  • "The best cottage we have stayed in."

Everything supplied in kitchen and seating was very comfortable. Only thing to let the experience down was mattress which was way too thin and uncomfortable with no support. Could also do with better pillows.

Very clean and comfortable, and in a peaceful village, but close to amenities in Felton only a mile away. Off- road parking was a bonus for us, as was the secure back garden for our dog. We hope to return next year!

  • "Cottage was lovely, clean and comfortable."

The location was lovely, and we was able to relax and just unwind. The only thing I would comment was that the bed was a bit squeaky and just needs to be tightened up a little bit.

Thank you for your kind review. We have tightened the bed so hopefully it will now be ok for future guests. I hope it didn’t spoil your holiday. Property Owner

  • "A spacious cottage in a pretty village."

Lovely well equipped kitchen. Comfy sofa and chairs in the sitting room. Good storage in the bedrooms, pillows could do with an upgrade and under covers. Nice courtyard garden with outside seating. The bathroom really needs looking at. The shower leaks in two places and hence the wood flooring and skirting board are wet and starting to go mouldy as is the wall at the back of the toilet . The bottom of the shower doors are filthy and the shower head and the toiletry tray could do with a good clean. Thank you for the welcome pack.

Thank you for your review. We are aware of the problem in the bathroom and are in the process of replacing the shower cubicle. As the cottage has been booked almost constantly since March, it has been difficult to arrange for this work to be done. We are hoping to do the work as soon as possible. We think the damp issue may be compounded by some guests not using the extractor fan when taking a shower. However, there is no excuse for the shower head/ doors etc to be dirty and we will be speaking to our cleaning firm about this matter. There are new pillows etc already in the cupboard at the cottage and we will ensure that these are now used. We hope you still enjoyed your visit to Northumberland. Property Owner

Carinya Cottage was a joy to stay in. Extremely clean and well maintained. Tastefully decorated. The kitchen was modern and well equipped and the bedrooms were light and airy and a really good size. We felt very at home there and would certainly recommend. Thank you. Just one observation, it would have been nice to have a welcome tea/coffee/milk on arrival after our journey

We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Carinya Cottage. We will certainly consider your suggestion about tea/ coffee/ milk. We have decided to reinstate the welcome pack following your comment. Property Owner

Also haveing to move out the toaster there was breadcrumbs under it.and when we went to use the cooker it was dirty as well.

I’m sorry that there were crumbs under the toaster and that the cooker was dirty. I will certainly look into this matter to see why this was neglected. Property Owner

A folder with the handbook for every appliance..excellent and free broadband which is a plus. Excellent off road parking for two cars. The location is quiet and peaceful with easy access to places in all directions. Overall, very comfortable. A couple of little things needing looked at but by now they probably will be have been sorted . Namely the shower needed sealing at the base at each wall as small amount of water sometimes appeared on the floor and the toilet roll holder needed tightening Plenty storage space and coat hangers Highly recommend this cottage

Thank you very much for your kind review. I’m glad that you enjoyed your stay in the cottage. Thank you also for pointing out the couple of things that need attention. We will fix them straightaway. Property Owner

  • "This is our 4th visit to this cottage, it is very well maintained, and as I read previous reviews I must stress we have never had any smells of any kind."

It is always very clean with fresh linens and towels. There is everything you need in the kitchen and all utensils and crockery are of the finest quality and easy to hand. My husband is on the "severely sight impaired" register and finds the cottage easy to negotiate with only a tiny step to enter the property. We will be returning.

Thank you very much for your kind review and also for choosing to stay once again in Carinya Cottage. We look forward to hopefully seeing you both again later in the year. Property Owner

  • "Didn't start too well when we phoned owner as requested by Sykes, a couple of days prior to arrival."

My husband introduced himself to the man who answered and rather abruptly he said that he couldn't understand why we were ringing as we had the key code! The owner never made contact during our stay which we found strange. Anyway the cottage was clean, well equipped and generally in a good state. As stated by a previous reviewer we noticed an unpleasant smell which we thought may have been the drains. This was particularly noticeable when we used the dish washer and the bathroom sink. We found the shower difficult to use as it had not been properly installed with the doors hard to slide and although touching at the top there was a large gap at the bottom. Village is well positioned for getting around and has a lovely hotel/restaurant, The Northumberland Arms and the wonderful Running Fox Tea room. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and would come again but the smell definitely needs investigating.

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry you thought my husband was rather abrupt. This was not intentional- he was just surprised as no other guest has phoned him prior to their stay at the cottage and he was trying to think why Sykes Cottages would have asked you to phone. As regards the smell- we thought we had solved the problem as none of the guests just prior to your visit had advised us that there was still an issue. Now that we know it is still there we will be looking into the matter urgently. Property Owner

Huge bedrooms, great kitchen layout, absolute bonus of having a dishwasher and a washing machine too. Cleanliness was top notch aswell. Only downside was everytime we ran the dishwasher & bathroom tap there was an extremely strong 'eggy' smell and we could not find the switch for the garden lights. Overall a gem of a find cottage, lovely owners who take pride in having a lovely cosy & comfortable holiday home
