  • "A well appointed small cottage, situated centrally in Northumberland."

The national park and coast being only short drives away. The village The cottage is in is quiet, with a cracking deli type shop across the road. Even better that I could take my 4 dogs too. All types of fishing nearby. This is my second stay at the forge, I would certainly stay again.

Kitchen has everything you'd need including tea and coffee. Nice welcome pack on arrival. Village shop is opposite but closes at 2.30pm each day. The Shoulder of Mutton pub is a few yards away, does good food and has a nice menu. Friendly and helpful host. Great location for exploring the area, just a few miles from the A1 turning.

The cottage was very clean and modern well kept the busy road was a issue with the windows closed you didn't hear the traffic but very noisy when sitting in the small garden and I was worried about my dogs safety when letting them out of the car back into the cottage garden we had a issue where the bathroom door came off top hinge on day we were leaving let the owner know by text who sent a curt reply making us feel we were accused of damaging the door it just came off and we noticed top screws were missing he replied fed up of checking property after each visit may as well sell up and that doors don't just fall off This soured an enjoyable stay and after this would not stay here again the garden is too small for 3 dogs no privacy also people living in village park outside property and walk past all the time so kept curtains shut the road much busier then I was expecting so much as we loved our stay would not book this property again

Thank you for your feedback. I found the screw heads from the door - they were sheared through, with the rest of the screws embedded in the door. It takes some real force to shear screws completely through.. Property Owner

  • "Clean comfort ,unfortunately the washing machine didn’t work had to find a laundrette something you don’t want to do on holiday ,informed owner but was not fixed during our stay."

There was no mention of a main road through village you where in which was very noise up until about 6 pm then started again about 7 am because the cottage was on this main road it was a issue for us we would never had booked a busy spot to stay ,it was good links to everywhere and beautiful inside we just felt you couldn’t sit outside to relax because it was to noisy, and people parked in front of the gate and your car making difficult to get car out .

Hi, I'm sorry that the washing machine wasn't working. The cold water feed to the machine had been turned off at some point in between us testing the washing machine on a short cycle during the changeover and your report of the problem on the subsequent Monday. However, I'm kind of okay with the fact that the washing machine wasn't working, given that you did say that you wanted to wash dog vomit off a dog blanket and I'm not sure that our other guests would want the washing machine used for that purpose. It's easy enough to find information on the internet for the property, and Sykes' listing has a lovely map function that shows that the property is right next to the A697, and that map is right there when any customer makes their booking. Unfortunately I can't do anything about how inconsiderate others are with their parking when they use the lovely village shop opposite; it's one of the prices we pay for having a property in a village with a shop and a pub...other people also use the shop and the pub because those facilities just have this habit of attracting people to come and use them to buy provisions or a refreshing beverage and a meal, and unfortunately people sometimes don't look or think before they park up. Anyhow, when we all have flying cars there should be less noise on the roads...but they'll still have to park somewhere, so we'll never be rid of that problem. Property Owner

The cottage was perfect although the garden could do with a bit of a tidy as it wasn’t that appealing to sit in, it was good to have a local well stocked shop but this did cause mayhem with traffic & parking, making it noisy, we had to ask several times for vehicles to move so we could get in and out of the drive to the cottage

Lovely welcome pack. We only had one issue and that was the shower. Very mouldy in places, even on the hygiene board. The shower itself is a just warm trickle. The low pressure light on the unit is always on, however I’m not sure if this is something that can be addressed. The only other thing is I would re-iterate what others have said that instructions for the hob and dishwasher would have helped. We managed the hob but could only get the dishwasher to rinse. Overall very positive though

  • "The Forge is beautifully converted and comfy but very noisy."

If you are inside with all the windows closed it's fine but with last weeks weather outside and with windows open it is very noisy due to the traffic. It is ideally located for exploring Northumbria. We didn't bring our dogs but we're glad we didn't. The garden as such is far too small for 4 dogs..However our main gripe was the lack of any information pack on eg local dog walks, buses the fish and chip van coming on Friday things to see in the area where the pub is ( we didn't go in that direction for 4 days) and better info on the appliances to name a few. Yes there is the Internet but written information packs are worth their weight in gold especially local dog walks as the garden is so small. Also due to the hot weather a fan would have been useful. We were also amazed that the owners didn't get in touch at all. The welcome gifts were lovely but as we don't drink coffee or wine the information pack would have been of more use!!!! The fish and chips from the Flying Friar were excellent though. Having said that we had a great holiday saw loads and landed on Inner Farne which was amazing.

Very clean and not at all cluttered (as some places can be) Lovely welcome gift which was a lovely touch We don’t do much cooking as after all it’s a break but good to know that on Thursdays a pizza van parked outside pm and Fridays a fish and chip van. We didn’t have pizza but the fish and chips were delicious. Would definitely stay again ( May even try owners other holiday let “Rose Cottage”)

  • "Little that be done about it, but the property is far from private."

.Coaches parked on the front at 7.45, locals stopping for the paper/food shop opposite, dog walkers and a fish and chip van mean you kept the curtains drawn. Some sort of shed at the rear for storing cleaning equipment would be our thought and at least some basic instructions on operating electrical equipment and a pamphlet on local recommendations for the nearest/best pub restaurant, petrol station, chemists etc etc. We spent time understanding the oven/hob and the owners helped by telephone when we gave up (an induction hob that we had never used before) That all said it was a pleasure to stay here and a base in Longhorsley meant you covered the county comfortably. A pleasant, well equipped and convenient cottage.

About the location

FELTON

Alnwick 10 miles.

The delightful village of Felton is set in rural Northumberland, between Morpeth to the south and Alnwick to the north. The village has a shop with a post office, coffee shop, pub and restaurant, and is just 10 miles from Alnwick, with its Castle and now famous Garden, which features Europe's largest cascading water feature, an enormous tree house, a rose garden and an ornamental walled garden. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the "Harry Potter" films! Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
