  • "We had a fabulous week, the accommodation was excellent , beautifully decorated and provided most of the equipment required, however toaster was useless."

Our main concern was the mattress of the second double bed, it was uncomfortable and not supportive we would suggest this need replacing . Bunk beds were very noisy and rickety. We had to swap the mattress from top to bottom Pillows appeared very old and flat and I would suggest that 10.5 tog duvet in the summer too hot especially as the property was so well insulated. On the whole it’s provided a very enjoyable holiday,

  • "The cottage was lovely."

Bright and airy. We were really pleased with the facilities but surprised that there was not a hairdryer . The surroundings were beautiful and it was a quick ten minutes by car into Bamburgh. We were disappointed that check in was not until 5 and then out by 10 since the request was to strip all the beds etc., We would return though.

  • "We had an amazing stay at the Betony."

Lovely lodge in great location. Only issues a gate on the railings would be more secure for dogs or children to prevent them from wandering as there is a lot of cattle & sheep in the fields right next to lodge and outside area is really dark at night. Outdoor cushions for furniture could also be doing with a wash.

Many thanks for your feedback . we are considering a gate for the property but the reason currently for no gate is a couple of other lodges with gates have had issues with wind and the glass shattering so understandably we are considering other solutions .i have asked the cleaning team to sort out the outside cushions . once again many thanks Rachel Property Owner

  • "Gorgeous lodge with everything we needed for a wonderful stay."

We only wished we were staying longer. Gate on the veranda would have made it easier with dogs and young children. A quick guide on oven Would’ve been useful as took us a while reading manual to get it going. All minor issues. Beds were comfortable. Would’ve liked to have been able to turn off towel rail in bathroom as was very hot with children. Would definitely recommend and return.

Thank you very much for your feedback, I’m glad you had a happy time, I do hope you will come again and just for information you can switch the towel rail off at the socket just outside the door to the bathroom. Once again, many thanks. Rachel. Property Owner

  • "The site is tucked away approximately 2."

25 miles west of Bamburgh Village, and is easy to find. I would suggest to help those who do not have sat-Nav that a sign is positioned either end of the lane to which Brada Lodges sit giving a direction as does the other holiday parks along the lane. The lodge itself is lovely, but would recommend the use of washable paint in areas in heavy use such as the bin area, down the side of hand basins/toilets. Also, the outside of the en-suite shower needs a little attention with a bit of water damage. However, we loved the lodge and its situation in the open countryside, and is an ideal spot as a base to investigate the area further. It’s located close to the historic Bamburgh Castle, it’s beautiful beach and sand dunes, and close to the Farne Islands famous for their wildlife habitats. We loved the place so much we have booked Betony Lodge for August 2023.

  • "Good afternoon Today I returned from a 4 night stay in Betony Bamburgh Although the location of the property was amazing I was totally appalled at the standard of cleanliness Despite asking for an early check in which was refused due to Covid cleaning we arrived in the dark … no lighting outside to find key when entering the property it was freezing cold no heating on and I had 2 young children The floor was not cleaned properly furniture has obviously not been moved rubbish behind units … the cobwebs on ceilings in both rooms huge !"

!! The bedding was stained as were the duvets The mattress on the en-suite room was extremely uncomfortable as the springs had gone The crockery in the kitchen was all chipped …we cleaned the floor and washed the bedding the next day as we were unsure it was actually clean Considering the amount we paid to stay it was not acceptable ewe should have had a five star experience

Dear Mrs M . I am very sorry to hear you have had a disappointing experience staying in our lodge and i can also see the standard has not been high enough for some weeks now . please accept my apologies . I have had a meeting this morning with the cleaning company who service the lodge and have been assured of a better standard going forward . To address your concerns in order: I have no idea why you were not allowed an early check in as the lodge was ready two days earlier and I gave permission over the phone for the next door guests to arrive in the day light so no reason for you not to be offered the same .The outside lighting is an issue I agree and I have a meeting with the electrician to install some PIR units ,the cobwebs I m afraid are 24 feet up and beyond the remit of the cleaners but I will organize someone to remove them .I have ordered a new mattress for the en suite bed ,and had a conversation with the cleaning company about the stains you mentioned, the chipped crockery has been replaced , we have a large amount of it but Im afraid it does chip rather easily when clattered in and out of the dishwasher,it looks good as a service but has not met the demands of its remit !!!! but should have been checked prior to your stay . Over all, I would have preferred if you had contacted me at the beginning of your stay and made me aware of your concerns so that i could have done something about it at the time and you would not have left with a bad feeling . once again please accept my apologies for your concerns , ready 2 days you arrived to deliver the christmas tree and i set the heating to 22 degress so i am not sure why you were cold on arrival Property Owner

However, the cleanliness of the lodge was not up to the standard we expected. Its needs a through deep clean. The dining seat covers were stained and grubby, the cushion covers grubby. Dinning table sticky all over. On moving the coffee machine there were stains on the bench. Corner of shower showed black mildew (needed re-sealing). Cobwebs around the window needed cleaning. Greasy oven trays.

  • "We enjoyed our stay, loved the location but were not happy with the cleanliness of the soft furnishings or bedding or table."

. The duvets were stained, cushions were pretty dirty and when we arrived the second bedroom had pubic hair on the sheets and one of the pillows was stained with what we thought was makeup. The vacuum cleaner base was so full of dirt and hair we had to spend time picking it clean.. The dining table was sticky and despite trying to clean it many times it remained sticky to the touch, not a good table to eat at!.All in all the overall cleanliness was not what we are used to at home so we could not class the lodge as a home from home due to the cleanliness issues I have described.. Other than these points we enjoyed our break.

  • "Bathroom bin hadn't been emptied before arrival of women's sanitary products - clear plastic bag didn't help."

Dining room table surface was sticky which no amount of cleaning resolved. Bedding, cushions and placemats were stained making use very uncomfortable. Whilst it appreciated that pets were allowed, the fact the cottage smelled of wet fur for those who do not have pets is unacceptable. Perhaps the condition of the bedding etc is partly to blame? The cottage needs blinds on its south side, first for privacy and secondly due to sun streaming in onto the TV not allowing the children to see what's on and heat reduction. The aerial didn't work as couldn't even get BBC channels. More care needs to be supplied to ALL guests using their online TV accounts on the smart TV as numerous account were open for potential exploitation!!! Given that COVID allowed the owner to rectify all those sorts of issues before making the cottage available again, makes the whole experience disappointing. Even financially, the cottage was fully booked weeks before our arrival and months thereafter, thus the cost of cleaning and/or replacements, given the cottage price bracket, is unacceptable. Overall, given its potential, a very disappointing experience.

The lodge is really light and airy with a nice decking area where we were able to enjoy sun and views of Bamburgh Castle when it wasn’t too windy and cold. It is part of a number of luxury lodges built in a previous quarry location but it doesn’t feel crowded and we weren’t disturbed by neighbours. The lodge was warm Some of the mugs in the cupboard were stained but fine once I cleaned them in the dishwasher. The washing machine had the remains of a washing pod in the rubber seal area I needed to remove prior to using and I ensured it was clean after I used it. The lodge was well equipped with towels, tea towels, oven gloves (I didn’t use the oven gloves as I brought my own)dishwashing tablets, rubber gloves and cleaning cloths but no washing up liquid. We recommend this lodge for a lovely holiday

The only thing that let it down is the cleanliness there was quite a lot of dust, and also crumbs in between the sofa cushions, in the cutlery tray etc which wouldn’t be ideal normally but given the pandemic made us question how clean everything else was.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
