  • "No issues as previous feedback with cleaning or being cold."

We turned heating on when needed ! Only thing missing was a cafetiere as the local supermarkets didn't sell the coffee pods for the machine provided as we wanted decaf ones. That really was our only issue

Thanks for your comments and we hope you had an enjoyable few days at the property. We were pleased to hear you had no issues with cleanliness or heating. We will drop off a cafetiere for future guests' use when we are next at the property at the end of this month. Property Owner

Bedrooms were cold on night time as we stayed over christmas could have been more cleaning materials so we could do kitchen benches as we went larger tv would be nice but thats just me would stay again

Thank you for your review and we hope you had a good Christmas at Treetops. We note your comments about the temperature of the bedrooms overnight and will have a look at this when we are next up at the property. We will also leave some disinfectant spray for future guests' use. We hope you come to stay at Treetops again. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay, the property was beautiful and immaculately presented."

It had everything we needed. The bedrooms did feel a bit cold, despite the heating being on, but it was particularly cold weather while we were and it didn’t ruin our stay at all. We would love to come back.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Treetops, even though it was an especially cold weekend. We would be very pleased to host you again should you return to Alnwick. Thank you for your comments about the property. Property Owner

  • "We have just come back from a week in Alnwick at Treetops."

The cottage is in a great location, well equipped and high spec in terms of fittings and furnishings. We did have a number of issues though. In our first evening the keys were not in the collection box. The cleaner had taken them home so we didn’t get access till 7pm. Mistakes happen. Then however the cottage hadn’t been cleaned to our expectations and the king size bed hadn’t been made up as a twin as requested. The bathrooms felt grubby with hair on floors and on low ledges, the cupboards and the fridge hadn’t been wiped out and we had a leak on a radiator and a blocked plug in the en suite sink. Not great. I must say though that Northumbria Cottages were prompt to rectify the situation sending a lovely alternative cleaner on Saturday and maintenance team in to sort things. Eventually everything was lovely….however for the price it should have been better. They need to replace the original cleaner that’s for certain.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry for the problems you experienced on arriving at the property, in particular the fact that the cleanliness of the property was not up to standard. The cleaning of the property is organised by Sykes Cottages and we have had a few problems recently with the level of cleaning carried out. We have been assured that these problems are in the process of being remedied by the appointment of a new cleaner so that future guests will not face the issues that you had. Once again our apologies and we are pleased that at least the problems you encountered were swiftly rectified by Sykes Cottages and we hope overall that you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous time- recent reviews worried us slightly, but our stay was just perfect."

We arrived quite late- the flat was warm and cosy. The beds were comfy, it was really clean and tidy, we were honestly so happy with the place. The rooms have been furnished beautifully and there was everything we needed. I would hate for other customers to see earlier reviews and be put off- Treetops gave us exactly what we wanted and needed!

Thank you for your very positive feedback. We are delighted that you found the property comfortable and clean and that it met all your expectations. Property Owner

  • "The property was lovely, as described and very nicely appointed."

However, we were cold! It transpired that the boiler had no water in it, so we were cold on our first night not realizing this was the reason and when we got up in the morning there was no hot water anywhere for showers. Once we realized this was the problem and filled the boiler with water, it was very comfortable, but I would expect the owner or agent to keep an eye on something like this. Lovely apartment and well located.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Treetops. We have not experienced any difficulty with the boiler previously and are very sorry that you had problems with the heating and hot water. We have arranged for the boiler to be checked. We hope that you will choose to return to Alnwick and stay again. Property Owner

  • "We were extremely disappointed with the overall cleanliness and hygiene of this apartment, especially as this is an ongoing problem."

The owners are aware of this situation (previous complaints /reviews), agree it is unacceptable but have failed to do anything! It is unacceptable but so is the owners lack of action. The bathrooms in particular need a thorough clean, especially the en-suite shower, which is still covered in mould. There was clumps of dust around skirting boards, dirty windowsills and filthy refuge bins in the main living area.

