comfortable. Overall though the property requires some major refurbishments (it has a late 70's / early 80's feel and I think possibly has some dampness problems - twin bedded room has lots of condensation on the inside of the windows and room doe have a slight damp smell to it even in a week where the weather and temperatures were high). General maintenance appears a little lacking e.g. cooker hood / extractor does not work, radiator leaking in bathroom, toilet seat loose etc..Would happily pay more per week for it if it was modernised to it's full potential. Location of property though is excellent with Eyemouth itself being a nice town and 5 minutes stroll down to the harbour and beach. The "Fast Blast" boat experience is highly recommended. The coastal path north to St Abbs & south to Burnmouth both from Eyemouth are excellent walks with contrasting scenery. Berwick is 20 minutes drive and certainly worth at least one visit, Holy Island 30 minutes drive and we would also recommend the Heatherslaw to Ettal Steam railway as another excellent day out. Many more attractions within easy reach so plenty to explore whatever your tastes.
- Mr Fletcher, July 2018Mr Kelly “We tried contacting the owner Mr.”
Vanko prior to travelling, 48 hours before travel as requested, but did not get any response, we then rang Sykes Cottages, (spoke to Jade) to inform them of our situation, they did manage to get us the door code to gain access to the property. Upon arrival at the property after a 4 hour drive from the ferryport in Cairnryan (we reside in Ireland) we found that the door access code given by Sykes Cottages was the wrong one, we tried the owner Mr Vanko again and left a message and he did return the call and he confirmed that we were given the wrong access code and gave us the right one. We could have done without this hassle after a lengthy car journey. Whilst the premises were comfortable this is the first place we have rented that towels were not provided, towels are a basic requirement .House could do with a bit of TLC.
- Mr Kelly, June 2018Mrs Acheampong “This cottage fails to meet its potential due to several factors dirty windows inside and out /old out of date double glazing with failing sealed units allowing cold in the bedroom with the bunk beds in being especially effected with a visible hole you can put your finger through The beds are very uncomfortable and the bed linen although clean was very cheap looking.”
There was visible mould on all the seals on the inside of the windows and dead flies which also had mould on them suggesting they had been there for sometime. The curtains in most rooms were faded and not particularly clean and the garden was spoilt as it was overgrown and uncared for. Despite all of that we enjoyed our stay but it is such a shame as it could be so much better with some care and attention Also you have to take your own towels adding to your luggage. There is no proper fridge freezer just a very small fridge with the minutest freezer compartment inside. There is sufficient room in a very large utility room to put a nice fridge freezer, Hope that the owner will take this onboard as it could be so lovely and we would return many times if these things were rectified
- Mrs Acheampong, May 2018A Holiday Lettings verified reviewer “Good Location”
Well appointed cottage - 5 minutes to town & pubs/restaurants. Clean however 2 slight niggles - house hoover really smells bad (filters need to be replaced) & the windows were very dirty inside & out with the kids bedroom at the front having a visible gap causing large drafts due to the glazing units failure. Would not recommend putting kids in this bedroom
- A Holiday Lettings verified reviewer, April 2018Ms Grant “It was a good location.”
Lovely for walks even did a bit of fishing just to feed the very friendly seals in the harbour! Highly enjoyable even the weather was good
- Ms Grant, September 2017clegg1966 “Excellent accommodation for all family”
We are back from a week here at Eyemouth and must say this in ideal base to stay. 5 minutes walk from centre and harbour. The accommodation is great, yes has a few bits that could be improved but, on the whole is excellent. family of 5 with a small dog and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy. great part of country and this is a great base to explore the borders. I would highly recommend this property for a stay in this area..
- clegg1966, April 2017Leach “Our accommodation was first class and was on a hill but not too steep and the harbour was only 10 minutes away.”
We were fortunate to see the seals in the harbour. There are a lot of interesting places to visit in and around Eyemouth, all within a 1 hour journey.
