  • “The accommodation was filthy, mould all over the bathroom and shower, damp in the walls.”

Lights not working, no hot water. Decking was mouldy and green and covered in weeds. Microwave was dropping to pieces, beds were propped up with old bits of wood and oven had an inch lair of grease all over it. We tried to mop the floors but the mop had gone rotten. It was not healthy for anyone to stay there. It affected my child’s respiratory problem due to the filth and dust. It really was dirty and hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Equally Sykes cottages is a joke. I complained to them as we left three days early due to the state of the property and sent photos. They said they couldn’t do anything and have tried to contact the owner but because they had not replied they would close the case. Sykes Cottages never attempted to contact myself and inform me what was happening and totally washed their hands of us. Our holiday was ruined and was the first one since lockdown, costing us £900 for the week. My young children were devastated as they had looked forward to it for months. It’s disgusting how we were treated by Sykes and even though the landlord will not answer their calls and despite all the photo evidence of the state of the place, Sykes suggest they will not go and view the property but will continue to charge people for it’s use by using this property in the future. They have no customer interested at all. My advice is STAY AWAY FROM SYKES, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROPERTY and look elsewhere…

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
