  • "Lovely week of warm sunny weather, sat in the garden enjoying a pot of coffee each morning, and the homemade blueberry muffins until they ran out!"

The cottage is comfortable and very clean with everything you need. We thoroughly enjoyed playing golf at Matfen Hall, Slaley and Warkworth and recommend Matfen Hall if you want a treat - especially Afternoon Tea in the Orangery, or sitting on the balcony of Keepers Lodge enjoying lunch and watching other golfers (thankfully we are not the only ones to slice the ball!!). Our thanks to David and Debbie for the welcome gifts and flowers which were much appreciated.

  • "Such a lovely property very well kitted out."

Situated in a very quiet hamlet with stunning views. The welcome gifts on arrival a nice touch. A good base to visit several sites in Northumberland but just as nice to relax in the cottage, eating in the conservatory, or taking a stroll around admiring the view. the near town of Corbridge had a fantastic butchers and cake shop, the pastries were amazing. Overall a great place to stay.

  • "The Cottage is very well appointed and spotless."

We appreciated the milk, muffins and bubbles however, other provisions seemed to be leftovers from previous guests and traveling from the other side of the world New Zealand, we didn't expect to have to bring dishwashing liquid. Perhaps small containers of such items would benefit guests and owners alike. As for Sykes list of rules, we came on holiday not a'Boot Camp'

  • "We absolutely loved our stay."

It was such a homely and comfortable cottage with beautiful views of the countryside. The pictures do not do it justice and it was certainly larger than expected. We had plenty of trips out to Belsay Hall, The Sill at Hadrians Wall, Druridge Bay and into Newcastle. Our only suggestion would be for blackout blinds in the loft room and bedroom as my daughter struggled to settle in the evening and the sun woke us around 4am. 9

Homely and comfortable inside with a well equipped kitchen, stunning lounge with a log burner and lovely bedrooms with comfortable beds outside is a besutiful garden with stunning views. Very welcome is the carton of milk bottle of fizz and the delicious blueberry muffins, This cottage is a real gem. The car port is a little small but there is parking opposite the cottage.

Centrally placed in Northumberland so you can reach both coast and Hadrians wall areas. North is Wallington and Cragside two NT properties not to be missed. South is Durham City and Beamish open air museum etc. Roads are quiet. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. Has an unusual boiler fed by wooden pellets. Welcome pack included muffins and Cava.

  • "The Cottage provides fully what is described in the details, but has upside too in the cosy, comfortable atmosphere created because of the careful attention paid by the owners."

From Ingoe we thoroughly enjoyed the many places in rural Northumberland that make staying just 7 days too short a time, so we'll return here soon (and that has nothing to do with the gifts awaiting our arrival. Many thanks).

Beautiful decor and very comfortable beds with lovely bed linen. Everywhere was spotlessly clean too. This property was a real find and a perfect base to explore Northumberland with many National Trust and English Heritage properties within an easy drive and the spectacular Hadrian’s Wall virtually on your doorstep. Very highly recommended property.

  • "Lovely property once we got through the door."

However we need a horizontal property and we would not have booked if we had known about the rough steps and sloping path from the road. That was very difficult for Mrs M. Inside was comfortable and well equipped but we could not get BBC 1 & 2 on the TV, so we had to use iplayer on the laptop to watch Strictly Come Dancing. Also could not get a wide-angle spray from the shower head. Bed and seating were very comfortable and it was easy to keep the place warm. When the sun came out it was very pleasant in the conservatory. Over all we enjoyed our stay

It was well equipped, especially as there were just two of us staying. We found it clean, comfortable & the welcome supplies were very appreciated. The comprehensive guidance notes were also very useful. I took my own hairdryer but needn't have as there was one in a bedroom drawer. The words I spoke upon arriving at the cottage, my husband was equally as delighted. A pretty, well equipped cottage in delightful scenic countryside - it was idyllic. The only downside was that as we were attending a wedding over the weekend, we didn’t get as much time to relax with a glass of wine in the conservatory whilst admiring the beautiful wildflower garden, and taking in the scents of the lilac and honeysuckle.

It’s perfectly located for visits to Corbridge, Hexham, Newcastle and a little further afield for Alnwick, Craster and Bamburgh. David, the owner was only a phone call away and popped by to help with a query, he couldn’t have been more helpful. The thoughtful welcome gifts were much appreciated. It is immaculate in every way and spotlessly clean. The decoration and furniture is modern and tasteful and the kitchen equipped with everything you could possibly need. We’ve just visited so the weather was chilly but the wood fuelled stove in the kitchen feeds the central heating and the house was toasty warm and if you need any extra warmth there is a wood burner in the lounge which adds to the romance of a winter stay. There’s also a fabulous king size bed, which was just bliss! The owners left us several goodies which was a truly lovely touch and very much appreciated. We hope to return in the not too distant future and wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend this oasis of calm for anyone looking to unwind.

The location may be considered a little remote with no shop or pub in the immediate vicinity but that’s exactly why we chose it! The views and scenery were breathtaking and National Trust properties featured within short car distances. We did not meet the owners but they responded quickly to a question we had and a nice welcome pack was left. We have done several Sykes cottages and this rates as one of the best! The price was excellent value.

Garden a bit overgrown and hedges blocking view. Access a little bit of a problem as parking not right outside the cottage. There is a really nice deli in Matfen but the pub there does not do food. Corbridge is nearest for shopping and meals out. Sorry this sounds a bit negative, it is a lovely house we really enjoyed our stay but I feel that these are things that are useful to know beforehand.
