They had installed a Xmas tree and left a great welcome pack that exceeded expectations. The house is only 2 minutes walk from a good pub and Milan Italian restaurant where we enjoyed a lovely meal served by very friendly and attentive staff on Xmas Eve. The only slight downside was that Rachael and Neil had been having problems getting a fault with their boiler repaired and the water could only be heated by the log burner. This just meant that the water for the showers wasn't just as hot as it might have been but was still perfectly acceptable and didn't detract in any way from our enjoyment of the house itself. They also supplied us with extra logs so we could keep the log fire going and Rachael has since told me that the plumber was going in with the required part yesterday so there should be no recurrence of the problem. All in all an excellent experience that we're very likely to repeat.

Wooler is a delightful, historic market town on the banks of the River Till, one of the tributaries of the Tweed, nestling in the foothills of the Cheviots which form part of the Pennine Way. Known locally as 'The Gateway to The Cheviots', Wooler has a selection of hotels and eating places and offers a magnificent location for exploring the whole of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Wooler is just a short drive away from the historic town of Alnwick with its famous Castle and Gardens, and the well preserved Garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
