  • "Lovely clean, spacious house, from Entrance Hall, to Kitchen, to the two Lounges & to the all Bedrooms."

Kitchen well equipped for 8 people, plus washing machine & dryer (very handy for any "wet weather"). Beautiful garden including garden furniture. Location excellent as just off the A1 & all local attractions are within easy travelling distance for days out.

Thanks for the feedback Anne. We hope the wet weather didn’t spoil your visit to Northumberland too much and we will see you again. Property Owner

  • "We stayed here for a week for my dad’s 60th birthday."

We were all so impressed with this house and the space it offers for adults, children and two cocker spaniel’s, our boys said they wanted to stay forever. The beds were very comfortable in each room with lovely white linen, and plenty of towels. The host thought of everything we could need, the doggies had a little box with towels and bowls, we had the essentials left (milk, butter, bread and a bottle of Prosecco) which was a lovely touch especially after a long drive. The house it’s self was stocked with everything we needed and we cooked some lovely meals in the range cooker. We loved coming back to the house, turning on the log burner and watching a family film together. Location wise it was perfect for exploring Northumberland, we spent each day out and had a couple of lovely meals in the local pub - a 5 minute walk from the house. Lots of memories made here and we hope to visit again in the future, love the Sadowskyj family xxx

  • "3 generations of our family stayed at Ridley Lodge, along with our dogs, and it was comfortable and spacious for us all."

The whole house is very well-equipped, with some lovely extras which made our stay really homely. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished and incredibly clean. A lovely location for walkers.... 20 minutes to beaches in one direction, or 20 minutes to woodland and hills in the other. The local village is lovely, with a pub that served excellent food, and a bakery that had the best sausage rolls!! Would also recommend the fish and chip van that stops by on a Wednesday. I would highly recommend this holiday property.

Thanks for the feedback Samantha. Glad you had a great time at Ridley Lodge and hope to see you again sometime. Property Owner

Caroline and Nick have taken great care to create a clean, comfortable and well-stocked home. The layout of the house is beautiful - very spacious kitchen and living room, plenty of room for our children to play. The bedrooms are warm and comfortable. The garden is enclosed and safe for children. We hope to be able to stay again next summer.

  • "This was a spacious property ideally placed for exploring Northumberland and so an excellent base for visiting the sites."

The beds were comfortable, the house was clean and there were a decent range of facilities so great for self-catering. Some lovely views from the main bedroom and en-suite. First impressions of the house on arrival weren't good though. The entrance area was untidy and needed a good clean. The garden was sadly neglected and didn't match the website picture at all. The patio was dirty and need a good jet-wash and there were weeds everywhere. The two doormats to the patio were filthy. The patio parasol was very old and worn. Garden pots and planters were full of weeds with broken and tatty window boxes at the front. The lawn was in bad shape and clearly needed attention. It should be pointed out that a public footpath runs alongside the garden too - we note that this has been omitted. The portable rotary washing drier for the garden had no ground spike so we had to improvise and use the parasol base with two garden chairs propped up against it to stop it from moving. There was no visible hole to place the drier into. We were surprised at the number of windows in the house that were missing their handles. Some had just one handle and some were difficult to open and close. We reported a handle that snapped on use and the front door yale lock that didn't work very well. We were only given one set of keys (normally you get a spare) and fortunately we had the back door key which enabled us to get in the house. The internal window frames all needed a really good clean as they were dirty as were the windows. The Crew Room was something we wanted to use but didn't get the full benefit of as there were no instructions left for how to use the X-box and TV. Our biggest disappointment was that the bed linen, towels, soap and loo roll were not changed and replenished after our first week. We stayed for 2 weeks and expected a normal changeover day for our second week. This is the only property we have stayed where this has happened so clearly not up to standard. We were able to use towels from other rooms but the bed linen should have been changed Fri-Fri. We enjoyed Northumberland but we felt the house was a disappointment. It felt unloved and uncared for with no attention to detail and didn't live up to the webpage blurb and photos. We paid a lot of money for our 2 week stay but didn't feel we got what we paid for. This was a house in need of some TLC and needs investment and far better maintenance. Overall, this was probably once a nice family home but it didn't feel particularly welcoming or homely.

Thanks for feedback John which has made interesting reading. Our aim is for our guests to have the best possible holiday experience whilst staying at Ridley Lodge. With regards to your specific concerns - this summer has both been warm and wet which has led to prolific weed growth which we endeavour to control without disturbing our guests' privacy. This gardening work is on ongoing project. We have replaced the rotary drier with a conventional washing line - there is also the option of the pulley clothes airer and the tumble drier. We responded to your request to attend to the sticky lock issue and returned again to deal with the broken window handle. We supply our guests with a full set of keys so all doors can be opened for full access. For day trips out and about, the front door keys can be securely left in the key safe provided. The TV in the crew room is the same specification as the TV in the main room - the operating manual is stored on the main room bookcase. We appear to have had crossed wires over the bedding and towelling change over - we could have supplied this upon request when we came up to remove the waste and recycling bins on the Friday. To ensure this does not happen again, we have asked Sykes to clarify with guests whether they would prefer a changeover or not. Our aim is to respect our guests privacy. We are sorry your expectations were not met on this occasion although we feel better communication regarding issues could have led to satisfactory resolution. Property Owner

  • "We booked Ridley Lodge for a family get-together (ages of party 25 - 82, not forgetting our 2 year old black lab, who bounced with joy in the enclosed garden and loved the nearby walks)."

The property exceeded our expectations; it is cosy, very comfortable, and well equipped. Our stay was perfect in every way, from the house, to its beautiful setting and the gorgeous village a short stroll away. The owner, Caroline, pays great attention to detail to ensure guests have a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Our previous home is only 45 mins drive away, so we know the area well, and deliberately chose it, as it is convenient for so much, including accessing the coast and all the wonderful places in Northumberland. It was great once again to enjoy the fabulous food at the Running Fox cafe and Northumberland Arms pub/restaurant, both a short walk from the house; these come highly recommended! If you're looking for the most perfect place to stay in Northumberland, then Ridley Lodge is it! We'll definitely be back. Angela, Skye

It was spotlessly clean, the location was fantastic with a brilliant pub and bakery a 5 minute walk away and a 10 minute drive from some great things to see and do. Very geared up for dogs, loved the little touches left for the dogs and the cottage itself was very well stocked. The owners left bread, milk, eggs for the first day which was really helpful and it was a really comfy and cosy place to stay for the New Year break. Would love to come back.

We thought we would use the second living room more but maybe our boys were just a bit too young at 7, 4 & 16 months. But the kitchen and sitting room are fantastic with the patio doors open it was so nice and spacious even with 2 dogs as well. The welcome pack was unexpected but really useful. The bedding and towels and tea towels were such good quality. Even dog towels and bowls provided. We had brought our own though so didn’t use. This house sets a standard I wish every holiday home was this good. Everything was so clean and organised down to a bin for the dog poo!

  • "Overall excellent."

Just disappointed that we couldn't access walk behind property as it was completely overgrown & impassable. Just would of been handy with the dogs. Had a power cut on Thursday evening. I notified the owner & we both spoke to the power supplier as it was an area wide issue. All was sorted out quickly & certainly not the owners fault. Beds were extremely comfy, everything we needed in the house & garden was ideal for us & dogs.

Very pleased you had a lovely time and found the lodge comfortable. Thankfully Northern Power resolved the supply issue pretty quickly. The public footpath does get tricky to negotiate during the summer months. Although it’s not connected to the lodge we will look into how this could be managed in the future. Property Owner
