  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

The cottage was very well equipped and the added bonus of the ping pong table in the barn next door was brilliant. It kept the boys entertained for hours.

  • "Great house for a family Christmas together."

Clean, comfortable and lots of room. Stan our dog also had a fantastic time. The only small problem we found was that the fridge (and freezer) was too small, esp for a family Christmas. But overall a superb house in wonderful grounds.

Just spent a few nights away but we we could have stayed longer! Vicky is a superb host! The chocolate cake, prosecco, milk, coffee, tea, and fresh eggs were a lovely gesture. Would love to come back in the summer.

It was clean, comfortable and had everything you could wish for. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the welcome treats were a lovely touch. It is well positioned for Bamborough, Berwick and Alnwick. We would recommend.

There is plenty to do on site with the kids really enjoying the play area and fishing in the lake. There is lots to explore both locally and within a 30 minute drive. Couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing week away! We would definitely recommend for anybody wanting to explore Northumberland.

The house is immaculate, really comfortable and well equipped in a great location. There is good outside seating area , in a cute garden with a stream running along right beside. It is so peaceful with only the sound of the birds in the trees. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area, and would recommend it as a great place to stay.

  • "We had such a lovely stay, the old workshop felt spacious but cosy/homely at the same time."

It was the perfect place for a Christmas family get together complete with lots of festive touches which were very much appreciated. We had trouble starting the car when leaving and the owner was really lovely and helpful and let us stay a bit longer, the cleaner then helped us get the car going again - a really memorable holiday, thank you, would highly recommend the old workshop.

Hi, thank you for your review. We really appreciate your feedback, we have ordered a new mattress for the main bedroom. We are so sorry if this in anyway put a dampener on you stay. It’s so useful as an owner to get this feedback so we can continue to improve the cottage. Thank you and we apologies, if we had have know we could have possibly rectified this during your stay. • "The old Workshop is beautifully presented, well equipped and is situated in a lovely setting."

It is in a location from which we could access lovely beaches and places. The only niggle we’re the king size and single mattresses which did not suit our (older) backs, but that is a personal thing and we appreciate that. We loved our stay.

Totally tucked out of the way for a rural feel with no light pollution and guaranteed good nights sleep. Would definitely return and loved our all too short stay.

  • "From the very start great communication with the owners, I needed to drop our luggage off an hour earlier than check in to enable us to have an empty boot to collect a mobility scooter we’d hired for the week."

No problem at all. The cottage went above our expectations, beautiful presented, the welcome pack of essentials and a wonderful home made cake, the quality and attention to detail in furnishings and decor. Really one of the best holiday homes we’ve stayed in with an abundance of days out on your doorstep. We would highly recommend and had a wonderful time.

  • "The cottage was fantastic."

Our only problem was with the directions given by Sykes Cottages which incorrectly tell you to follow the satnav. If you do, the postcode takes you to an adjoining driveway and gatehouse, to the confusion of the owner there. We then tried another driveway signposted Middleton Estate but found no signage for the Old Workshop so we had to ring the owner who told us we were in the correct place. Sykes Cottages need to amend the directions to tell you to follow the driveway signposted Middleton Estate and at the end turn left where it it signposted Sawmill Cottages (of which the Old Workshop is one).

  • "This property was superb, probably the best we’ve stayed in over the years."

Well appointed, modern yet cosy with fantastic attention to detail. Excellent communication from owners both prior to & on arrival with the cake & fizz a lovely touch. The kitchen in particular has excellent facilities, so much so we were able to do a full Easter dinner. Kids loved outdoor space & layout of cottage allowed both family time & some separation when required. Only very minor things we’d change would be wooden spoons being a welcome addition to kitchen & also a non plastic gravy jug. Dishwasher needs fixing or replacing as the constant washing up was a bit of a bind. It would be churlish to focus on this though after such a great week in outstanding surroundings. Looking to book for next year & we’ll definitely be back.
