  • "The owner (who lives next door) welcomed us with tea and biscuits on our arrival and gave us info about places to visit, which was very helpful."

Bonny Barn is a small but lovely property with amazing views of the countryside from the well maintained garden. There is a local pub which serves good food a few minutes walk away . We thoroughly enjoyed our time there despite the very changeable weather - there is plenty to do, especially for those who like walking.

  • "Bonny Barn is a wonderful little retreat in the lovely village of Harbottle in Northumberland."

The property is owned and managed by a lovely lady called Anne, who is so welcoming. She made us tea and biscuits upon arrival, provided fruit and vegetables from her land as well assorted jams and wine as welcome gift. Notwithstanding lots of local knowledge. Kindly Anne allows guests full use of her garden and summerhouse. Thank you Anne. We will certainly try to visit again and would happily recommend Bonny Barn to others.

  • "Second time at this venue and stayed round same time of year."

Took time to do other tourist opportunities this time including going to Alnmouth and Kielder Water. Weather was much better than expected and enjoyed the local pub The Start which we went in a couple of times plus it acted as a small hop for the village. Overall loved the quietness and scenery of the area and hope to go back again one day.

  • "Lovely little cottage in a gorgeous part of Northumberland, great for a few days away from it all, it is small - if you are of "generous proportions" like me you may struggle to get in bed :-) The owner is very nice, garden and sun room are great for relaxing - even if it rains."

  • "Charming place in a lovely quiet village."

Small and compact but with everything you need for your stay. The garden is beautiful. The sun house at the top of the garden is a fantastic place to relax and admire the views, and on a clear night watch the stars. Some great walks nearby and the pub within easy walking distance is friendly and serves yummy pizzas! The owner is a wonderful lady, very friendly and full of lots of helpful information. Her tomato's are delicious too

  • "Northumberland is a beautiful location to take a break - as a County, it has everything: outstanding countryside, hills, and a breathtaking coastline."

I frequently visit Northumberland but for some reason have failed, up to now, to go to Harbottle. This is something that I will remedy in the future, for, the village is absolutely picturesque and is situated in the most of tranquil locations. Bonny Barn only enhances the holiday. It is absolutely perfect with everything you can need. The small cozy space is utilized to the full with a two-burner hob and a conventional oven/microwave if you want to self-cater. There is even a washing machine should you need to wash through any muddy clothing. Anne the host is an amazing lady, she is so helpful and friendly. We were even given some fresh vegetables from her gorgeous garden which comes complete with fairies - magical. My dog was made to feel very welcome, there were even biscuits waiting for him in the barn, along with milk and goodies for us. I would thoroughly recommend the Bonny Barn and most definitely will be going back.

  • "The Bonny Barn was small and quirky but we had everything we needed and nooks and crannies to store our cases and a utility room as well."

The mezzanine was lovely overlooking the room downstairs. the owner was kind and helpful and left us cake and goodies to eat and invited us in to tea when we arrived. There was a summerhouse we could use at the top of the garden with lovely views over the countryside. A good view over the garden. Plenty of places to visit along the coast and the village was along practically empty country roads until we got near the coast which was a pleasure to drive on. .

Lovely welcome baskets in the cottage and a real homely feel to it. Added bonus of the sun room for relaxing after a day exploring.

  • "Comfortable and clean, Ann is very welcoming and helpful."

The village is quiet, restful, and the surrounding countryside lovely. We really enjoyed the walk (climb!) to the Drake Stone. We missed a freezer box in the fridge. The sleeping area could have been darker if there had been a blind on the second roof window, and on the door to the garden.

  • "A good location and cottage for a quiet time."

Included walking in village of Harbottle as well. The castle and Drakes Stone are must dos and there is a pub that doubles up as tourist centre, paper and coffee shop.. Easily placed for Hadrian's Wall, Keilder Water (National Park in general), Alnwick, Northumberland Coast, Lindisfarne, and Berwick upon Tweed. If a day is required in Scotland again easily positioned for this. The accommodation is excellent and enough space to prepare basic meals. The week we had was very warm with no rain at all. The landlady who lives in the main cottage was on had if need be and will supply you with some fruit/veg depending on what time of year you are staying. Very helpful all round.

About the location

HARBOTTLE

Alwinton 1.5 miles; Rothbury 9 miles.

The delightful village of Harbottle is situated in the Upper Coquet Valley, between the grassy Cheviots and the more rugged Harbottle Hills. Rural Harbottle has an old village pub and a ruined medieval castle, and is conveniently located in the Northumberland National Park, from where you will find the Simonside Hills, which provide some of the best walking and cycling in the county. Take a walk to the ancient Drake Stone believed to be endowed with supernatural powers or seek out Gallows Edge where many a poor soul met their end at the hands of the Lord of Redesdale. Nearby Rothbury has an array of excellent shops, tea rooms, a golf course, public tennis court, cycle hire and of course the famous Cragside Hall to explore. A short drive away and there's more history to explore in the form of wonderful castles and endless beaches of the Heritage Coastline, plus a little further afield are the beautiful Kielder Water and Hadrian’s Wall.
