We have already let the owner know how impressed we are with the cottage especially how clean it is
We like to leave cottages as we find them but do find a 9am departure an impossible task so hence we leave the night before
We can’t fault this cottage and the quality of service provided

"Stayed at Ford Street with friends as we were taking my wife's ashes back to Durham, Other than it being a sad occasion we all enjoyed our stay at Ford Street and thought the property was superb we would give it 5 star plus if there was a downstairs loo, very well appointed and the attention to detail was second to none, very tastefully decorated and a lovely welcome pack provided, my friends had never been to the county and were very surprised at what it has to offer, Lanchester and this property are a great base to explore the delights of the North East, if you visit County Durham (and you should!"
) this is the place to stay.

"A stunning property, so well loved by the owners who have gone to immense trouble to furnish to the highest degree."
The garden is just so relaxing. Nothing too much trouble. Welcome pack was far above the usual milk and bread. Included wine, beers, coffee, tea, biscuits, milk, and a treat jar for my dogs. Everything thought of and loads of local walking and OS maps plus visitor information for the area. Lots of lovely walks in the area, close to Stanley and Consett if you need supermarkets etc and Durham City centre just so historical and a lovely day out. You Must book Sunday roast lunch at the Kings Head. Sat nav however took us to Burnhope so stay on the A691 straight to Lanchester. Will certainly visit again

"This cottage was so lovely and had everything you could want."
We loved the decor and the wood burner was so cosy in the evenings. Helen was fantastic and contacted us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. There was a really thoughtful gift basket and fresh flowers as well. Lanchester a lovely little town and we discovered the Lanchester valley walks just a few minutes away. It was perfect and we would definitely book again.

"This property far exceeded our expectations."
Helen, the owner, has furnished the house with exceptional taste. The attention to detail is incredible which made our stay even more enjoyable. Other reviewers have described the property and it didn’t disappoint. A welcome box of treats had been left for us, and our dogs, which was a lovely thought.
We were surprised that Helen visited to ensure we had settled in as she was concerned that she was unable to contact us on the telephone. It was nice that a person should care so much about their clients and as a regular visitor to Lanchester we will certainly consider making future bookings.

"Perfect location in a beautiful village."
The house is comfortable, beautifully furnished and very well equipped to a very high standard. The house was family-friendly with lots of space for us (2 adults and 2 kids). I'd definitely recommend this home to others and hope to stay here again. The local shop, pharmacy, butchers, bakers and restaurants are within 5 min. walk so we enjoyed dinner and wine out and could walk back. Children's local playground around the corner, perfect for keeping kids entertained between trips out. We enjoyed family days out in the area and visited relatives nearby. Look forward to coming to stay again.

"Had a fabulous stay here, so clean and comfortable."
Helen had provided so many little extras, the welcome basket was so lovely (even treats for our dog). After a day out exploring it was so nice to come back to such a comfortable cosy house. It doesn’t in any way feel like a holiday cottage with all the lovely furnishings and the appliances are great. The weather was just perfect so we were able to sit out in the back yard, the only thing missing was a small patch of grass for Alfie to have a wee on (he does like a bit of green stuff). But there is grass out the front of the house where he could go. The neighbours and locals were all so friendly and made us feel very welcome. The village has just about every type of cuisine to suit all tastes and I think we tried almost all of them, the Italian I think being the favourite

"Very well equiped and comftable cottage."
located a few minutes walk from the town which although small has several restaurants and pubs.
A lovely cottage with small outside area both back and front with some nice walks especially the old railway line, now a popular walking and cycling trail starts about 100 yards fron the back gate
The food and atmosphere at the pub Crinnions is exceptional despite it's strange name! I would also recommend the Greek Yannis. A small family run place.

"The cottage is one of the best in which we have stayed."
It was spotlessly clean; spacious, with a very high standard of furnishings, and kitchen equipment. Everything had been thought of; including a delicious 'welcome basket'. (Wine, coffee, cake, etc). The bathroom is lovely, with a super 'rain shower'. Each room is beautiful, with lovely paintings and craft work.
The attractive small gardens were excellent 'suntraps' for coffee and cake.
Lanchester is an attractive large village with many shops catering for everyday requirements. It also has an excellent bus service to Durham or Consett: to avoid the necessity of driving. The situation is ideal for Hadrian's wall, and moorland/river walks from Wolsingham. The disused railway provides easy walking or cycling in both directions.
There are several pubs and restaurants, which we reluctantly did not visit due to 'social distancing': but made use of the Fish/( Vegetarian options) and Chip shop on one occasion.
The location of the 'cottage' is very peaceful and definitely to be recommended.
Helen (the owner) thoughtfully texted to inquire if we had any other requirements.
Thank you to Helen and Peter.

"This was a last minute booking due to Covid-19 as we had been looking for a Cottage/Caravan nearer the Durham coast."
My wife and I used this magnificent house as a base to catch up with my wife's County Durham family. The terraced house is very well decorated, and has beautiful furniture, and a well fitted kitchen. The backyard is inspirational in its choice of plants, and will mean us visiting our local garden centre to try and recreate the feel. My son was staying with us, and the three of us did not manage to overwhelm the Wifi. The A68, a few miles to the west makes it ideal for getting to Hadrian's Wall and into Northumberland. Be careful when driving through Consett though as you can get lost if you miss a sign on the ring road, and beware of the cyclists if you are taking the pleasant walk along the old railway line towards either Consett or Durham. Lanchester itself is a beautiful village, with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, the neighbours are very friendly, and Sainsbury is 10 minutes away on the outskirts of Durham. A good place to return to.
P.S. Should the GOT Poster really be Uhtred of Bebbanburg?.

"4 Ford Cottage is a very relaxing holiday home."
Beautiful decor, furniture & artifacts. Very comfortable all round. Great front garden for a sunny breakfast & beautiful back garden for tea. Lots of real plants add that warm homely feeling. Lovely powerful shower & spa bath to unwind after long walks and a great wood burner to be cosy in the lounge. Lanchester is a good location with walk/cycle lane (and woods) going from Lanchester out to Consett one way & Durham the other. Excellent various places to eat & drink in Lanchester. We enjoyed the Kings Head for distancing, during Covid restrictions, with room for one door IN and another for OUT, plus good space inside. Coast only approx 40mins away to enjoy the Sand & Sea.
