  • "The thermostat for the heating needs replacing --- the temperature display is unreadable."

Also, we were left a note asking us to put the the recycle bin out which we did but it was the wrong week and we could not find a general rubbish bin. The only bins present were the recycle, garden refuse and glass only. Apart from these issues I would definitely recommend Tearlach House as a great place to stay.

Hello thank you for you comments. The thermostat is new and is a honeywell system which is not yet 3 years old - the boiler is new also. The temp display comes up when you press the screen. If you had issues we have telephone numbers for both the housekeeper and I. I can also access the thermostat remotely. As far as the bins go, the note may well have been out of date. I will talk to the team about that, however, all bins are outside the property and, if in doubt just match the colour to the others out on the street. Thank you for your feedback and your recommendation we hope you will book again soon. Property Owner

The cottage is spotlessly clean and comfortable. It is well equipped and has a small patio area at the back. It is in a quiet residential area, a short walk to Alnwick and shops. It is an ideal base for exploring Northumberland. We will definitely use this cottage again.

The perfect base for our holiday. It has a pretty and well kept garden with outdoor seating, washing line facility and bird song in the mornings. There is so much to do in Northumberland, such a beautiful area of the country, we barely got through half of our list of places to go. We had an amazing week, will be returning!

Thank you so much for your feedback and I’m so glad you had a great time. It’s a beautiful area indeed. Property Owner

  • "Spotlessly clean cottage in a fantastic location."

It's only a 10 minute walk to Barter books in Alnwick centre, and less than 5 mins walk to the leisure centre (my boys enjoyed swimming there). It was a great base to explore the local area too. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage. The only things we'd suggest (as other guests have mentioned) would be for an extra bin bag to be provided, and a pint of milk (or somemilk sachets) be left so you can have a quick cuppa when you arrive. But this does not distract from what is a very comfortable and well-situated house.

Thank you so much for your feedback and we absolutely will take this onboard. We do not provide milk but we do provide tea, coffee, and sugar, as well as a welcome pack. What we do provide in the house is a starter for the stay. I’m so glad you had a good stay and hopefully you’ll book again soon. Property Owner

Welcome pack was a nice surprise. Comfortable beds. Only drawback was a Friday 17-30 start holiday, Travelling from Coventry it took us naerly 8 hours to get there. Roadworks didn't help but on a Friday afternoon people were finishing work which added more time to the journey. A Saturday start of holiday would be much better.

Hi there and thank you for your feedback. We do a Friday for 2 reasons, firstly because that way our clients get a full weekend during their weeks stay. The second reason is that is the day we have to do the turn around. It is a long way north ! We hope you’ll book with us again soon. Property Owner

The kitchen was well-stocked with crockery and utensils, the beds were very comfortable with plenty of extra bedding, and hot water was always available. The area is quiet, but still only a short drive from the centre of Alnwick (also very walkable) and close to local amenities. Communication was always very fast, and the organiser was really helpful. Loved the bi fold doors in the living room and my daughter loved the soft toys in her room, lots of lovely added extras like tupperware for picnics, boot room porch to take off sandy shoes and a proper washing line came in very handy! The big American fridge freezer was an added bonus and we ordered a food shop to arrive on our first night. Ideally equipped to eat in and although small it provided everything we needed. Little things like providing dishwasher tablets ect were very much appreciated and a lovely welcome hamper greeted us. Thankyou for a lovely stay ! PIN number for Sky didn’t appear to work so unable to watch selected TV programmes. However the house was spotless and welcoming. A nice welcome pack of bread and biscuits and crisps and wine. Thanks. A small bottle of milk would have been good too. I would prefer that to vinegar crisps. The back garden needed a tidy up. We couldn’t work out how to turn down the heating and instructions would have been good. Overall a good review though. A nice warm cosy house in a great town near enough to the town centre but nice and quiet. A lovely holiday.

Hello Karen thank you for your feedback. Sadly we do not provide washing powder in the property as normally people would provide there own due to potential for allergic reactions. However, we do provide a starter amount of toilet paper, as we do with dishwasher tablets, cling film, kitchen roll etc. In many holiday lets this is normal practice. Thank you for your feedback about the heating, I will look in to that in the guest instructions. The pin has not changed for the TV but the purchase options have been removed so that may be why it did not work. The numbers for Andrea and I are in the property so if you stay again and have any issues please call. I am so pleased you had a lovely holiday and thank you for your comments. Property Owner

Well-decorated. Small but attractive enclosed garden. Quiet area a little out of Alnwick - about 15 minutes walk. Generously equipped - plenty of crockery and cutlery. Accommodating hosts. Maybe a little snug for five adults (which we were) but better weather would have opened up the garden for more use. Good price for the quality of the accommodation.

Appliances were top quality such as Bosch and the very comfortable beds and bedding were too (Bensons and Silentnight). The house also provided lots of really helpful extras (kitchen roll, washing tablets, fairy liquid, dishwasher tablets, hairdryer, hose for washing down wetsuits!) and we were treated to a welcome basket full of goodies too. We were a little disappointed (due to the over-demand in this Covid year of staycations!) to have had to book such a small house for our very grown-up family of adult-sized children but we found it perfect for our needs.

It was quiet with no noise from neighbours through wall and not much in garden. There was a small well equipped galley kitchen. The dining area has a large table which makes it a bit cramped unless move furniture around. The two leather sofas were a bit soft for our tastes. Gas central heating but not used since went in height of summer. Two electric showers but we only used the one over the bath which was very good. Bathroom light not working and reported at end of stay in book. There was a children's play ground around corner within 1 minute walking and an open grass area called a community orchard (behind or west of Arkle Court) – accessed via a footpath at top right hand branch of Arkle Court. Shopping easy; M&S and Sainsbury within 1-2 minute drive in the direction of the access to A1; Co-op and fish & chip shop in direction of Alnwick town centre. Walk to Barter Books and town centre in 15-20 minutes. Easy access to coast with lots of possibilities and quiet in July. Can recommend Craster or Dunstan Sands for walk to Dunstanburgh Castle. Beadnell has hire of water sports equipment, and beach walk from Amble to Low Hauxley/ Druridge beach.

It is quite a walk into the centre, but car parking is free and plentiful. There is a retail park nearby which includes Sainsbury's and M&S Food Hall. The house is very well equipped in the kitchen with excellent electrical items. Although the garden is quite small, it is ideally positioned to enjoy the afternoon/evening sunshine on the garden furniture provided. Wine, milk flowers, bread all left ,which was amazing. My only gripe was the lack of saucepans, and the heating system. I did contact the owner only to be told, those were the set times and only she could override the system. There were a few times I was not as warm as I would have liked.Otherwise a lively property.

Hi Miss Sandquest, Thank you for your lovely review. As far as the heating goes if you remember our email exchange I wrote to you to say ...”sorry to hear from Andrea that you had an uncomfortable night. I’ve changed the heating schedule in the house as it can get very warm at night. You can still turn it up if you need to of course, however, this little house really keeps its heat in and it may get too stuffy for you. The quilts are quite warm. I hope you have a better sleep from now on. Have a lovely holiday All the best, Anne. “ I’m sorry if you found the heating system a bit tricky, I’ll keep that in mind for future guests, so thank you for the feedback. As far as the pots and pans go, as the cupboards aren’t huge and we want to make it as spacious as possible for the guests but we will take this on board. Thanks again and hopefully you’ll book again soon. Property Owner

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
