  • "This was our second stay at the Turkey house and we had an enjoyable week."

It is in a quiet and peaceful location but convenient for travel and the main attractions. Our only two gripes were firstly very poor state of the baking trays and frying pan which were unusable - we mentioned this to the owner who immediately said she would replace them. And secondly, the extremely creaky bed which creaks whenever you make the slightest movement.

  • "This is an excellent property, very well equipped and comfortable."

Ideally located to visit many local places of interest. The owners were helpful during our stay. One criticism, not aimed at the owners, is the allotted entry and exit times. I cannot understand why Sykes insist on a 5pm entry and 9am leave time? Before Covid this was at least 4pm to arrive and 10am to leave. Reverting back to these times would be much better and take pressure off the guests.

It had everything we needed. The only downside was the listing saying it had a fridge/freezer. We took 7 packs of frozen food for our dog and frozen meat, chicken, steaks etc. Even bread to freeze so the fridge with ice box was very disappointing. That aside it was a great cottage.

Hi Elizabeth Thank you. Will change the description to Freezer box. If you ever return, We have a freezer in our Garage that can be used to store larger quantities of food. Kind regards Jane Property Owner

  • "We had a pleasant week in the Turkey House, which is peacefully set in lovely countryside."

The owners live next door, so at hand if you need anything but the cottage is very private, with views over the fields. We mostly eat in on holiday, and the kitchen is very well equipped indeed. We had to have the heating on a couple of times (Scotland in August, not unexpected!) and the place heated up very quickly. Excellent hot water too. There are seats and a table outside should you be fortunate with the weather. One pouring wet day we went to Berwick upon Tweed, which is only about six miles away and has supermarkets, cafes etc, and is also very much worth a visit anyway, as it is a very interesting place. We had our bikes with us and were able to cycle straight out the door into the quiet lanes - two pubs in villages a mile or two away are easy to visit. There are also details of local walks in a folder in the cottage. It was wonderful to get a holiday after everything that has been going on, and we had a lovely week here.

  • "Whilst the cottage outwardly looked wonderful and the hosts left us provisions we were not expecting there were some things we were not comfortable with ."

The first was that there was no lock on the porch in which coats, shoes and other out door equipment was left .The main door into the house was difficult to open and there was some evidence of forced entry/entries being made. We did ask the hosts about the lock on the porch which they said had never had a key but it was a solid double glazed door with a multi point lock similar to our home front door and this certainly has a workable lock. The new electric fire could not be controlled remotely as the batteries had failed and although we told the hosts on our first day there, they did not provide any new batteries but did say we could use the manual override. There were other small things which needed attention and we left a list of these so they could be rectified.

Thank you for your feedback. In regards to your concerns raised, the lock on the porch door has been fixed by a locksmith and we can assure you there has never been any attempts at forced entry by persons unknown to us. The remote to the Electric Fire now has new batteries and is fully operational. Once again many thanks for your valuable feedback. Property Owner
