“Good location, easy access to public transport for travelling into Newcastle upon Tyne.”
“The general standard was very nice however the main bathroom was really uncomfortably warm and the toilet seat in the smaller bathroom was broken.”
Also there was no hand soap in the bathrooms. Sometimes you can expect holiday cottages to be a little bare but for £300 a night I think hand soap isn't too much to ask. Also the owner was quite abrupt with me when I mentioned this.
“As we had my mother who is 88 with us it was not possible for her to sit on the dining stools, However it was useful to have the extra bathroom.”
Ideally a nest of small tables would be useful to put drinks on when sitting in the lounge area. The property was ideally located as it was only 30mins away for visiting Durham, Beamish Museum, Whitley Bay, Newcastle etc. I certainly would recommend the property to friends or family who wish for a base to visit Northumberland.
“Great holiday had by my family in this accommodation.”
Very comfortable contemporary furnished well equipped in a great location for exploring Northumberland and the Newcastle area. Will definitely consider a return visit.
“Very peaceful in a very quiet village location.”
Owners very friendly and helpful had a very pleasant time would visit again
“A lovely cottage in a beautiful location.”
The Haven was spotlessly clean and comfortable. It is in an ideal location close to Newcastle, Alnwick Rothbury and some beautiful countryside. You need to be aware however, that hand towels, tea towels and toilet roll are not supplied
“We do not feel we can in all good conscience recommend Sykes Cottages to friends etc.”
, although the administration was first rate the standards at the cottage was poor. The website advertising the cottage was misleading which caused us problems and although the actual cottage interior design was to a high standard, the cleanliness and hospitality let it down.
“Liked the location for getting around the north east, would recommend to anyone.”

The parish of Horsley is situated in one of the most scenic parts of east Tynedale, and forms part of a World Heritage Site.
The Hadrian’s Wall long distance path is situated one mile north of the village of Horsley and is connected by existing rights of way, one of which travels through Horsley Wood, a woodland dating to the medieval period.
Horsley village is steeped in history, and many of the buildings have strong architectural features and are of great historical significance, while Horsley is close to the village of Wylam, the birthplace of George Stephenson, one of the early pioneers of the railway industry.
Along the road is Heddon-on-the-Wall which sits on the line of the old Hadrian’s Wall, still visible at the edge of the village, and the lovely town of Corbridge, which has history dating back to Roman times, is also nearby.
Just a little further on is the Tyne Valley town of Hexham with its abbey, old gaol and old town centre.