- Leach, June 2014Mr Cox “We enjoyed the holiday because Eyemouth is a lovely coastal town based around a busy fishing harbour and on a particularly beautiful stretch of the north east coast.”
The town centre is unspoilt with little alleyways and narrow streets and a home bakers shop. There is also a modern supermarket. There are pubs that serve good food and also interesting museums, including the Georgian Villa, Gunners Green, which has been opened up for visits. Part of the visit is about smugglers which children can take an active part in. Our 3 year old really enjoyed his visit there. There is a little sandy beach there which the children enjoyed. Also a beautiful cliff top walk to Coldingham where you can have a pub lunch and a bus ride back to Eyemouth. The accommodation was comfortable and there was adequate equipment and space for our party of 4 adults and two small children. It was also close to the town centre: about 10 minutes walk.
- Mr Cox, June 2014Mrs Phillips “Good location for exploring.”
Great we could bring the dog with us and there is a pub (Contented Sole) that allows dogs in Eyemouth. Lovely little fishing village.
- Mrs Phillips, April 2014Mr Mccormack “The cottage was excellent.”
I was particularly happy with the garden, and the convenience of the large green area.
- Mr Mccormack, November 2013Mrs Geraghty “The bungalow was a home from home, with plenty of walks and places to visit in the area, excellent!”
'Contented Sole' does a lovely steak.
- Mrs Geraghty, October 2013Mr Gait “Splendid holiday in an excellent cottage, very pleased to be able to take our dog.”
We will be back for a longer visit, many thanks.
- Mr Gait, September 2013Mr Colquitt “Very nice property, we will be going again.”
- Mr Colquitt, September 2013Mr Welbourne “A very nice spacious property which suited our group very well.”
- Mr Welbourne, August 2013Mr McGill “The location of the property was excellent.”
- Mr McGill, March 2013Mrs Parker “We stayed here last autumn and really liked it.”
The improvements to the sitting room and the new fire are excellent. The utility area is a real asset if you bring a dog and the garden is also excellent.
- Mrs Parker, March 2013Mrs Mason “Nice to have a house to stay in rather than bed and breakfast.”
Great garden for the dogs and a great utility room for them to sleep in and lovely big sink to wash them in. Had a relaxed stay!
- Mrs Mason, November 2012Mrs Moorley “Everything new, bright and clean in this bungalow.”
It was warm and comfortable and close to the beach and harbour. Highly recommended.
- Mrs Moorley, October 2012Mrs Etherington “Garden enclosed and good for animals and/or young children.”
Security good.
- Mrs Etherington, September 2012Mrs Colledge “Lovely area and friendly people.”
Short walk to the beach and had a grand time with my dog. The cottage itself felt very homely and would love to visit again.
- Mrs Colledge, September 2012Mr Stobbart “The bungalow was spacious and comfortable with a fair sized lawn that our dog adored.”
Eyemouth is a small and friendly village. The pool at the local leisure centre is very good indeed. The village is also an excellent base from which to explore the Borders generally.
- Mr Stobbart, September 2012Mrs Sawtell “The location was excellent for walking to Eyemouth Harbour and beach.”
Felt like we 'got away' from it all, but if we needed something it was easily available.
- Mrs Sawtell, August 2012Mrs Armstrong “The bungalow was lovely and situated conveniently for a walk down to the harbour and also as a base to go to other places.”
The bungalow was nicely furnished and well equipped - we would definitely stay there again if we went to that area.
- Mrs Armstrong, August 2012Mr Wall “The bungalow was excellent.”
It had been recently decorated and was very clean. Well positioned for touring the Borders.
- Mr Wall, June 2012Mr Mincher “A good location for getting around that part of the country.”
- Mr Mincher, April 2012Mrs Bell “Traquair House was just superb.”
The location is excellent and Eyemouth is a fabulous town with excellent shops and beach. The house has every convenience and has a great location. We used Eyemouth as a base to explore all the borders area, and will definitely be back!
