  • "Firstly the good points Croft cottage is near to Alnwick and all its amenities The property is spacious and well equipped, Wi-Fi good and mobile the same."

Beds were comfortable, water hot, showers good. Bad points The house had obviously not been in use for a time as there were cobwebs all over the property. Bedroom bin had not been emptied, dent in the bathroom wall was possibly caused by the door which stuck when trying to open and close. The downstairs bedroom was extremely cold and cramped. Oven was temperamental. Noise from the neighbours dogs and A1 were loud. If you live in a town or city, traffic noise may not bother you unduly, we live in a village and it felt awful. Vacuum was full of dog hairs. Never had a problem with Sykes cottages before but had to log a call with them upon arrival as we were so disappointed and actually came home early- first time ever.

I am sorry that the cottage didn't suit you but pleased that you enjoyed some positive aspects. The cottage was occupied a matter of days before your arrival and regularly before that and it is inevitable at this time of year that a few cobwebs will appear as the property is situated next to countryside; the cleaners are regularly complemented their thoroughness. Dogs are strictly not allowed in the property and there is supplementary heating in the downstairs bedroom. The oven is sophisticated but simple instructions are displayed alongside. I trust that Sykes were able to assist you with some of your issues. We aim to maintain high standards and appreciate customer feedback in order to assist with this, and we do have a large number of very happy holiday makers staying and many return visitors. • "We had a fantastic stay here during October half term (despite the weather!"

). The cottage's open plan living area was perfect for spending time together during our stay. The kitchen was very well equipped and all rooms and facilities were clean. The clear instructions and the manuals in the draw were very useful. We even made use of the buckets and spades from the storage box in the garden when we headed to the beach. When we were not using the cottage facilities to cook we went to The Hog's Head which is only a short walk away (head torches recommended for the walk back). Our only negative is that on checking future availability this wonderful cottage is booked up every school holiday until 2025!

  • "The cottage is comfy and well equipped."

Well placed for visiting the area. The downstairs bedroom was very cold, the underfloor heating was not adequate and there was no additional heater although there was a sign asking for the oil heater to be switched off before leaving, but there wasn't one !! The shelf in bathroom above the sink in the main bedroom is poorly placed as it gets in the way when try to was tour face. Also it states room for two cars, you do have to park one outside of the courtyard.

  • "The cottage was spacious, comfortable and clean - nothing to say against it."

But I hadn't appreciated quite how close to the A1 it is. We only had one nice evening where we would have wanted to sit out, but it was too noisy for me to want to do so. Also, our guest found the dogs barking really annoying - although of course that is outside the control of the cottage. The cottage seemed well insulated so it was only a problem if we wanted to be outside.

  • "We found the ground floor bedroom and en-suite very cramped."

It was quite cold at times in the property. However, the property was clean and well equipped.

  • "We love this house - second time we've stayed, and the location is excellent."

We were just really disappointed the garden was unusable throughout our stay as the grass hadn't been mowed for several weeks and the tree had come down... we reported immediately and were told it would be resolved Saturday and then Tuesday latest when I spoke to Customer Services. It wasn't sorted. The garden is a big factor why we book as we have two small children. Would consider booking next year, but not sure now.

I am so sorry that there were problems with the grassed area and that it impacted on your enjoyment of your holiday. The property is managed for me by NCCC (Sykes) and I have been liaising with Sykes Customer Services department on an ongoing basis about the lack of mowing. I am assured that the gardening issue has now been resolved and the lawn should now be cut regularly on a fortnightly basis, as in previous years; mowing resumed last Friday. It is very helpful to receive your feedback and I would like to thank you for letting me know about the problem. Property Owner

  • "Overall the cottage was well equipped and clean, the living area had plenty of space for our stay with 4 adults and 2 toddlers, the upstairs bedrooms had plenty of room with a spacious ensuite and family bathroom."

Our daughter & son in law used the the double bedroom downstairs and found it a bit tight, the shower cubicle could do with some illumination, it is very dark. Overall a great location for exploring the castles and beaches.

  • "What a beautiful cottage."

The open plan living area suited just what we needed for our ladies two night stay. 3 bedrooms, 2 with en-suites. The decor was stunning and the place was warm for our stay on 14th and 15th July was terrible weather. We were doing a 26 mile charity hike and to come home to the cottage was just lovely. It had everything we needed and we would all definitely recommend. Thank you!

I do hope your walk well in such awful weather. It was lovely to hear that the cottage suited your needs so well after a challenging day. Thank you for picking Croft Cottage and I hope you will return some time to Northumbria for a longer visit. Jenny. Property Owner

  • "Cottage is lovely, absolutely no issues there."

The listing said no cot/high chair, yet in my booking I was able to request both. Called to confirm they'd be on site and told yes, but when we arrived they weren't there. Someone came round and found both in a locked cupboard, so all OK in the end. Then received a few different phone calls from the rental company, about us asking for a cleaner (we hadn't), and then about us asking to move property (we hadn't). Overall, nice stay, but very strange and confusing communications.

Brilliant cottage, great location for exploring, love the open plan & the beds were really comfortable Despite being quite near the A1, the garden is very quiet and also being so close to Alnwick town centre made it very handy We had brilliant weather, so could make use of the sun in the garden for breakfast, and again for evening drinks

  • "There were a couple of minor issues - the lock on the downstairs bathroom was very iffy, and the bath panel in the upstairs bathroom was not fitted properly."

A sign to indicate where we should park would have been helpful as there were plenty of signs outside other properties telling us where we couldn't park. However, I must stress, these are minor points, Croft Cottage was lovely, beautifully decorated and furnished, equipped with everything we needed, and more. The garden was stunning, full of wildlife and it felt unbelievably rural, yet we were minutes from Alnwick and the A1. Fab cottage in an excellent location, this goes on our list to recommend and revisit. Many thanks.

I am so pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable holiday at Croft Cottage recently. It has become a very special place for me and my family and it's lovely to hear that guests have enjoyed it too. I stay there myself very few weeks, but it's very useful to receive feedback about issues that have arisen between my visits and to have the opportunity to maintain the property as well as possible. Thank you so much for your comments and I hope you will be able to make a return visit sometime in the future, Jenny Property Owner

  • "Best cottage ever stayed in."

Everything you needed on the doorstep. Parking excellent. Room to store mobility scooter that was hired for my mother. Bedrooms felt like luxury. Exceptionally clean on arrival. Will be booking it again for 2 weeks this time. Too much to do. We couldn't fit it all in. Spacious and comfortable. Really felt like you could relax and have a proper holiday with family. Loved the dvd choice left and hubby found good book to read from the selection. Can they keep winnie the pooh there!! Better than going abroad.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