Thank you for your comment. We are very sorry that the cleanliness of Treetops was not satisfactory. We can confirm that the cleaner for the property has now been replaced by Sykes Cottages at our insistence. In addition, maintenance work has been carried out at the property, including the bath and shower being re siliconed and the seals replaced. We have therefore taken action to meet your concerns and will continue to monitor the cleaning of the property by Sykes Cottages going forward. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property which was exactly as advertised."

It was very spacious for us as a family of 6 and was a perfect location close to the town. As lovely as it was the mezzanine area seems a bit of a missed opportunity as we didn’t really use it and maybe could do with a little more up there, like a pool/games table and more bean bags which were very comfortable to use. We would definitely book again and would recommend to our friends and family.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Treetops. We note your comments about the scope for improving the use of the mezzanine area and will look into this further. We have in fact looked into whether we could put a pool table up there but the logistics involved in lifting the table up there have so far defeated us! We do hope that you will decide to book with us again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The location and quality of the accommodation was just what we were looking for, a few minor niggles here and there, but we do have one major gripe."

The bathrooms were plain dirty - really, not clean at all. Accumulated dirt on the floor (hairs, dust etc), mold in the bathroom and a very dirty bin in the en-suite room was simply unacceptable. It seemed that the bathrooms had barely been cleaned since the previous guests had stayed and are in dire need of a deep clean. This deeply tarnished what would otherwise have been a lovely break.

First of all, please let us sincerely apologise for the condition of Treetops on your arrival which from what you say was completely unacceptable. We have recently been made aware of an issue concerning the cleanliness of the property which has affected some recent guests and have in fact already raised this with Sykes Cottages who are responsible for the cleaning work at the property. We have now contacted them again to make them aware of your experience. A thorough clean of the property is supposed to take place after each guest visit and we are trying to find out from Sykes Cottages why this did not take place before your visit. We will do everything we can to ensure the problems you encountered do not reoccur for any future guests at the property. However, we are very pleased that the location and quality of the property suited you and we hope that you will visit again by which time the issue regarding the cleanliness of Treetops will have been resolved. The open-plan living area sets the tone for the rest of the home with clean, white walls contrasting with a stunning vaulted ceiling.

There is an ample seating area arranged around a feature fireplace with a stove-effect gas fire and the tasteful soft furnishings help to create a really warm and inviting area.

You can imagine spending many happy hours socialising and relaxing together here.

It’s just a few steps into the stylish, contemporary kitchen which is comprehensively fitted with all that’s needed for creating fantastic holiday food.

Adjoining the kitchen is the elegant dining area with its chic table and chairs, just waiting for guests to take a seat and tuck into long, lazy meals together.

The outside offers another space to socialise alfresco with shared, enclosed gardens ideal for the children (and any pets!) to run around safely while the grown-ups can relax.

A feature spiral staircase leads from the living space up to a cool mezzanine sitting area, a great alternative space with beanbags and plenty of space to chill out, away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house.

When it’s time for bed, the bedrooms certainly don’t disappoint: think stylish boutique hotel with walls painted in tasteful hues, stylish soft furnishings and sumptuous beds.

The bathrooms are equally appealing with a soak in the feature free-standing bath a must while you’re at Treetops.

Located in the heart of the vibrant market town of Alnwick, Treetops is the perfect base from which to explore the region.

The town is dominated by its stunning castle and gardens which boasts Europe’s largest cascading water feature.

The castle’s other claim to fame is that it was the setting for Hogwarts School as featured in the Harry Potter films.

The town also has a good selection of shops and amenities as well as miles of beaches to explore.

Nearby coastal towns worth visiting include Alnmouth, Seahouses, Warkworth and Beadnell with trips to Farne Islands popular where you can look out for unusual birds and even seals.

Other attractions include Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery.

If you want to get active then have a go at golf at Alnmouth Golf Course, horse-riding at Slate Hall Riding Centre or surfing at Bamburgh Castle Beach, or just head out for a hike anywhere along the Heritage Coastline and you won’t be disappointed.

For a home-from-home that feels like a boutique hotel, make sure you book a holiday at Treetops.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
