  • "Professionally run, clean, comfortable, warm, peaceful position and a great place to unwind - a lovely holiday complex that we enjoyed during March."

One of our party felt that you heard everything through the walls of the master bedroom. It might have been nice to have waste paper baskets in the bedrooms and bathroom but these are VERY minor niggles. The description of the property was good although we were accommodated on the day that we arrived, due to our first choice not having any heating or hot water on our arrival, perhaps that was an “ill wind..”!

Loved the large dining room table in the kitchen with the view, we saw fantastic sunrises. Accommodation warm, shower powerful and hot. Bed with a topper and so very comfortable, high thread count sheets. Everything you might need in the kitchen and the dishwasher great (no washing up)

Comfy beds. Fabulous view and abundant wildlife. The weather was great for February and our dog Nell spent her time digging holes on Northumberland’s beautiful beaches. Will book a return visit but out of season again as only 2 of us and it would be too costly.

  • "We had a wonderful 2 weeks at Eagle Fern ."

For us the location is perfect . We walk down to the sea and along to Bamburgh and its wonderful beach and butchers ! We drive to other quiet beaches to walk with our reactive dog and return to relax in the comfortable and peaceful lodge. Foxes, hares, deer and a local barn owl were seen often on fine January / February days.

Access to the beach walk to Bamburgh ( though important to check tide times) makes this location special. And we must mention the excellent Carters shop in Bamburgh which delivers all that is required on arrival. For anyone travelling from south of Watford the prices ( and quality of goods ) is amazing ! The property is well equipped, clean and comfortable and quiet. The outside space and garden was perfect for our dog. Waking up to cows and sheep and the views every morning was peaceful. It’s a great base for visiting all the must see places Northumberland has to offer. We personally love the beaches at Bamburgh, our dog can run free. Lewis fish n chip shop in Seahouses is worth a visit too they sell gluten free fish n chips too. We will definitely return.

  • "We had a lovely 7 day family holiday at Eagle Fern with our daughter, son in law, and their dog."

I made contact with the owner prior to our stay and our query was answered quickly (did the property have a bbq - no but welcome to use a disposable). The owner also messaged during our stay to check everything was ok. The property was extremely well equipped, it didnt mention in the description weather cleaning products would be provided so took my own just in case, I didnt need to, hand soap in both bathrooms, kitchen and utility room, enough dishwasher tablets for the week, washing up liquid and tea towels also provided, a small bottle of milk also left in the fridge. We cooked ourselves most nights and had all utensils, pans etc we needed. The beds and bedding were really comfortable. Previous reviews mentioned the hob was difficult to use, we have gas at home but found the hob easy to use once you read the instructions. The property sits in the corner of the site and there was a lovely side grassed area as well as decked area with patio furniture. The views were amazing, Bamburgh Castle in the distance and views of a field to the front with cows, calves, sheep and lambs and watching the wildlife was such an experience, we saw badgers early evening as well as a barn owl every day. The only sounds you hear are wildlife, it is so peaceful. If you do the walk up to the quarry (instructions in welcome pack), I would recommend walking or driving up the lane to the top of the hill and use the gate there as the route from the site was quite overgrown with thistles and nettles, once you get to the top the views are amazing! Would definitely recommend and we would stay again.

two things I would add - a sun lounger bed would be nice and showers are tricky to use with very hot water. Needed a man's strength to turn heat down to usable temp.

    WiFi was fairly good.

Dear Ben, thank you for your feedback. We're pleased you enjoyed our Holiday Lodge. The issue you experienced with the power was unfortunately down to the power failing on the central grid. This was not specific to Eagle Fern lodge. Additionally, all the lodges have mains electricity and in particular our lodge uses a green electric energy tariff. Property Owner

The Lodge was equipped to a very high standard, in a great location (deer in the field opposite at night), with easy access to local and not so local amenities and attractions. Thoroughly recommend the service, food and atmosphere of The Victoria Hotel in the village, the Windings Lane down to the beach and sand dunes and of course the Castle.

  • "The property is nice but I agree with other reviews the cleaning isn’t to a high standard hairs in shower kitchen floor not clean had to hoover it when we arrived as was worried the dogs may eat bits that were on the floor."

3 little logs left for the fire only lasted 40 minutes. We asked for the twin beds to zipped locked together to make a super king as that’s what we have at home and always look for when renting a cottage I was told it would be done it wasnt. The hob is a nightmare trying to cook is impossible. The master bedroom the mattress is so hard. Having stayed at many holiday cottages they alway have a welcome pack not at this one only 1 pint milk left the lodge wasnt cheap to rent especially at this time of year so all in all I wouldn’t recommend you can do a lot better. We left after 3 nights due to some of the above. The Christmas tree well I really don’t know what to say about that apart from why would you place something so pitiful.

Dear Angela Please accept my apologies for the confusion around the request to zip link the beds together. This was our fault and I'm sorry that it caused you and your party additional inconvenience. I'm also disappointed that you didnt stay for the full 4 nights are per your booking. I have taken on board your comments regarding the cleanliness of the kitchen floor and have reiterated the absolute need for high standards with our cleaning company. With regards to the mattress being too hard. I can reassure you that the mattresses are of the highest quality and each mattress has a topper for additional comfort. I'm sorry this didnt meet your expectations but I guess this is down to personal preference. The initial logs for the fire are complimentary and provided to get you started on arrival. I will ask our cleaners to leave out more logs in future. On a final note we are not required to put up Christmas decorations including a tree. However, we do this to make the experience a little more memorable and special for our guests. Once again, I'm sorry your stay wasnt up to your expectations. If you decide to stay with us again then I will personally ensure that your overall experience is much better second time around. Best wishes, Sean. Property Owner

  • "The accommodation was as described very bright and airy."

The beds/bedding was very luxurious and comfortable. The settee’s not so comfortable. Our main gripe was the poor quality of the kitchen utensils, we had a whole knife block where not one knife was sharp enough to slice a tomato, spatula’s broken, potato peeler without a blade etc. Not up to the standard of the Lodge. But the site was very clean and the calf’s in the nearby field were an added bonus.

  • "We were really impressed with the property."

It’s was really well equipped and extremely clean. All the fixtures and fittings were really high quality, lovely bedding and towels. A few negatives, could do with some bins in the bathrooms and the hot water was very hot, might need a bit of a warning. The main draw back for us was the fact you couldn’t really walk to a pub or shop realistically. It was a beautiful location (we loved the cows and the views from the top of the quarry) but I think saying you can ‘stroll onto Bamburgh’ might be a bit of a stretch.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
